I love the way Dominic responded to the idea of playing straight on the Police songs; his graciousness toward Andy and the lines as written. That was class.
That was class. Similar to an actor being true to the writer.
Indeed - and the truth is - he is right - Andy is a tremendous guitarist - as is Dominic
The popular press typically does a poor job of talking to musicians about actual music and musical/intellectual processes. These interviews will stand as the interviews of record for these important figures.
Totally agree. They are precious historical records from a music point of view.
A musician talking to a musician, nothing better
journalists are not specialists they are leeches without brains
@@GuyLakeman Don't generalize.
There are excellent journalists and bad journalists, just as there are very good plumbers and bad plumbers.
A dear friend of mine works as a journalist for a big newspaper (in Berlin) and she's the definition of a professional who works with great diligence and competence.
I I’ll I CD o I C on ok
At the end of the interview, it was extremely clear that Sting had enjoyed the interview. The ultimate compliment was he said, this was a very interesting conversation. He seemed to feel that he had just had a great conversation with someone that spoke his language!
Yes - I think also Sting enjoyed the opportunity to reflect on some really interesting aspects of his own work as well music in general and the chance to rise to the challenge of trying to articulate thoughts and beliefs around these things. I'd say a bad day for Sting is when he doesn't feel his brain has been exercised sufficiently. This wasn't one of those days.
So good I played it twice.
One thing I loved in the Sting interview was how you directed questions to Dominic. Spot on. So apparent, Theye really loved how you could talk serious shop with them. Even the most pro network interviewers neglect to address all people in a multi person interview. So cool, you addressed him by name when you were directing your questions to him. Just wanted to give you this feedback. Best Sting interview EVER.
I don't think any interview I've seen with Sting FELT as real and present as yours. Think about that. You and your little self-run UA-cam channel made in one hour what I think is literally the best interview with a towering legend of pop music. It was fantastic. Thank you.
Agreed.
Exactly. I don’t think Sting was waiting for the caffeine to kick in, I think he subconsciously had his guard up, thinking “here we go again, another interview”. But after 5mins or so, you could tell Sting opened up thinking “Ah, this is refreshing”.
It was a great great interview.
I was so good, I’m going to watch it again.
Totally agree!!
I think he had to step up to the interview, given RB has such huge reach to music aficionados. And I'm guessing RB's audience/subscribers mostly consist of 35+ y/o (most of which would be at least familiar with Sting's work.) I'm sure Sting has a lot of followers, but he has no sense of candor, personality enough to really reach his fans. He's one of the last hold outs who thinks he just has to make music and put it out there. He needs creators like RB to humanize him and spark some interest in his work these days. Otherwise, I feel he thinks he's still a rock star.
"Sting is a fan of the channel."
That would make me so nervous! Congrats, Rick.
At about 4:45
Your Sting interview gave me the most joy I’ve had in months. Our shallow, tumultuous world feels bleak and your time with him felt rich, smart, and sincere. From both you and him. It’s nice to see him in such an approachable mindset. You’ve captured and recorded history, Rick…thank you!!
I couldn't help but smile when they broke into "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic." Such an upbeat song that I loved as a kid.
@@tomdomenico I think Rick said Sting was at the dentist before the interview and some of the anesthesia was still in his system at the beginning.
@@HarmonyHomeInspectionServices that song takes me back to one of the best parties of my high school years…great memories
His best interview, ever.
Dominic's been on Facebook to say how much he and Sting loved the interview. For me (I'm 70), there are two more ultimate interviews .... McCartney and Paul Simon. Much respect to you Rick.
Sting in particular really had a good time...he looked as if you were just going to be yet another interview with the usual questions...but you surprised him by knowing and talking about the music. He was tight at the beginning, loose and laughing out loud by the end. You did a great job...very respectful and professional.
I too noticed Sting's posture change as the interview went on. He was impressed by Rick as we all are. /d
Any bands who block Rick Beato’s videos are shortsighted & out of touch. This man is one of the great teachers out there reaching people. He’s trying to spread the word in a positive way about your music.
