Short movie on suicide prevention-‘आशा'/ 'Hope'
A collective need for suicide prevention efforts in Nepal:
Nepal faces one very pressing public health issue: the rising suicide rates. Several factors contribute to this alarming trend, which include economic hardships arising from poverty, unemployment, social isolation from stigma, limited access to mental health services, especially in rural areas, domestic violence, and gender inequality, among others. A multi-prong approach is essential to preventing suicide. They include addressing social determinants such as inequity and poverty, expanding access to mental health services, building crisis hotlines, and continuous mental health awareness and education efforts.
The Nepal Institute of Mental Health (NIOMH) has teamed up with Movie Mahal Production and Haami-the change maker team to present this short film 'आशा'/ 'Hope' on Suicide Prevention. Spread the word to raise awareness about suicide and prevention.
