to everyone trying to learn: 1) start skipping rope at least 5 days a week for 10-20 minutes, start doing it to juke/footwork/anything 150-160 bpm once you get the hang of skipping rope basics (but, please remember to bend your knees and stay on balls of your feet). 2) use the controller to slow this video down to keep up with the moves, practice them to slower house music (especially classic ghetto house like DJ Funk, DJ Deeon, Dance Mania Recs). it takes time, give it at least 6 months of consistent practice to really start feeling the progress, but it's definitely doable.
ur not a dancer then it probably wouldn't see it as basic, but most of those dances r old like before it was chi foot work mc hammer was doing it, u could go to a techno clubs back in the 2000 and see most of those foot works,(that's is where it all started after all tencho) so for a dancer that knows the old school style that would be basic like the guy said they r probably called a different name on another side of chi but also in tx it would be called something else as well. most of those dances I can show u done by people in the 80s, try watchin the movie breaken 1 and 2 and see the style of dance most people grew up with and u will understand y he called this basic, dances evolve over time some do not just the names does lol
I'm from the CHI and Ive been a lot of places. And yes these ARE basic dance moves Tyron Prins but not out of a Techno club amod roshode. these dances come from the streets of Chicago in the schools and house/basement parties of the early 90s. I remember the evolution of this style of dance on the south side of the CHI and it definitely wasn't from watching MC Hammer LMFAO. Some of these dances were called the 40s, skateboard, and washing machine but derived from dances like the Charleston and black swing dancing from way back. I remember watching old black and white movies with dancing from way back and putting a new twist on them. We also had non-footwork dances moves like the Peculator(south side and west side), Pressure cooker, and Beat that Bitch with a bat to name a few. I'm just glad to see someone put a video out of this Chicago style of dancing.
The foot wrk is awesome bring from Baltimore most of our foot wrk is about the same. I see u add a lil twist on your personal moves as us It would be Amazing if all cities could come together & do a Collaboration Of All Foot Wrk Across The Cities. “BMORE REP”
Thank you for representing City of Chicago the right way. You brought back so many wonderful memories of Bud Billiken Parade and childhood days. Thanks.
I just pictured myself doing these moves and just burst out laughing!!! First off, my feet would just be confused and trip over each other. I'd call it a new dance 'the floor licking'.
I’m 55 years old so I’m gonna watch you young’uns having fun, then I’ll put on some music I heard on Soul Train in 1988 and cool out. Peace be with y’all 😎😀
Ha, around 90-96 the Running Mans/Mop and Glows was called the Skateboard, and the Mikes was called the Tip Toe, of course it was done slower because it was done to 4 to floor House/Ghetto House. It sped up and evolved over time once the music sped up to what we call Juke Music now... Still Good shit, I'm from the Culture and still support it to this Day! 💯
Music and dance. Bringing us all together fof decades. Although I'm not from CHI it is in my heart. As I've partied there for years. Mad respect. Great footwork
These moves are like the stages of having ants in your pants.. #1 when theres ants in your pants #2 when they biting real hard #3 when you get the ants out but theres more so you try and dodge them #4 when they get in your pants again #5 when u decide to give up and run away but realise the ants are surrounding you #6 when the ants get on your shoes but they new jordans so you try and shake the ants off #7 still tryna shake them off...# #8 when the ants start getting faster #9 when the ants crawling up your legs again #10 when u tryna shake them out again
yooo! im from Baltimore . . .I love chiraq footwork you guys are dope man. I'm definitely going to practice these and incorporate it into my Baltimore club dancing.
this is super helpful. nice how u broke down each step at a time, but weren't afraid to show us some variations to get some context. got my erk and jerks down. looking forward to getting to the point where I can freestyle between moves.
hey! your video is great! your presentation and the fact that with out saying so u are able to bring forward the respect u have for the moves, for your own talent!! thank u!! street art rocks!! hope u dance on street corners!!!

Mad respect to yall. Does upper body movement play a big part in footwork? Im a bboy & I wanna expand my style. I give my respect to Chi town and the culture! I'm interested in learning this .
I think it depends on the dancer judging from what I've seen on UA-cam. But as person who's been learning to footwork for almost a year I mostly stick to the "Shirt grabbing" you see some dancers do and jacking(I used to house dance) for upper body movement.
As a spriner i know that it is really hard to move with such a frequency. It's obvious, that your central nervous system is on a high level, guys! Nice work, i would be grateful, if you share with me some tips and exercises to make my innervation even better!