Any musician at the level Sting has achieved has an ego, understandable. Sting and Dominic left there egos at the door. Maybe I'm wrong but I am impressed by the interview, interaction that I witnessed. Great job Rick! I think Sting was happy to answer real musical questions from a real musician, producer/engineer, that didn't ask the standard questions that he has had to answer for the past 30 years. Keep up the great work.
nah, sting was born an insufferable prick.
They seemed very genuine, both as humans and as students of all styles music. Such a great interview!
@@stagpreston9022 How would you know? Have you known him since birth?

The post wrap talk was best. Sting says "what a great conversation". He really enjoyed it I think.
I think Sting opened up to you, Rick, because of your very incredible in depth understanding of music. I've seen quite a few interviews of Sting, however most of them were radio stations promoting tours, promoting recently release albums. You, however, knew the whole catalogue, all the songs, had broke down all the songs, in an almost Autistic enthusiastic way, that made it very, very easy for Sting to relate to you for this collaboration. That's what made your interview so fantastic, so interesting.
Yes! And not only that, Rick was incredibly gracious throughout, being sure to include Dom, and backing away from lines of inquiry if they didn't land. Compared to 99.9% of other interviewers, Rick is not only head and shoulders above, he's on stilts.
Rick's knowledge of music and respect for his subject makes him very qualified to do these interviews. Some clueless hipster who works for Rolling Stone, not so much.
yes "almost autistic" is always very relatable .... (I'm questioning that phraseology - Rick Beato is not autistic or almost autistic)
@@wadecottingham hes not saying it's autistic, merely making a comparison with the almost innocent level of enthusiasm and breadth in discussing a subject
I agree with you. I’m guessing all the dopey interviews Sting has done in his career, has him enjoying this one for a change of pace.
Sting was impressed when you explained the construction and note selection of his music. Every time you did that he grinned. He opened up to you because of your appreciation of the creation, care, dedication Sting takes in his music. You also didn't grope him, but was relaxed (emotionally under control) and he appreciated the videos you did about him and his music. Also musicians need any way to promote his new album. But your interview of Sting and Dominic was fantastic and you really need a part II. Well done!!
Absolutely. Rick opened the interview about how Sting emphasized the flattened 6th on I Burn For You and how surprising it was to the ears. This is one music nerd talking to another and it made for a brilliant interview.
@@1999C2996 I saw what you're talking about and agree, but it makes better discussion when the interviewer is off. When Sting made the corrections, we got to hear his actual process, which was so interesting. The song writing is more organic than I had imagined, and made sense to hear how the songs came to life. Had Rick been correct, we wouldn't have heard that part of Sting's process, it would have been nothing more than a Sting giving a head nod. Good observation, though.
A true musician appreciates that, many people may love it, but very few truly “get it”!! (They may love it, but don’t know WHY they love it)!
Absolutely! This was it!
It was very revealing into the musical soul of both men… not pretentious at all. So, a historical rarity. You are building up a historic archive, Rick, that will stand the test of time. I predict that, after the Sting interview, you will attract Paul Simon, Don Henley, Paul McCartney and many other greats! They all want their legacy preserved and well represented. You are the man to do this…!
I particularly love how Sting explained the importance of the bridge. I think the absence of it also has an effect on how everyone today processes things. Many tend to just reflect on the hurt a particular sad song evokes, when in fact there should be a resolution. Didn't realize how a powerful message can be conveyed through a part of a song that many musicians today fail to utilize.
Sting and Dominic are intimidatingly clever, talented and profound. Rick, I loved the precision, insight, confidence and enthusiasm you brought to your conversation with these two greats. I don't think there are many people who would be able to interview Sting and Dominic at this level. This is such a treat to watch. Sting has had to develop a thick skin in the face of a sometimes unintelligent industry and a press who like to dumb down their content for the sake of reach while simultaneously feeling smarter than everyone else. Hard for the press to do that with someone like Sting. This background makes it very hard for any sincere interviewer to get into a flowing and easy conversation with him. But Rick, you did it. Because of your incredible knowledge, insight, homework and the confident respect you showed, you aboslutely nailed it in your conversation with Sting and Dominic! You have opened up their world to us and in the process have given us something really inspiring. A significant gift both to your and Sting's catalogue! Bravo! And Thank you!
