Taxi driver, you are in charge. If the passenger refuses to put on the seat belt, ask them to exit the vehicle. It's your vehicle and you need to adhere to the requirements. Just tell dem u nah carry dem if dem caan comply. What you mean by weh we fi do? A fi yuh car. Tail a wag the dog now?

American here: visit Montego bay often, and it seems quiet a bit of the taxi drivers are lawless. Jamaica needs a good bus system and that would solve the problem.

I agree! No way the government allow taxi to operate as the main transportation for the public. There should be buses for the general public. And most taxi drivers buy their driving licenses and do not know or understand the road code. That could never happen here in London. The government needs to wake up and improve public transportation. Moreover, taxis cannot carry enough passengers at a time. Jamaica needs proper public bus services. Its a shame and disgrace regarding public transport in Jamaica.

The correct process is tedious FYI. And busses are the main transportation in Jamaica called JUTC. But they only drive on the main roads.

I am of the mind that the taxi operators are either criminals or criminal supporters when I listened to why they are striking. They refuse to do what is right and then cry about unfair treatment. Do what is right and then drive without fear of police.

Seems you people have no clue of being out on the road everyday, a police recently stopped me and wanted to ticket me for body protrusion, at the point of stop I had my windows winded up, after stating this to police said nothing like that, while he started to write the ticket I took out the memory card from the dash cam recorder and played the footage of the stop from my phone, after seeing this he apologized, now this police is only 1 of the many who do this, they aim to pressure people, things like this leads to criminal activities, I'm fortunate I have a dash cam and I'm tech savvy, what about those people who only have word of mouth, when u people come here saying people should stop breaking the laws u need to put forward that to the police who do it on a day to day basis, they are here to protect and serve, not harass and pressure

@@donovancameron2867 now I don't operate a taxi, do u operate a taxi, I have relatives that do and I can tell u first hand before I had my own car I took taxis, 99% of the time it's the people who behave badly, a taxi man can tell someone to wear a seat belt and that individual tell him about his mother, if that driver isn't carefully he ends up dead, in the same instance the driver shuts his mouth because he needs the money collected to, buy gas, pay insurance, pay fitness, pay license, buy tires, do maintenance on the car, and still feed his family, u made a statement say they shouldn't carry them, and when that is done they don't make any cash, they become targets for the same delinquents who they have to carry to make a living, WHY IS IT, that most of u who make comments do it without thinking?

When the taxi drivers start holding their colleagues accountable for their reckless driving and activities then you will have less of the good suffering for the bad. Some of those drivers should not have a licenses to drive.

The driver decided who rides in the vehicle. The driver can ask anyone who does not want to wear a seat belt to leave the vehicle. The driver should get the penalty for anyone not wearing a seat belt.

Taxi men very indiscipline
Jamaica need to have an alternative taxi service which is independent from the FOUR WHEEL taxi cars . And can continue to work without interference from the Four wheelers . It would mean one lose and the other gain . It is called the Tuc tuc and will act as a bike taxi that can carry up to 4 passengers . This will help those who want to get to school and work alike .

A long time children a report bulling in school but some of the teachers and principal take it for a joke. Until that children injured the bully or their friends, that is the time they want to do something. Rubbish!!! Also, some of the parents truly don't take the time to address bulling with their children
Those people who support this action by taxi operators need to remember that these drivers are responsible for most of our road fatalities, serious injuries, damage to road furnishing, and a host of other traffic-related issues.

I would prefer to go in town everyday at a cheap cost On the Jutc bus and take my time to walk home with my groceries little by little and pay a cheap fare than to buy plenty things at once and the drivers overcharge , tired of this taxi thing. If the schools had school busses the kids wouldn’t have to miss their exams, this is ridiculous.

Why is it people have to make noise, and miss behave for the government officials to hear the complaints of the people and we have people in every sector working with the government to take care if these problems. We have road projects, rivers projects , water and sewage projects. Our road in in Somerton Adelphi st, James is a disgrace and we have elections in February. These people not doing their jobs.

I heard about a $500,000 ticket for a cracked windshield, mi a wonder if a true. Taxi drivers sometimes drive disgusting but come on now, discretion must be had for the ticket costs.

The taxi operators in Jamaica are a disgrace. I don't know why the government allows these unruly taxi drivers to take over the country like this. The government must improve the public bus service. Because they seem to control the country. Whenever they broke the rules and the police penalised them they all teamed up and protested which locked down public transport. They should never be allowed to take over the public transport system.
points on licenses goes for all drivers, you dont see private people complaining. that is because private people dont drive like taxi drivers do. the taxi drivers dont have common sense and should not be allowed to operate a car, if the passenger refuse to put on a seat belt then stop the car and ask the passenger to exit the car. simple a that. it is the operator of a car that is responsible for the passengers. if they dont want points added to their licenses then stop breaking the law and drive like every private driver do. in jamaica taxi drivers think they own the road and they have the right to drive however they feel like. the government need to bring out a law that taxi drivers can only pull over into a bus stop to pick up passengers instead of them stopping in the middle of the roadway and holding up traffic. and all taxi should be in one color.
