- How to change the hand of a sash lock. How to reassemble spacers and levers on a 3-lever mortice lock when the order is not known. The example shown is a Yale 3 lever mortice sashlock. Click "Show More" for a transcript.
God bless you, I just spent 2 hours trying to fit a new Yale 2 Lever Sashlock , it was pretty much the same as the old broken one on my Workshop door but I had to reverse the bolt. I really couldn't figure it out, nothing on the Yale website, I had got to the point where I was going to take all the loose parts and hurl them into the back garden when I came across your video, I had sorted it out and fitted it within 30 minutes, blood pressure now down to a normal level, thanks very much for taking the time : )
You deserve a sainthood. I can't imagine I would have done this without your help. Thank you.
Wow. this totally saved me, i opened the case and all the springs and spacers leapt for freedom. watching this amazing vid I is was able to reassemble and all works fine.. THANK YOU.
Brilliant, I have just had a problem with a new lock that flew apart as soon as I took the back off to turn the latch direction.
I tried replacing the levers and spacers in as many combinations as I could until my patience expired and just re-assembled it and fitted it. I just didn’t think of replacing the levers one at at time!
I wasn’t too concerned that it now can’t lock as it is an internal door and not really required for security but I just felt that I had to get the thing working for my own curiosity (and pride) you might say.
It is actually an old external door that I restored and re-purposed because of it’s wonderful Victorian stained glass upper, the ancient lock gave out because it the door was so bowed and weathered that it never closed on it’s internal frame without a fair amount of pressure and the strain eventually broke the original lock.
I’ll have another bash now as it’ll come in handy to lock the family out when I’m having a crafty tipple while cooking!
Thanks for this, life saver, all my levers sprung out and took me hours fiddling with it until I found this video. The Yale instructions are totally rubbish. For anyone struggling to see the numbers, the correct order of the levers and spacers seems to be (from top to bottom): 2, 1, spacer, spacer, 3
So much drama, tension and such a cast of characters...
Thanks for the help!
:-)
Just perfect. Thanks for posting. I would have been lost without this video.
fantastic video sir. The levers have numbers engraved in them also "1" & "2" so that should help in telling which sequence each lever goes
Really helpful, spent alot of time trying repair my lock.
Thank you for the clear instructions.
Thanks for this. Really helpful. It was like real time that’s happening to me too
Thank you so much for this helpful video
Great video, very helpful. Thank you for sharing 👍
Thank you, wanted to fix my lock, almost gave up and I got the answer from you 2 min 14 sec n the video, thanks a lot
Thanks very much, very interesting, but I've always wondered why they call this a sash lock. There's nothing like a ribbon in it.
A1 video. Thanks alot 👌
Thank you
Legend
Excellent vid, exactly what I needed for exactly the nightmare scenario you described!
thank you
Bless you mate. Literally I wanted to change the direction and as soon as I opened it it flew apart. Thank God for your video.
Thank you
Thanks for the video saved my self from buying another lock
exactly same as the new one which I dropped onto the floor last night.boy that is complicated.well that's that then more money and items lost or wasted.i'll never put it together again!why they just didn't put a nut and bolt through the whole lock instead of a short flimsy screw ,I'll never know!
Thanks for this! Wish I had looked it up earlier today. I opened the lock and the springs flew out everywhere. Got it all working again thanks to this video! 👍
Highly recommend watching this before taking apart - they act like a mousetrap!
Disappointed that these mechanisms are so unpredictable - the ERA equivalent seems a bit more secure inside!
Thanks for the video. Really helpful to fix my lock.
Best video, straight forward thank you sir
Thanks for the help!
Thank you so much, I was getting crazy
UA-cam is amazing - I bought exactly the same lock, tried to do exactly the same thing and had exactly the same problem. And there is a video explaining how to fix it! Followed your instructions and it worked - thanks!
Very helping. Thanks alot.
Thank you from preventing me going insane after needing to switch the door catch around and mine exploded too when taking apart. Life Saver!
Thank you so much. Really helped.
Thank you very much ❤
Great video💯
Thank you ! 😊
Thank sir
Brilliant! Thank you so much. I was replacing a 3 lever sash lock and discovered the latch needed reversing. Upon opening the case all the levers and spacers flew in all directions. I would have been completely lost without the guidance from your video. Thanks so much for sharing.
This video helped me today
Just wanted to say thank you, i needed to know how the locking arms were positoned as i taken apart my 25 year old Focus DIY 2 lever mortice lock to regrease it and those spring loaded bits flew out.
cheers mate.
Thank you..easy ..👍
Thank you so much! Your video enabled me to reverse the latch and more importantly put back the springs that went everywhere! The leaflet that came with the lock made no sense. Thanks again!
Thank you!
Can you do one for a Yale 5 lever British Standard Sashlock (maximum security). I have taken the screw out to reverse the catch but a small spring has come loose from somewhere but i cannot for the life of me figure out where it goes, please help.
Excellent video, particularly as you encountered the 'usual' difficulties and showed how to recover from them. I have one of these where the lock bolt doesn't retract quite far enough causing it to bind the door into the lockplate. It's about a 0.5mm problem and can be resolved with a sharp tug. It's an old lock and I hope I will find an issue (like compacted grit or similar) and rectify it. But I don't want to pull it part without knowing what I am doing! Thank you.
Thanks, exactly the same issue with the barrel swap - ping everything everywhere and put it all back together. Everyday’s a learning day 🙄
thank you
Thank you
Nice one, works for two lever mortise and simpler to reset when it all jump out as happened here. Most useful bit was the layout of the springs etc. when opened. Many thanks.
Had this issue and couldn't fathom it until seeing this, perfect video, thanks
Your video really helped when i inadvertently opened my 3 lever yale lock, only to find the whole thing explode open in my hands.
Dear God thank you for this. I had exactly the same issue whilst trying to do exactly the same thing
Thanks so much sir much love & respect for your help Allah bless you 🤲
Cheers bro, fixed my lock in 5 minutes thanks to this
Thanks for making this video! Very helpful
Thank you. Helped me when I thought id really mucked up!!!
OMG, thanks so much. You saved my life!!
Many, many thanks for this video. I removed the cover from my lock and the insides exploded into an array of jumbled plates and springs. I followed your instructions and after much angst and at the umpteen attempt, I managed to put it back together again. In my opinion the instruction sheet is a “pile of pants”........meaning, it is total garbage........meaning it is not fit for purpose. Many thanks again, Jim
thanks, you’re a lifesaver! 🙌🏽
Thank you saved me a lot of grief
You're amazing thank you
Excellent, you help me so much!!!
3 lever lock I m assmble
Thank you so so much !
Thanks for that , if there's a problem , someone somewhere, has come across it before and put a video out , on how to fix it. brilliant!
I had to bin mine 😂