I hope your Sting video doesn't get blocked.....because that version of Every Little Thing She Does is Magic sounded a lot like Sting. :)
What? The singer totally missed the high notes, that noob!
@@chrissoclone Try singing tenor range at 50 let alone 70.
Then Rick gets Stung.
@@violinmke lol hahahaha good one
“The guitarist can play a C cord, but it’s not in C unless I say it is.” Sting made me laugh when he said that.
It’s so true though. That’s what I loved about playing the bass. Also the rhythm is controllable, which you probably know.
Being the bass player is liberating.
And if you don’t know music theory how do you know that it’s the C in the bass that makes it a C chord? Because you know theory :)
@@RickBeato Once again Sting surprise his audience 👏! Thank you Prof. Beato for that epic and historic interview! I had to see it again because english isn't my main language but what I learned so far from your channel is majestic! Hope The 🚔 brings the world with other tour!
P.S. Please do a video about Spanish Bands like Mana (Mexico), Robi Draco Rosa (Puerto Rico), Soda Stereo (Argentina) and/or Nek (Italy)...👍!
@@RickBeato No question. The Police are like Steely Dan in so much that it has hooks like pop but so sophisticated that you KNOW someone went to school.
Rick, you really need to do an in-depth sit down like that with Peter Gabriel.
Yes. This!
PleAsE!
Great suggestion!
Yes to that. Peter Gabriel wil be amazing.
I second this!
Congratulations Rick Beato! You may have conducted one of the best interviews with Sting in his whole career. I've never seen better. Questions and discussion about how the music was actually written and produced. Not drama, gossip column stuff musicians typically do. This may open up doors for the Beato page and brand.
The Sting interview is, to me, a possibly career-making event. How does it get better than that? Maybe if you could get the stones together in a room.... But, what I mean, is that you should be very proud and maybe use it to allow yourself to aim even higher. Who knows what your destiny is now? Congratulations, and we all benefited from your competence, rigor, and persistence. You just keep going! I think of your children: you set an amazing example for them.
Sting is a very smart level headed person
Better = Paul McCartney
@@johnmcdermott5505 well, McCartney would be pretty hard to beat also!
@@johnmcdermott5505 I'd love a Jeff Lynne, Rick Rubin or Quincy Jones interview.
Page and Plant and JPJ, one after the other, couple hours each
You're a musicians musician Rick. When you review you review like a musician rather than a typical music journalist who focusses on accessability and therefore dumbs it all down. We really appreciate what you do. Here's to the next 1,000+ uploads.
It wasnt just coffee that took Stings reservations away, but Beato`s honesty and humbleness as well
It's fascinating that the way Rick Beato talks about his channel is just how Sting talked about his approach to music.
That's probably why, as a non musician, I'm always prepared to invest the time to watch and listen to so many of his videos.
I would love if you somehow got to interview Mark Knopfler next, he's my all time favorite artist
Brilliant recommendation.
I defer to no one in my respect for MK's playing but, virtually without exception, his interviews are appallingly bad and repetitive. RB would really have to pull a miracle out of the bag to get an MK interview to sound interesting. We can live and hope, though.
Sting interview was really great, no question about it.
Another Geordie.
Geordie lad 😎
Word! Do this please! :)
When I made my comment about Sting being a little shocked when you started talking about chord progressions in the comments to the last video I didn't mean it to suggest that Sting doesn't know about all of this, just that he's never, or at least very rarely, been asked a question like this, and he thought what have I gotten myself into. The whole point about him having just come from the dentist actually explains a lot about how he was though. He is an amazing artist and I was just like a little kid at Xmas when I saw you'd interviewed Sting. It was an amazing interview, great to know more about him, from a different perspective, so thank you for this, thank you so very much!!!
I really saw that Sting is a musical god.
