Yeah, honestly, some dumbass dark secret part of me thinks Spoony (very secretly) enjoys FF8 a little. And pretty much the same thing that happened with him in FF 7 happened to me with FF 6.

I don't see what's so difficult to figure out. Re-doing the later Final Fantasy games in HD isn't all that difficult, because they were made out of far more proven technologies while Final Fantasy VII may as well have been made out of dried leaves and twigs. I'm playing through it for the first time on the Vita right now and... Here's the thing. Yes, it was incredibly impressive for the time, but the technology simply wasn't there. In order to do it in HD, unless you want a simple texture overhaul, they would have to rebuild massive swaths of it from the ground up.
The first question I asked when the Play Station 3 came out was not "Will Final Fantasy 7 be on it?" it was "Will it be compatible with the previous generation Play Station games like the PS2 was?" Still, I got one big fat "No" as the response.
I pre ordered Final Fantasy 13 Lightning Returns so I could get the Cloud costume, and it was a huge disappointment, there was so much it could have done and it didn't do it. it felt like wasted potential.
The truth is they don't know how to make a FF7 Remake, because the game has 3 art styles simultaneously and you have to pick one, and remake the game from scratch. Square has said that making a FF7 remake doesn't seem reasonable time or budget wise. Which is dumb
what is he talking about the thing with " everyone who pay ff7 from steam, has it as a ps version"?? i dont have a ps, so i would like to play it on pc. who would buy it if he or she has it on ps? doesnt make sense for me
I'm not sure I can tell if Spoony really wants to understand why an FF VII remake wouldn't work. FFVII wasn't make like FF10 was. IT didn't use polygons. FFVII was built on what amounts to a graphical trick that was popular during the Playstation era. Render most of the content on powerful computers, compress it, and then have the playstation display the results. It's really the same thought process behind Donkey Kong Country and Killer Instinct. The problem is, going back, the content that those supercomputers were exporting don't really look that good. They were simply never made for HD. They aren't 16x9. They aren' detailed enough to be HD and they aren't easily changed. So, to go back and remake all that content is basically creating n entirely new game. A brand new, old looking game. If they were going to spend that much time and effort on it, they would have to charge full price for it. If they charged people full price for it, people would expect a lot more from it than just the explanation that "it took a ton of work to remake a game that doesn't really look any better than it used to". THusly, they would have to remake all the content to modern standards, which would start creeping into the gameplay. At this point, they're basically making an entirely new final fanatasy game that just has the same story as FFVII. That's totally fine, but a VAST majority of their audience would cry that it wasn't the game they remembered and still want the impossible to make HD remake anyhow. So, long story short, you will NEVER see FFVII again.
make it cartoonish? I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Unless you mean painting in backgrounds like an old PC adventure game? (or like the previous FF games did with pixels?) Yes they could do that, but people would go nuts. If they made a sequel to FFVII with painted backgrounds people would see it as a cheap cash in, not the remake they want.
Ocarina of time wasn't made the same way FFVII was made. FFVII uses ray tracing. Ocarina of Time uses polygons. It's EASY to put out a remastered game using polygons. This is what they just did for FFX. It's impossible to do it for FFVII without recreating the entire game nearly from scratch. The only things that are polygons in FFVII are everything inside the Battle scenarios, the minigames, like snowboarding, and the character models on the overhead map.

Yeah Tidus sucked, but I thought that was one of the best games ever. Most RPG fans consider it among the best RPGs ever. You don’t often find RPG lovers, especially FF lovers, that didn’t like it. Spoony‘s a very funny guy though.

The plot totally comes off the rails towards the end. Also the character designs were really stupid. IMO it's one of the better ffs anyway.
Watch his FF10 review it's all spelled out pretty clearly. The game is trash, EXCEPT for the battle system.
