The final part of the 'From Our Family To Yours' story, 'The Gift' is now available to watch: bit.ly/TheGiftChristmasAD ❄️
While times change and people grow, beloved family traditions make lifelong memories that cross generations and hold us together, especially over the festive period.
Lola and her granddaughter share a love of Disney and Christmas crafting, but over time their yearly ritual of making star lanterns begins to fade away. Looking back into Lola’s past and seeing her grandmother’s much-loved Mickey Mouse inspires her granddaughter to create a festive surprise that lights up her Christmas morning and renews their special bond. We hope you enjoy this special Christmas video, From Our Family To Yours.

This Made me cry so so much. I'm not from the Philippines but I'm from Bolivia and that building you can see when the grandma feels like she's back to her homecountry is so so similar to that one Iwas used to see in Santa Cruz de la sierra, la Plaza 24 de septiembre. That's where all my family is and where my brother and I would go running to visit our grandpa at work. He would give us some money to buy ice cream, I'd always take "helado de chicle". Filipino Christmas tradition, there’s no other Christmas like a Filipino Christmas. That goes from September to December
Actually ends at January .... during Sunday of 3 kings... jesus visited by magi...
I'm curious as to why this is? Is it merely a marketing situation where retail discovered that they could motivate more sales if they extended the holiday season? When did this begin?
@@BegsYourPardon Good point. I never wondered but now I’m curious to know too!
@@BegsYourPardon I think it’s one thing but then malls only respond to people’s behavior. No one really know when it started, I think being a country wifh mostly Catholics play a big part in it, also Filipinos love to celebrate holidays especially together with family and we love to have countdowns before big celebrations. It’s like our brain is hardwired to think of the months ahead of Christmas to buy gifts, put up the Christmas tree etc. Also crops/ ingredients needed for the usual foods that are served during Christmas such as puto bumbong are harvested within the months of September- December (I think).
That’s based on my research. Lol
Coz I asked the same question years ago. 🤗
Traditionally, it starts with the season of Advent and ends until the Feast of Jesus' Dedication in the Temple.
The Church culminates Christmas on the fEAST of Epiphany or 3 Kings to coincide with the Christmas day of the Eastern Catholics. Eastern Catholics never celebrate Dec. 25 as Christnas but celebrate it on Jan.6 or according to first sunday of January.
What an amazing representation of the Philippines! What a surprise to see from Disney! Those stars did it for me, bawling 😭 🇵🇭

@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN dude, a lot of people don't even celebrate christmas religiously lol, they celebrate it for fun (just like easter). regardless of whether god exists or not, christmas is about being with your family and having fun! i've seen you in every comment thread saying god is fake and whatever but that's beside the point. the cartoon was about family and the lola's journey far from home; her trying to revitalize her granddaughter's "filipino-ness" and rekindle their relationship as family. it talks nothing about the existence (or lack thereof) of god. no one was even talking about god before you commented!
i, like you (im assuming - your name says atheist republican and you clearly want all of religion to disappear) don't believe in theism and the presence of an almighty deity, but comment-spamming tens of barely religious (because no one mentioned a single thing about god) comment threads with atheist beliefs is one of the most ignorant things i've ever seen; and i'm on Twitter frequently. maybe keep these things to yourself instead of trying to shut down obviously proud and happy commenters by directly challenging their beliefs when literally no one asked you to?

