The easiest thing to do to prevent these deer from hassling you, is to simply stretch out your arms and show your open hand palms to the deer (kind of like signaling traffic to stop in front of you). I read about this simple tip before my trip to Nara last year, and it worked like a charm. No need to panic and run away or get angry at the deer.
They looked cut and there wasn’t one that had any antlers. You’re right in general but in this case with the amount these beautiful animals and the amount of people, both older and children I think that for the most part they are removed for safety. Is there anyone willing to take the time to look into this? That at that park or place that’s what’s done. I’d be interested in knowing if things are done to protect the people as well as the animals. 👍💚. Thank you.
@@fuzzball4258 no, because there are tonnes of other videos where the antlers are fully intact in different growing stages. The breeds of deer in these parks aren’t known to be totally aggressive, they’re just pushy because of constant human interaction. And if they were a true risk to visitors they’d have never opened it to the public to begin with.
Hey Mikey! I was actually here the same day you were filming this. At around 3:55 that's me in the back with the black pants. I saw you filming that exact thing and recognized you but was too nervous to say hi lol.
Johnson Taylor “Oooo look at me! I’m so special because I’m trying to dim down other peoples fears.” See how ignorant you look? Some people have social anxiety or are extremely insecure to the point where they can’t function in a social setting. Some are afraid that they won’t be perceived in a good light if they interact with a person. Don’t ignore people’s fears or insecurities. Telling them to just “get over it” is blatantly tactless. You don’t tell people who are afraid of public speaking to just “get over it” or people who are afraid to go into competition to “get over it” because you don’t know what they’re experiencing at that very moment.
I stumbled upon your videos because of you were on the trending tab. I am glad I did.I like that you are so into your heritage and showing other Asian heritage's. Whether that be food or your vlogs. It's nice man, I like seeing diversity and learning about food and culture from a person who is so in touch with your culture. I love it man.
De Facto. I agree I'm Canadian of Irish/Scottish and English decent and really like learning about other cultures especially Asian cultures that are so much older than mine. I also like to learn about African middle eastern and European cultures too but the Asian culture speaks to me for some reason.
That's just has to be an amazing experience. Those deer are so cute. One day I would love to just go to Japan and enjoy the wonderful spiritual atmosphere. I hope you had a great time there. I'm so jelly :)
I love watching every video you upload on your travels. it's truly from a tourist's perspective, but holds genuine advice. my husband (you remind me much of him) loves food as well so I have a growing list based off of your recommendations. thank you so much!!
OMG!!!! I lived in Oji-cho near Nara Park when I was a Exchange student. The deer pretty much ignore you , but when you buy the little cookies they are your new best friend. I love Nara Park.
I was here in February. It was really fun. The deer were cute, but indeed quite cheeky. Beautiful little city (Nara) and the huge wooden temple is great too.
When I went to Nara park, at first I was like yay omgosh deer! And then when I got the cookies, the deer with antlers bow so much that they just stab you in the butt ;-; And then when i was distracted by that deer, another deer jumped up and stole the cookies. The whole stack.
Hi. I enjoyed this so much I watched it twice. So peaceful and relaxing. Starting my day feeling all is well in the world. (Even if it is only my tiny little part of it). THANK YOU!
Kofuku Ebisu no, it’s annoying that he gets annoyed that they gnaw at him and bite his coat. Just because you want an animal to behave doesn’t mean they will.
Ah yes, Nara :) Great little place, had a wonderful tonkotsu ramen there. Spent a bit too much time in the west (palace site) and got to the deer park a bit too late, but it was a very nice trip.
Deer in Japanese is Shika, Shikamaru quite literally translates to “as a deer”, every male in the Nara clan has a first name that begins with Shika (deer) for that reason
I have been to Nara. It is amazing. The dear were very nice to me. When you pull those cookies out you will be surround in no time if you are not carful.
I've been watching your You Tube channels for over a year now... I have son's around your age...I understand that you bring out the Asian aspect of things but I have to tell you ...that as a Mom you grew up to be an incredible son (I'm speaking just Son-Mom relationships from all nationalities)....Your Parents have to be so proud!
When they bow like that they're actually challenging you, kind of trying to threaten you into giving them food. Its not polite at all, hahaha. Love your videos!
I love ur travel and food vlogs... how much did ur Japan travel cost though? I'd love to go where u went but I know I need to save up for the trip too...
Very interesting video. Thank you. Reminded me of a visit in Switzerland to some clinic in Davos for a few weeks. There were colonies of squirrels in the nearby forest path. If you just rustled with a plastic bag in your pockets you thought the bark of the tree came alive as squirrels came down from the trees in hordes and besieged you for nuts. They even climbed up your legs and even chased each other around your body at times like you were a tree trunk as they were jealous on each other for food. They also nipped people as well from time to time but never bit hard when they mugged people for the nuts. :) An unforgettable experience. :)
Great video! The mountain could have a fire break, they cut a wide strip through the forest to stop wild fires spreading, or the land is farmed to that point before the tree line.
*UFOs at **7:11* Wow, only Mikey could do that, he's got the power. I don't know if others saw them, but even on my tiny old cell screen, I saw them. Last deity, sitting golden, something whitish flashed across his upheld palm, & then a triangle object follows from below. Trippy. I loved this video about the Nara deer. Awesome.
okay, this might be a little too late. But many animals will "nudge" each other to get attention. Like horses, they will try to eat anything that light smell or look like food. I sure they did not think they were being aggressive, they just wanted to get your attention to get the food. Much how like a dog will rub against you or scratch at your hand to get food.
it's one o'clock in the morning and I'm watching Mikey bow to deer 😂😂
A Rex haha same, plus im drinking chocolate milk
A Rex LOL, it's an hour later and it's 1 a.m. my time and I'm watching too. Gotta stop! I have to work tomorrow!!
A Rex me too Mike is the man
then fall asleep dreaming of hungry deer :-) could be creepy tho...
A Rex same dude.