Yes, Rick, the best Sting interview I have EVER seen was yours. So spot on I was able to share it with my composition students in hopes they could hear it from the master himself about ways to create a song, through fulfilling a structural pattern and harmonic understanding while savoring the element of surprise, always! Thank you Rick for helping to spread the idea that music theory is not lame, but entirely relevant, especially when you hear gents like Sting or Dom Miller talk about their go to source is JS Bach. Yup!
“Sting is a fan of the Channel “. That must be a nice thing to say. Actually if you think about it that’s a huge compliment on the quality of your output.
I am one of your non-musical subscribers. With that being said, I enjoyed your video with Sting so much. I will watch it again, even if I can’t intelligently relate. The joy in your smiles and the passion that was shared gave me joy. Thank you
Somewhat the same, have messed with a few different instruments...but always remember no matter the age it's definitely never a bad time to start.
Nor am I a musician. Took some piano lessons, but otherwise…….But listening to Rick allows me to appreciate music more fully. He looses me on some of his videos with his technical jargon, but I continue to listen cause I love music. All kinds. Rick is the best!
Same here 🙂
You may find it hard to believe, but I now have much more respect for Sting than prior to your interview. It was a very smart move on his part to sit down with you and just be who he is.
You hit the nail on the head when you said that they have important historical information that is crucial to document and eternalize for the future. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR EFFORT IN DOING ALL THE THINGS YOU DO BRO!!
The work you do here is amazing. The Sting interview was special because he's been so disrespected by the press. To have you interview him with your deep undersranding and appreciation of his music must have been great for him too.
Please do tell about the disrespect in the press! Inquiring minds want to know...
@@jasonh6919 Disrespect refers to decades of negative articles about his personal life, instead of writing about his music. You can search online to find some of it but it goes back to the 80's and 90's.
@@audioupgrades Thank you! I will search it up.
@@jasonh6919 It's probably mainly in the British press.
Yes, these interviews are priceless. Nobody asks the questions that you do. No pablum in your content. Your sincerity and true and honest interest come through loud and clear.
"these interviews are priceless."
This is history. When our grand children look back at music in the 20th century, they will open books and watch videos. This is one of those historical videos.
Remember the very first one with Steve Vai he asked him about poly rhythms and Steve loved that he had never been asked that before.
Love your interviews with musicians, Rick.
Hope to see more.
Rick Wakeman or Elton John would be my ideal interview.
It would be amazing to have JIMMY PAGE on Rick’s channel!
Rick you need to know I am as musical as a wet cat in a tin bucket, and yet every single video you make I watch because your style and grace are wonderful.
Thank you sir for such excellent quality entertainment and on a side note your Sting interview has made my year !
Hearing about Sting going to the dentist made me smile. I think you interviewed him and Dom as peers, a producer, and fellow musician.
Refreshing and sounded like three guys having a normal conversation.
Hey Rick,
As a music teacher in NH, I always watch your shows and point my kids your way. Your so appreciated here in my world!!!
An interview with Sting's guitar tech Danny would be pretty cool, too!
Danny played the ENTIRE bass track on Demolition Man.
Hey Rick - the next Interview guest could only be one man - Sir Paul McCartney !! Take your chance !
Beyond the tremendous knowledge you possess, you create a feeling of being a personal friend. That is a unique ability (and possibly the main reason for you deserved success.)
The Sting interview was the most entertaining and informative I have ever seen. It was real, raw, and fun to see the mutual respect humanly and instinctively between both of you.
The fact that musicians of such stature reach out to you indicates that they respect what you do. That's an amazing and well-deserved compliment.
I had never heard of the Dom chap before, who was also present during the Sting interview. But first of all, it was great that he was included- it changed the whole dynamic. Moreover, I liked how you treated him like he belonged there.
He did belong there. He doesn't need Sting to be successful.
Dominic Miller has been a huge part of Sting's sound for decades.
That dude Dom is an incredible part of Stings music, but he the perfect partner in writing music for he knows Sting is the Boss and he is ok with that!
You asked Sting about the sparingly used hook bass notes on "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You"...which I also love! and he willingly answered and admitted how dliberate they were....amazing! exactly the sort of questions I would be asking and the answers I want to hear. I'm now subscribed!