Tribute to Overseas Filipinos who won’t be spending Christmas with their families because they are working abroad. Tribute to Filipino nurses, doctors, sailors, helpers, IT etc. Merry Christmas.
I took it a different way. I don't think it's OFWs. Lola was a young girl in 1940. Right before WWII ended and when the Philippines was still a first-world nation - no bustling OFW industry yet.
It's about Lola emigrating and making a new life for she, her family and through to her grandchildren.
My parents were that generation. They and their friends who became their new famies "abroad" grew old, and many have passed away. And many, a lot more than I would have realized until it was happening, are too old to travel any more. They're alone at home but they won't let their kids and grandchildren know or see that. They instead smile and are being strong for them while they secretly feel abandoned and without an avenue to fix it themselves.
@@BegsYourPardon the Philippines was a war-torn country. Manila is the 2nd most destructed city in the world towards the end of WW2. Some of them take refuge to other country while some worked abroad. Fast forward year 2005. I do believe lola is either petitioned by her family (ofw) to go abroad or she took refuge after the war.
Most likely, she was petitioned to go abroad. The meaning of this advert, wherever you are, it feels home when you are with your family. Family is everything. Especially in UK and US, most of their health workers came from the Philippines. Even Prime Minister of UK acknowledged that this time of pandemic. Make a wish ⭐️ Merry Christmas all
@@dansky03 My father was in the middle of the Battle of Manila. He would have been 9 in 1940. He's a multiple doctorate as was my mother. They got to the US on their own - separately, and met in the US. Because they were in-demand. The OFWs happened after their time, but Lola is their generation. The OFW nurses situation may have started in the 80s but it didn't skyrocket and become like a huge thing until the late 90s/early 2000s. My folks petitioned other relatives since the 50s and 60s whom mostly started being able to come over in the 70s through now, with much better luck depending on their degree. Of my parents' generation, based on their peers, pretty much everyone was a high-degree professional. If they weren't, they were married to one. Then the next batch, which were the ones' petitioned, jump-started the OFWs. I mean, I guess the Lola character could have been petitioned but spent another 30ish years before she moved out West, but that would mean Lola's children most likely would have been kids of the 70s/80s which would be old enough for the granddaughter, except, that house looks like grandma's house, of a woman her age, even in 2005, and not her own kids' house. It looks like she brought herself over on her own and made a home. I'm pretty sure this story isn't an OFW situation, although, they can appreciate this story as well. OFWs tend to go back. The grandma, the granddaughter and that house looks like the result of permanently moved, rather than OFW, and the implied value of items scattered in the house suggests Lola (and her husband) had higher incomes than an OFW would between settling and sending money back.
Love and respect to all of my Filipino brethren around the world. Mabuhay!🇵🇭💯👊

A parol is an ornamental, star-shaped Christmas lantern from the Philippines. The design of the parolevokes the Star of Bethlehem that guided the Three Kings to the manger. It also symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and the Filipinos' hope and goodwill during the Christmas season.
Seems like a Spanish tradition. Since Spain had the Philippines as a colony for a time, that seems likely.
The Parol is synonymous with Christmas in the Philippines, in the same way in that the Christmas Tree is synonymous for Christmas in the West.
The Parol is a Filipino Symbol of Christmas and it has become iconic.
@@525Lines by the way for you claiming that it’s a Spanish tradition, actually a Filipino street vendor named Francisco Estanislao made the first one in 1908. So it’s a Filipino custom, not Spanish.

Come to think of it the lola (grandmother in filipino) may had a rough childhood because in 1941 thats where the japanese invaded the philippines and world war 2 started. Its crazy to think that maybe during the war she used her mickey mouse doll to comfort herself and think of a time when things were normal (it's also crazy to think that the doll was given to her during december 1940 and japan invaded philippines in December of 1941. Her life flashed before her eyes. ) . She held on to that doll after the war and that's why it was so special to her.
my hearstrings...a very good backstory
Oh please, don't put too much drama... we can't keep our eyes dry already😆
You know what's more crazy is before the Imperial Japanese made it into Manila they already attacked the Pearl Harbour just 10 hours ago. they decided to attacked the Philippines because it was under US at that time (but I think it's also the fact that they literally planned to overule the whole Asian continent).
I miss my grandma (mother side) she died in 2021 this reminds of her again😢
I cried after seeing the advertisement. Even though it is brief, it is lovely.
The deep relationship between a loving Lola and her granddaughter never failed to warm the hearts of Filipinos wherever they may be. I specially like the traditional hand blessing by the Dad as the young Lola held his hand in respect. This is amazing! Kudos to Disney, the artist, the animators, and everyone who put this short memorable clip together.

