    Upon second listen 👂 and i came to the conclusion that this kicks ass. Amazing guitarist. Excellent vocals. I’m hoping that all my mew subscribers just doesn’t skip past this one just because it’s metal. If you are watching this and you came from tom Macdonald, morissette, emiway, denz gonzales, or anything else non metal, let me know what you thought of this and if you made it to the end🤘i had 900 plus views on tom Macdonald in a day, would love to get our metal reactions more views!

    This album was sort of the birth of "power metal", although it was called "speed metal" at the time, the term power metal wasn't a thing yet. This is their most aggressive and raw album, and Kai's vocals were pretty raw here too but they fit the music. He improved dramatically by the time he sang in his other band Gamma Ray.

    • @adameves5970

      It was known as death metal. they were even featured on a compilation in 1984 (a year before their self titled album) called "Death Metal". It had two songs from Helloween on it.
      Unfortunately Kai lost his voice by the time he was the singer for Gamma Ray (Ralph Sheepers was the singer on the first 3 albums). By Kai's second album singing, 1997's Somewhere Out In Space, they were no longer using standard tuning, they tuned a half step down to help ease the vocal difficulty. Kai's best vocals were on the first 2 albums of Helloween. The pitch of the notes, the tone, the raw ferocity. Also, the only albums you have of Kai singing are 1985 and 1986 when they had no money and no modern equipment. Then the next time you hear him is that awesome intro in Rebellion in Dreamland in 1995, with Hansen owning his own studios. Imagine we heard self titled or WoJ with modern recording quality?

    If you think this is like Judas Priest, you should check out Kai Hansen's group after he left Helloween, Gamma Ray, very Judas Priest, but with great Sci-Fi storytelling, with comparisons to real world events and a touch of environmentalism... Kai Hansen was the Singer, Guitarist of Helloween on Walls of Jericho, (along with Michael Weikath, Guitar, Markus Grosskopf, Bass and the late great Ingo Schwichtenberg, Drums, RIP, he had manic depression, he through himself under a train in Berlin in 1995, so sad, he was an awesome Drummer.) then on Keepers 1 & 2, they got Michael Kiske on Vocals, Kai Hansen left after Keepers 2 and formed Gamma Ray, with Vocalist Ralph Scheepers, he left and Kai now sings again, but his voice is ten times better now, he has an amazing range... Yes I have been following Helloween since 1985 as well as other awesome German Power Metal Bands like, Running Wild and Rage, all still going to this day. I saw Helloween live at Newcastle City Music Hall in 1988, in the UK... Kai Hansen was replaced by Roland Grapow, who was kicked out of Helloween after 13 years in group for no apparent reason, Roland formed another awesome group called Masterplan, with singer Jorn Lande, who has a awesome group called Jorn, just check them all out, just amazing... Masterplan's second album Aeronautics is truly amazing... The Big Teutonic 4 are Kreator, Tankard, Destruction and Sodom.

  • @geggs13
    @geggs13 5 років тому +5

    ok, This is from the early years. They played Speed metal, almost Thrashy at some points, heavily influenced by Judas Priest and Iron Maiden only way faster and heavier. This song is not from Walls of Jericho, it's from their first EP called Helloween (1985).
    Walls of Jericho was released a year later and it is a speed-thrash masterpiece with the same lead singer Kai hansen.
    After the first two albums, a new singer entered the band (Michael Kiske) and they recorded the monumental albums Keeper of the seven keys 1 & 2. (1987, 1988) slightly changing their style from raw speed to more powerful, harmonic and elegant. The lyrics became more "dungeons and dragons" and sometimes even funny. Those two albums single-handedly created what we now call "Power Metal". The rest is history.
    p.s. That slow middle section of Victim of Fate, was always difficult to listen, even for me a die hard fan of them.

    • @nashidmamoon9151
      @nashidmamoon9151 4 роки тому

      The slow section in the re recorded version with Michael Kiske is probably my favorite part of the song. The scream he holds right after it leading to the solo is one of my all time vocal lines.

  • @simonrobinson10

    You should check out the Pumpkins United live performances from 2018, especially How Many Tears
    Lots of fallouts over the years, Kai Hansen was the original singer/guitarist, stepped back from vocals for the next few albums as a young Micheal Kiske took over on vocals (his voice is amazing still, better than Bruce!), before both left and a new singer Andi Deris took over in 1993
    They all kissed and made up, and now play as one huge 7 piece band - 3 guitars, bass, drums and 2 singers (Kai doing mostly guitar work)
    Hopefully back in the UK in 2022 - I have been a massive fan since my teens in 1987!

  • @metalstorm7506
    @metalstorm7506 4 роки тому +2

    It’s from the very first Helloween album, and they have never denied that they were influenced by the classic sound of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. As a matter of fact their former guitarist, the one here, Kai Hansen himself describes Walls of Jericho as “Iron Maiden on steroids”. However they have overcome the direct fanboy references very early on and moved on to their own path. They have had lots of lineup changes throughout the years, but their music was always amazing.
    It’s a good song but not the best - neither in Walls of Jericho or their entire discography to come. If you are truly interested, you will be amazed how productive they are and how versatile their music is.
    It still amazes me how oblivious the average American metal head is for the European bands like Helloween, Blind Guardian and many more. They have been headlining shows and festivals for decades and the Americans are just discovering them. Better late than never, though

    I am a new subscriber and love your reactions...With that being said, when you get a chance can ya react to
    #Denzel Curry "Bulls on Parade" cover of Rage Against The Machine's classic track. He is a black rapper from Florida but you will be shocked at his vocals, energy, and raw talent this kid has. Takes balls to cover a song that is loved by millions, but he kills it...Thanx and I will be watching

      Cool, you will want to react to the video on "triple j" channel. It has over 6 million views and has the visuals of him and the band performing the song...the others only have the audio. Thanx

      I did watch. To be frank I’m not into metal but I loved this one. I think this song will pump me up before I go hit some pr’s in the gym.