Great interview! I love how Dom looked grumpy and skeptical in the beginning, and then gradually loosened up when he probably realized how exceptionally competent Rick is. At the end he was all smiles.
I knew nothing of Dominic Miller before the Sting interview but he’s fascinating!
I was enjoying the thought of you sitting there doing the interviews just as much as the content of what you discussed when watching them. You're a rare breed Rick and I love getting to watch you do what you do. : )
Your questions and interview vibe were really great. Depth, and time was given. No shortcuts. Great journalism is rare these days.
Yeah this. Listened to the whole thing on a road trip with a mate and the whole time I was thinking about how much joy Rick must have been feeling. Savouring every moment.
I’ve been a fan of Sting since seeing the Police in 1982 (flexing) and this was easily his best interview ever. I’ve never seen him talk about his songwriting process on such a granular level.
I’m also now a Rick Beato fan!
I like that use of granular. Singularly appropriate.
Never watched an ITV like the one with Sting. I was on the room with you guys. It was incredible. Stay free, stay foolish, keep music alive. Thank you Rick!
As far as how well Sting understands underlying theory, I thought one of his most interesting comments was about how as a bass player and lead singer, he's driving both the harmonic structure - "Dominic and everyone can play a C chord, but it's not a C chord unless I play C"- and the melody. I don't think he'd be able to do that if he didn't have a deep understanding of how chord progressions work and how harmony supports melody. And yes, it's great to hear musicians interviewed by people who have the same depth of knowledge and understanding of how the music actually works, as well as a level experience with the actual craft of writing songs and making records.
Sting was humble about the process but he's well read and a bit of an academic on subjects as an x teacher so I think he has a great understanding of music and knows enough classic history to also be organic by the lessons of life.
at least that's been my take on his personality..got to meet him on the SNL set on new years 2000.
im no sting/police superfan by any means, but that was one of the best musician interviews ive ever listened to. it made me much more interested in digging deeper into stings music!
Congrats again Rick for getting such a cool opportunity, and great job! I hope theres more similar content coming in the future...
P.S. I would LOVE an Alex Lifeson and/or Geddy Lee interview
Yes, Lifeson and/or Lee would be incredible!!
Sting/The Police are well worth looking deeper into. He's such an amazing musician and lyricist, and he's worked with so many other amazing musicians. He's also fantastic live. I've seen him live more often than any other artist.
I agree with everything here. I'd say this was a conversation rather than an interview.
GREAT comment...please explore The Police....Regatta De Blanc, Ghost In The Machine, Synchronicity....a few of the GREAT Police albums..
Me 2 i love these video’s and what makes this song great!! Dont understand this blocking, these video’s make me wanna buy the album
Rick… I love your emerging vision for the channel as a non-musician but an absolute music addict. You also help me comprehend the intricacy of the music that blows me away, but I could never clearly articulate why. I also think … based on watching you & musicians vibe on each other… that speaking to them on the level you do is something they get super stoked about. Keep it up.
Yes, Rick -- your interviews are gold. Make them your top priority, because these people aren't going to be around forever. If you can fit in some "What Makes This Song Great" vids, all the better. IMO the more people like Ron and Pat that you interview is going to open the door for others (you probably just missed a chance to talk to Chick Corea, but Herbie Hancock would be awesome).
Poetic justice, seeing Rick make the most awesome interviews after getting blocked by the music industry. Way to go Rick! You're redefining the online music learning experience. Congrats!
I loved the interview with Sting and Dominic Miller. I felt that he really opened up to you about his creative process and it seemed more like a conversation between friends than an interview. Great work.
rick...you got sting to give the best interview ive ever seen him give. he is one of my alltime faves. thank you for the interview
Hi Rick, I'm from Ecuador .. very fan of Sting .. he came to Quito in 2.014 and did an amazing concert, i was with my daughter in the front row. Congratulations for the interview you did to Sting ... very natural and spontaneous .. Keep going !!
Can you believe it? Seal , Sting Pete Frampton ,Joni Mitchell, Brian May. God that is amazing. well done you.