Watching this made me cry❣️ if you're a Filipino you'll understand why? We were hit by 4 consecutive strong typhoon yet even a single can of sardines will make us very happy and will put a smile on our faces throughout the day. The video shows how content we Filipino's are, how we cherish our elders and the things that people had given to us.
There is no god
Did anyone else think Mickey Mouse's ear coming off foreshadowed her grandmother's death before reading the comments? I thought the grandmother didn't pick up the teddy as she was close to death and went upstairs to peacefully pass away in her sleep. I also thought that the grandaughter fixing the teddy and creating the stars was an attempt to help keep her grandmother's memories alive due to dementia. Of course, this was all before I read the comments and learnt about what everything stood for culturally!
What a beautiful advert. 😍
I love how Disney incorporated Filipino values and traditions, and the depiction of Christmas for Filipinos. Mano-po is an integral part of being a Filipino - it symbolizes respect for elders. The Christmas lanterns, or well known as "parol" in the Philippines, symbolizes light and beginnings. It was derived from the guiding star that brought the three kings towards the baby in the manger.
Many kids grow up under the supervision of their grandparents; we call them lola and lolo. Our grandparents are considered as the foundation of our family. Different from other cultures, we take care of them as they grow old, making sure they felt loved and special.
Passing of old things, may it be clothes, shoes, toys, dinnerware, and etc., is an ongoing tradition for Filipinos. Anything that have sentimental value will be passed down to generations. It teaches the younger generations how to appreciate things that lasts and the memories it holds. Also, hoping it would give them the same wonderful experience.
Thank you Disney for showcasing what Christmas is for us Filipinos.

Not looking forward to a Christmas without her but I’ll enjoy it because she’d want me to. Hope everyone has a good one!
There is no god
Hope you have a good one too!
I can't believe Disney considered us to show our Christmas present. Mabuhay Philippines !! And thank you Disney for showcasing our own culture and belief of Christmas 🇵🇭
mmm
@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN there is a God. Now shut up and respect religion
@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN Okay kid🙄👍!!!
@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN dumbass if God didn’t exist then none of us would exist. Accept reality. My great grandfather was in WWII and he witnessed his cousin get killed in front of him. He prayed for God to protect him and a tree fell in front of him. The Japanese avoided him because of that. And if there was no Jesus or God, Christmas wouldn’t exist either. Be like Daz Black and respect religion.
@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN Respect other people's religion!!!!
This short film also shows the importance of Filipino Nurses around the world especially during this time of Pandemic. In the Video, if you observe those picture frames, Lola was a Nurse.
@Travis Rabble iii
It's interesting to read here in the comments that Lola is the grandmother, I thought it was the little girls name
@Hugh Janus
what are you talking about?
@@angelika_munkastrap4634 Lola is the filipino word for grandmother :)

Sadly, a dying tradition of Parol Making for Filipinos abroad. I’m gonna make one this year... Thanks Disney!

I lost my Lola 2 weeks ago...Disney, THANKYOU for making this advert. I really felt like this was a sign of her. Us Filipinos are honoured!!!
Somewhere in the Disney creative team family lineage was a Lola that looked just like this. They were spot on
Filipino children are often left to their grand parents because the parents need to work abroad 😢 this just hits different thank you Disney ❤️
@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN you’re not welcome here

More than this is a Filipino Christmas theme, i think the message is about the importance and love for family. Right now the world is in deep hole, by that we realized the importance of valueing time and family. WE CAN DO THIS WORLD, LETS FIGHT TOGETHER LIKE A FAMILY. ADVANCE MERRY CHRISTMAS

For ppl that are wondering why it says “Lola” on the card to the grandma it’s bc that’s how u say grandma in Filipino (cuz I know a bit and I’m half Filipino)
im filipino
Yup
I can reassure that
Yaz that's how we call our grandma here in Philippines😂
also because in Spanish it's "abuela", & in Fukkien (the dominant Chinese dialect) it's either "a ma" (阿媽, paternal) or "gua ma" (外媽, maternal)

