1:13 The idea of Tri-Tachyon bribing shipworks to make their vessels vulnerable to a very specific design only they have is exactly something they would do.
The name of the game for this patch has really been "Synergy". So many weapons now complement each other better; so many ship builds come together much more cleanly and with fewer s-mods and weird officer builds being needed. And of course s-mod bonuses and penalties changing the way we value certain hull modifications brings a new layer to ship design.
Speaking of mixes... With recent addition of Pilum catapult I've been toying with the ideas of infinite missile spam... And midline and low tech mix works hilariously for that. Don't get me wrong, this is beyond sub-optimal. But seeing a pegasus spitting infinite waves of 24 pilums with each volley... On top of Pilums thrown by Conquest, and by XIV Legion, and by Champions... A thing of beauty - it is absolutely stupid and I love it - enemy AI gets kind of silly, trying to comprehend the literal rain of slow missiles creeping towards it. Also - good to finally see Eagles get some love. I'm personally running very much standard build, with hypervelocity drivers, mauler, grav beams and ion beam. Just giving them salamanders. This is basically anti-shield/EMP build. It stays at good range, it doesn't kill quickly, but it tends to outlast and chip away any other cruiser, and even bigger targets. Salamanders don't do much actual damage, but I noticed plenty of ships tend to turn around to deal with them - and this gives Eagle some time to vent, if it needs.
Onslaught: designed eons ago, before shields, modern energy weapons, strike craft. sees super advanced ai ship piloted by the smartest ai core ever created, gives it a one-sided beatdown, refuses to elaborate further. Odyssey: The true broadside battlecruiser, beats the shit out of the turbovirgin Conquest. The Capital Grade Troll.
@RedStar441 I was told that Shield Shunts and specialising your broadsides for different tasks would help. Being someone that has not bought Starsector yet, I'll have to take their words on that.
Heavy MGs with Elite PD are a good substitute for Arbalests on the Eagles. They're 650 su base range compared to 700 su and are one of the strongest and most efficient kinetics. Big fan of the Arbalest too. Against weak targets it deals good damage to the armor and the higher base damage cause a higher shield burst compared to the continuous Railguns.
Your videos have been a big help in bettering both my ship design and my fleet comp! I hate to ask for specific things for videos, but could you perhaps do on about fleet progression? Essentially on what ships to prioritize when filling out your fleet for the early, middle, and late game? (Also wouldn't the shadow government just be Tri-Tachyon? I'm really liking Eagles this version, and they follow engage and defend position orders effectively. But with escort orders they still frequently fail to face the closest ship to them, wasting their main kinetic damage potential. I stopped using escort orders on them a long time ago after seeing them get chewed on from the side while they pretend it's not happening.

Its 10% reduced energy damage, which is the same effect as going from 70% cr to 100% cr. Its still cost effective if you're mostly up against energy weapons
well, being so far bellow fleet ship limit triple ordo could be a matter of cycling ships to kill the first wave VS late wave, so you can prevent too many malfunction and keep up the firepower, of course this is considerably more expensive, but you will still get an insane amount of supplies from triple ordo anyways

I use Heavy auto cannons but maybe I am just a noob. Sometimes I put them on enforcers to generate a wall of lead. But I use them on conquest with with other that have 900 base range. Current conquest build I have in current playthgough is: 2x large pillums, 2x med pillums, 2x mjolnir, 2 devestaror, 4x HAC. Mod are: ATG(S) AWM(S), ITU, HS, BR, SS with 50 point cap and 45 vent. First build used Hespatus instead of mjolnir, was cool for the dakka but the energy dmg works better. My eagles provide the PD power with with their Thunder wins to preject power further away instead of missiles. Converted hanger with Thunder was cheaper than almost all missile combo with reloaders, Salamanders is only missile I would put on eagles honestly. But I ratter have more cap/vents instead.
Leave the medium ballistic slots empty and go for gauss cannons on one side and devastator on the other + hurricane mirv instead. It's insane from my experience and beats mjolnir in every engagement
@@mig-29fulcrum15 but then that stresses the cap/vents out since I have to remove points from them to add weapons making it's tank weaker. PD defense is what the support eagles are for. Right now this conquest is face tanking hegemony onslaughts and winning the flux war everytime.
One interesting thing you can try on Eagle in addition to already mentioned elite PD is a Ballistic rangefinder + 3 Light Double ACs. You will get the same 700 base range, and while it seems to be 6 OP less efficient, you are in fact gaining some because it is a much "colder" weapon setup with more effective anti-shield DPS.
BBE has done a few videos about the Odyssey. The AI really needs the right weapons to shine with it " and putting a high level officer in it makes the difference." Timid or Cautious officers want LONG range " 800 - 1000+ range " weapons, but a Timid officer will gladly unload missiles at the right times instead of dud firing them. Just keep trying it out and see what you like :D
I wonder, does aggressive/reckless AI modify the chance of them using active venting? I really like hardened coils as a built-in mod, but that's stupid that they don't make use of it...
how do i get the alien weapons that you have on your odessy never seen medium oder large - never found them any alien torpedos or missel weapons i got some small once from the hidden stash where you been send on the main mission but nothing in compare to your loadout :(
You will find them if you explore the blue giants in your sector. There are special enemies that will show up orbiting really close to them, but only in 2 systems per save file. They don't respawn, so you only get to defeat them once, but they drop a lot of special loot like the weapons you see here.