I love your “after the video” live streams. I like hearing about things that weren’t captured on camera, and behind the scenes type of stuff.
It was amazing that you didn’t have any cards or notes but the interview was so lively, spontaneous and full of specific facts about Sting’s songs.
How incredible that must feel to be able to say, “Sting s a fan of the channel”. That is so awesome, Rick. You deserve it; absolutely love all your content!
Wow! I loved your Sting interview. They were so gracious with their time and frankness.
It is wonderful that you are so respected Rick that legends like Sting and Brian May open their doors to you.
Music brings joy. Thank you from an Aussie fan. …now…back to the Beato Book.
Danny Q was much much more than just a guitar tech. He is an overall audio tech, Synclav operator, associate producer and facilitator of all things happening to support Sting. He is an amazing guy who has seen it all. Glad to hear him being recognized.
According to the producer Hugh Padgham in an interview he would also on occasion "fix" Stings bass parts if Sting refused to do another take or to drop in to fix a mistake.
Bill Bruford would be a good interview and he is in the North East, is a unique drummer because he played jazz and rock, and Neil Peart and Dan Carey both say he inspired them.
Great idea - my first concert he was with Crimson opening for ELO
Rick your deep knowledge of Sting's work across decades is astounding and of course then, this would set up the trust level that you acheived .. and have brought this wonderful interview giving all new insight for all of us, who have even been singing Roxanne since the day it came out
The fact that Sting's publicist reached out to YOU.... is such a huge deal and shows the caliber of your channel and how much it is respected in the music industry. And no one deserves it more. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the ear training course and so excited to start!
Your interview with Sting was 10/10. Thank you Rick Beato. I'm 52 and grew up listening to Synchronicity. Really a great interview!
What I loved about the interview is how it felt like just a few musicians having a good conversation. It’s what I like about this format and a lot of podcasts in general. I never watch mainstream or TV interviews because they feel like over produced commercials, where you don’t learn anything🤷♂️
At the very end of that interview Sting says, that was an interesting conversation - exactly. I've definitely learned tons from this channel. Love it!
You deserve all the success. Its refreshing to see intelligent music talk and interviews.
Just hearing you say you would love to arrange interviewing Stevie Wonder just makes me go weak at the knees!!! I hope this can happen at some stage. That would be so magical.
$$$
This dude over here casually doing some of the most important / best interviews of legendary musical minds ever!
The thing about musicians opening up when you interview about music , is that first you have the knowledge necessary to talk to them intelligently about the music, secondly your asking questions that the Star types like Sting never hear from a regular interviewer !!! I think you've done the music industry a major service in your videos by talking about the music in a bery deep way !! Keep up the great work Rick !!
Rick you're upping your game constantly . . . . your channel reins supreme in spite of your humility ... Kudos and thank you for all your hard workmanship . Stay true and take care sir
Phil Collins would be a great interview.
Or Peter Gabriel.
Or interview the artists with their own youtube channels to foster cross promotion. Jackson Browne's channel is hot right now.
My favorite moment was when Sting said something along the lines of, "A guitar riff doesn't make a song."
A really good interview/conversation, Rick.
Ohhh, maaan! I just love your straight forward attitude channelled by your genuine love for music. I find you a SINCERE person - both in terms of communication and your PASSION - for music AND for people. I can't be your customer - since you probably target rather more talented individuals than myself. But I share your above mentioned passions. Cheers from Poland.
Rick I’ve got to say the Sting interview is the best interview I’ve ever witnessed. The intelligent questions you asked from a musician’s perspective allowed for a higher level of conversation and a deeper insight into the genius of this incredibly creative man.
It's a great idea. I'd like to see more jazz musicians: Sonny Rollins, Benny Golson, George Benson...
Al Di Meola
Yes Sonny Rollins is a very intelligent man and has a huge legacy. Saw him live at age 81 and he was incredible. Also would like a Bill Frisell interview.
My favourite interview was the Ron Carter one.
The Sting interview was very insightful, you did a good job letting the interview feel organic.
