If you like this sort of stuff, but when you will have a fantasy phase you might want to take a look at Sellswords and Spellslingers because it's a solo/coop game in the Song of... family.
I feel like there Rogue Stars has some good things going for it, but it definitely falls short of being an A-tier sci-fi game.
I agree with your call on rogue stars its to crunchy and no single player, some one mentioned " 5 par secs from home" Its well worth a look . Some good add ons like BUG HUNT , OFFICER DOWN , GANG WARFARE , SALVAGE CREW ( on a spceship ) and a few more.
ps Its also single player campign from the get go.

Right on. Rogue Stars gets a lot right, with tons of options for character creation and battlefield environment/weather, but the combat is so cumbersome and brain-burny that it just wasn't fun for me.

It’s called Journey To The Overland. It’s listed on my home page and on BGG.
I know Grimdark Future: firefight has a solo/co-op set of rules. that might scratch the itch. maybe? on the plus side, they are free!