Its my first time spending christmas without my grandparents
Im so sad that they cant be with us this christmas
I remember when me and my grandpa used to get bamboo to make the scaffold parol and then my grandma and my 3 cousins will make them and we will hang them outside our houses
Ot makes me cry every time i remember it
I hope they are having a good christmas this year
I HOPE DISNEY WOULD GIVE FILIPINOS A CHANCE TO SHARE THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS IN THE PHILIPPINES. THE LITTLE GIRL WOULD BE PERFECT TO LEAD THE ROLE JUST LIKE THE LITTLE BOY IN COCO. THE PHILIPPINES IS THE ONLY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD WITH THE LONGEST CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS! CELEBRATED FROM SEPTEMBER TO DECEMBER. AND THIS WOULDN'T HIGHLIGHT A TYPICAL WESTERN TRADITION WITH SANTA CLAUS, ELVES, REINDEERS AND SLEIGHBELLS BUT THE HARMONY OF THE CHILDREN DOING "CAROLLING" WITH THEIR DIY INSTRUMENTS (THIS COULD BE A HAPPY AND COLORFUL MUSICAL SCENE FEATURING TAGALOG CHRISTMAS SONG), PAROL MAKING, AND OUR TRADITION CALLED "SIMBANG GABI" THAT WOULD DEFINITELY DO MAGIC TO SHOW HOW FILIPINOS CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS.
True..
just one tip, if you can, don't comment in all caps but nice comment tho i would like to see that happen
Don't forget the noche buena especially Lechon and hamon
As much as I like your comment but please don't write in caps bruh it kinda hurts my eyes
Stop yelling. Lol!😂
Who else watched it again.... and again... and again? Why am I doing this to myself? 😭
Beautiful ad. Merry Christmas everyone!
Made me cry the best, thank you Disney hope someday I can work with you and make other people realise how much family means and how to support them and celebrate Happy festivals with them, thank you for making me realise. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank You Disney for showing the Filipino Christmas and the life of Overseas Filipino workers abroad.
If anyone is wondering what the song is playing it’s “Love Is a Compass by Griff.” You can find it on Apple Music or Spotify. Take care.
Thank you!
omg thank u
Hope for the song to be available here in youtube
@ATHEIST REPUBLICAN please shut up you've been repeating the same word every time you comment 😑
It’s in the description. But thank you.
Ahh yess...., the only country that celebrates christmas for 4 months every year,

I'm British Asian (British-born South Asian), and this looks so much like me, my mum, and our home. The hair texture and style, the brown skin, the striped cream wallpaper, and those wooden tables. With the Disney, John Lewis, McDonalds, and Lidl 2020 Christmas ads, it's good to finally see Asians represented.
Even though I am not Filipino or Christian I kind of want to do this every Christmas. Can imagine it being such a wholesome experience with one's loved ones.

Read somewhere that Christmas of 1940 could be her last memory of a Happy Filipino Christmas. Japan invaded Philippines December the next year and she might have migrated to escape that.
Wow. You didn't have to hurt me like that

Yup agree... Based on the background I guess war was already evident at that time...since our flag was raised upside down... Indicating for war over peace. I love it overall informative but emphatic
Make this a movie please just like Mexico's Dia de los Muertos with Coco.

there's a trailer of a movie about filipinos i don't know if i'm mistaken i remembered it's about a child that floats.
Having lost my grandma earlier this awful year made me cry watching this, but I still replay it all the time because it's so beautiful and reminds me how I used to spend these times with her.
Religion is a lie and a very harmful ideology
Im 46, I still do the mano to my parents and elders.. even to all the titas and titos I newly meet. I wouldnt miss the hand of the priest after every mass i attend. Funny thing is I am in California, only Filipino priests understand. Hearing “God bless you or Kaawaan ka ng Diyos” is soo heart warming . I taught my children the same . Merry Christmas to all! Specially to every Filipino spending pasko away from our Inang Bayan. God bless!!!🙏🙏🙏

My dad used to make parols when I was a kid. He wasn't an easy man to get along with but this video brings back so many precious moments of my childhood with him before we migrated to the states. I'm now a 46-yeat-old mom of four, and this made me tear up so much. Thank you for bringing back a piece of my old home and endearing memory of my dad.

The world will also have a glimpse of distinctively Filipino values.

My mom just sent this to me, and I started sobbing. She and my dad have lived in the US for 32 years, and in that time has seen her siblings and parents only a handful of times, and my dad's estranged with his sister. I realize now how homesick they must feel, limited by income and debt early in their marriage and unable to visit home, and now the separation due to COVID.. with my brother and i moved out, i can't imagine how lonely they must be. I'll have to make this christmas a good one.