or don't go there
Melody Brown why? Kyoto is so awesome the deer look so cool too
The antlers are shed every year, not cut off. They then regrow very quickly, some of the fastest growing things know to man!
Hey thanks, even I assumed they were cut.

Ya
I went there in the summer and the deers antlers were cut off but when I came back in the winter their antlers are so long

Video from the train... throws me back a lifetime ago, when I was an exchange student in Japan, 33 years ago.
Great vid! Thank you!!
Thanks for watching :-)
I laughed so hard when that guy got scared at 2:31
Wat a puss
After Mikey bows to the deer, the deer slaps him in the head and says in his Mr. Miyagi voice, "Look eye, always look eye."
Larz This is perfect
So many bowing deer before he noticed they were bowing.
Title: "Polite bowing deer"
In the middle of the video: "He's biting my butt!"
😂😂😂

lol nice
You where the Deer?
What happened to the deer near you

What a lovely adventure. That tsukemen and juicy karaage look dang good.
Looks like the deer have domesticated humans.
"He is biting my butt!" 😂😂😂
japan is so amazing everytime i watch your uploads it makes me wanna go more and more
The female deer were more polite than the males lol I love them 🥺🥰 what an amazing experience!!! Great video, Mikey!
Male deers are more aggressive. They are like , give me more, or i will bite your butt.
OMG!!!! I lived in Oji-cho near Nara Park when I was a Exchange student. The deer pretty much ignore you , but when you buy the little cookies they are your new best friend. I love Nara Park.