You need to interview Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins, Tony Banks etc. You would do such fine and respectful interview which each of them!
The interview with Sting and Dominic was one of the all time best interviews ever. Even Sting clapped his hands at the end and said "nice conversation" and both guys were genuine and honest. You definitely set the bar on interviews with this one Rick.
Maybe you can do a video about the late Chris Kent, he was my favorite session bass player that passed at a young age of 44.
I totally enjoyed your Sting interview. I was totally captivated from the beginning to the end. I think one reason why is that I was living vicariously through you watching the interview.
it's nice to be alive during this era:
Rick Beato's era
Sting interview was a victory Rick. I think both your guest felt really comfortable. Sting can be guarded but you smashed down the walls. Amazing.
That was a master interview, best ever with Sting. You know your stuff and I think Sting was impressed that you knew so much about his music and music. I was waiting for Sting to invite you into his crew.
The interview with Sting was great, Rick. Your profound knollege of his music and your love for it made him and Dom open in a wunderful very special way.
I am genuinely so happy for Rick. I love his channel even when I don’t understand everything he’s saying about music. I know Rick knows what he’s saying and his enthusiasm for sharing his passion makes me more passionate about music. I wish Rick was my music teacher but I’ll take him now because I almost guarantee I wouldn’t have appreciated his efforts nearly as much.
It was an intelligent interview, Rick guided the interview the whole time by mixing technical questions and comments with an assorted Police and personal questions. With a guy like Sting that might not be an easy task! Very enjoyable interview, mostly for people like me, who practically grow up listening to The Police and Sting's music!
I continue to think about the Sting interview days after watching it. So inspiring.
It was really incredible. I'd be a bit nervous speaking with Sting! If you get Jimmy Page or John Paul Jones one day. That would be amazing! Keep it up Rick!
And Robert plant. Just get the whole band. Except John bonham. Rip
thumbs up for JPJ !
There are five musicians I hope that Rick gets to interview and their names are Plant, Page, Jones, Gilmore and Waters. Wait, better add six: Trower.
I just bought your Ear Training Course. I've been looking for something like this, and after watching your videos, it made sense as a way to not only improve myself, but also to support what you're doing. Thank you Rick, please continue to do what you do.
You got the sunburn of a lifetime watching Sting and The Police in 1983. I saw Sting in Gothenburg, Sweden Dec 30, 1981. The temp that evening was 30’ below zero, Fahrenheit or Centigrade. It was an awesome concert and a stunning, clear night.
I know this sounds stupid, but watching the sting interview it was like a music teacher asking the questions to the stars, And they are looking at each other and thinking fuck he knows more than we do.
I'd love to hear you interview some famous 80s synth musicians. Like Wakeman, Rhodes, Hammer, Eno, Dolby, or Horn.
oh god yes Thomas Dolby!
Ralf Hütter
Peter Gabriel and Tony Levin would be really interesting too, or even Genesis/Phil Collins
15:07 This is the key to what makes Rick Beato so good at what he does. Everybody has seen interviews with musicians where the interviewer obviously knows nothing about the artist's music. But Rick obviously does knows about the artist's music. The musicians understand that when they are talking to Rick. Rick's interviews are the best because he asks the best questions.
Sting loosened up! It was an amazing interview. Well done Rick! You did that! He enjoyed YOU!
It was a great discussion/interview. Loved it. It seemed like a bit of a nervous start (understandably) but quickly relaxed into an interesting conversation. Well done, Rick, I hope you are pleased with it.
I have un fathomable amounts of respect for Rick’s work and cause. Just amazing.
Beato is now the Rogan of UA-cam musicologists. I've been following Rick for about 3 or 4 years - Sting, a whole lot longer - and this interview is why Beato is the new Rogan. I think when I subscribed, Rick had around 50 odd thousand, so now he's a 2.5 mill, I am so happy for him because he really does prove that if you've got something to say that is original, there are millions of us out here only too ready and willing to consume first-class content. Well done, Rick!
The great STING was really impressed on how much Rick knew about reading music and music expertise, he really enjoyed this professional interview . ❤️❤️❤️
