Great arena. Will be SORELY missed! I've been to four Sabres games there in my life and won't forget any one of them! The acoustics in that building, you will NEVER hear again!

What a rink. I dont care what anybody says, the old buildings had so much character. Each was more unique than the last.

Notice Patty LaFontaine in tears as he watched the banners neing lowered. That man was loved here more than any Sabre that had ever worn the jersey.

I'm not a sabers fan, but this chokes me up. Because I love the game of hockey, and it's always sad to see and old friend go. The Aud brought many great moments for families of Western NY and Southern Ontario for many years. When Nassau Coliseum goes away

I never had a chance to see a game at the Aud (only seen hockey games at the new arena, but a couple baseball games at the rockpile), but still great to see the banners in the new arena. I did grab one of the farewell newspapers, tis touching.

Brings a tear to your eye doesn't it, I wish they took better care of the Aud and make it into a museum like what Sabresrock said. I'll deeply miss the place where I 1st watched my Buffalo Sabres play hockey I'm 17 now but the Aud will be part of my Hockey life forever.

Look at the way LaFontaine looks up at the banners, taking it all in. You could tell that he cared IMMENSELY-not just about the team's success, but its history and its city as well. He was fully bought-in. Shame about the injuries that took him out of the game. And shame that his short time as President of Hockey Ops for the Sabres was handled as poorly as it was, as he brought that same passion that he had there in '96.

@Jiltedin2007 In the 79-80 season, the teams in the Adams Division were the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
And the reason the Sabres were listed as the 1980 Wales Conference Champions was because they had the best record in the conference. From 1971 to 1982, the two teams in the Stanley Cup Finals could be in the same conference (as was the case in 77, 78, and 80).

And the Flyers and Islanders were in the Campbell Conference, Patrick Division, in 1979-80.

How were the Sabres the 1980 Wales Conference Champions when it was the Islanders who played the Flyers for the Stanley Cup on that memorable year?
The Sabres played in the Adams Division with Boston, and I don't know who else back in 1980. Were the Hartford Whalers, or the Quebec Nordiques also there in the Adams Division back in 1980?
It was in the 1979-80 Season, when four WHA Teams joined the NHL.

I like HSBC better then the Aud due to there isnt a bad seat in the HSBC arena. Nothing like bending over to view the ice in the 300 upper level at the Aud lol. But still, very sad to see, and since I live near Buffalo, watching the Aud getting torn down was very heart breaking. Alot of memories in there, alot of memories...

  • @Jiltedin2007

@Tubewings Were the Flyers not in your Conference? And in 1980, not only did the two Stanley Cup Finalist Teams share a Conference, but they also shared a Division as well considering that the Flyers(With the NHL's Best Record of 116 Points) was a good 25 points better than the 2nd Place Islanders in the Patrick Division.
Did the Sabres not share the Conference with the Flyers and Islanders? If not, were you better than Montreal that year?

I was fortunate enough to visit The Aud twice before it closed its doors in April 1996. The first time was on March 17, 1994 (exactly one year before my grandfather died at age 91) to see the Sabres play the New Jersey Devils. The second time was in early February 1995 to see a college basketball doubleheader that featured nearby Canisius College. Boy oh boy, the Metro rail sure was convenient for fans going to The Aud -- it dropped you off right at the entrance on Main Street.

@Tubewings Oh I see. Then teams like Montreal were in your division. Correct? Back then, Montreal shared their Division with Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, Vacouver and Colorado(Before they were the New Jersey Devils). Were you in that same Conference with Montreal?

    • @robertyoung3992
      @robertyoung3992 3 роки тому

      @@robertyoung3992
Ah no. Living in Los Angeles(Following the Kings) I can tell you first hand. From the 1974-75 Season to the 1980-81 Season, the Montreal Canadiens shared the Norris Division with the Kings, Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Washington.
In the 1981-82 Season is when Montreal shared the Adams Division with Buffalo, along with Boston, and 2 New WHA Teams in Hartford and Quebec.
The Kings always came second to Montreal in the Division. The closest the Kings ever came to passing Montreal and winning the division was their last season together(1980-81) when the Kings finished 4 Points off the Division.