Hey, it was really nice of you to honour your stunt team.
i love the vlogs when he is in japan en i love his personalitie japan is on my bucket list to 1 place to go
Welcome to Nara! That's my favorite udon restaurant! I go there at least twice a month;)
When I went to Nara park, at first I was like yay omgosh deer! And then when I got the cookies, the deer with antlers bow so much that they just stab you in the butt ;-; And then when i was distracted by that deer, another deer jumped up and stole the cookies. The whole stack.
Hey that's a scam deer have
Hi. I enjoyed this so much I watched it twice. So peaceful and relaxing. Starting my day feeling all is well in the world. (Even if it is only my tiny little part of it). THANK YOU!
Thanks for watching :-)
The shrine was there since 768 AD - the vending machine was installed in 769......
Out of all the crazy things going on in the world. This was a beautiful video to watch. Thank you!
I am so addicted to these episodes!!
People who disliked this are jealous that Mikey got to exchange bows with a polite deer~ xD
Kofuku Ebisu no, it’s annoying that he gets annoyed that they gnaw at him and bite his coat. Just because you want an animal to behave doesn’t mean they will.
@@oktxboy yeah.. he's so sensitive and whiny like a bitch
Just went to Nara a few weeks ago and experienced this but still fun to watch your blog. New sub 🙌🏼
I wish I had met you sooner on UA-cam. Your videos make my day/evening.
"i wanna thank them for all their service, you know..for the whole christmas thing."
lmao...you are so darn funny.
Awesome video. These deer were so polite and cute! I really hope I can visit Nara, Japan some day just to see these beautiful animals.
Shot of the mountain was probably clouds blocking direct sunlight from hitting all but that area. Pretty neat looking.
Love Mikey Chen’s videos. Was almost half expecting him to sprinkle some hot oil on the crackers before feeding it to the deers.
I don't know how I found you but I love your videos and you just got a subscriber! Keep up the good work, man!
Really am enjoying your vlogs of Japan and learning a lot along the way. Thank you!
Omg Mike this is ur cutest video!!! I kept awwing the entire time I saw u with the deers!! 😍
When I went to Nara I witnessed a deer that ate a 10‘000 yen bill (roughly 100$). 😅
Mikey, just found your videos randomly and can't get enough. Good stuff my man. Definitely earned a subscribe!
Deer shed their antlers every year.
Ah yes, Nara :) Great little place, had a wonderful tonkotsu ramen there. Spent a bit too much time in the west (palace site) and got to the deer park a bit too late, but it was a very nice trip.
I truly love your videos!
=D
Thanks for watching :-)
Thank you for answering!
I truly appreciate you taking the time to reply!
=D
I always enjoy these alternate videographers instead of all the neistat copycats.
Giggling...
"And in this Ancient Shrine, there has to be a Vending Machine"
Your Vids, are very entertaining
Love the cultures and food you show us.
Mikey Chen back with another awesome video
Thanks for watching :-)
Mike, some deer were really polite by bowing, that was awesome!
just realized. Nara like Shikamaru from naruto. Nara clan now it makes sense why they have close affinity to the deer.
Deer in Japanese is Shika, Shikamaru quite literally translates to “as a deer”, every male in the Nara clan has a first name that begins with Shika (deer) for that reason
I spent the first week of my study abroad in Nara. Could not have been in a better city for my first introduction.
I have been to Nara. It is amazing. The dear were very nice to me. When you pull those cookies out you will be surround in no time if you are not carful.
8:17 hahaha pretty sure it was just a break in the clouds so the sun was hitting the trees lol..
Cutest thing I've seen all day! Oh the deer were adorable too!
Hi there. I am from India... I just heard about it in my textbook and now I really watched it... very polite animals there.... 👏👏
"There has to be a vending machine" 😂😂😂😂
At the end where the trees are a different "color" is due to the clouds parting and the sun shining through :)
7:14 - Anyone else see Ho-oh up there?
Frankie Dingleberry Ho-oh is in eclurek town, that is Kyoto not Nara
pa pt Sorry, I don't know anything about actual Japanese locations :p The tower just looked similar to the games is all
+pa pt omg have you any humour? He's joking XD.
I really love your vlogs about Japan 😍😍😍
I went to Nara in 1995, and its so wonderful youve visited as well 👍🌻
8:15 its because of the sunlight. obviously :)
Yes, that is what I was going to say. Maybe where the sun was shining from behind clouds.
no its HAARP look on google
phahahaha obviously, but after drinking flouride water in america so many years it wouldn't
sound so logically to you , believe me
This looks like such an amazing experience!
apart from getting bitten in the bottom by a male deer.
aww the small deers were so adorable and they bowed alot
Mike you did it again😂what ever comes out of your mouth is golden
You and your videos make my world go round and complete!

Nice video, thanks again Mike
Apparently the deers "bow" as a warning sign that they're going to headbutt you. So they're not actually being polite they're in fact squaring up lol.
