Today we are doing a review of the GWF1000 Frogman, the last of the OLD SCHOOL GShock frogman models before Casio started implementing sensors and bluetooth.
A premium japan made professional ISO certified Diver's watch from Casio, The Frogman lineup has a cult following among watch enthusiasts, and the GW-F1000 is one of the best out there. The module is an old school solar atomic, meaning it is self charging and Self adjusting.

I don't see the "ugliness" of this watch.
I mean, I do. It’s hideous. That being said, it’s a massively important watch in the G Shock lineup and that’s what makes it special. It’s as attractive as a boil on the ass, though.

I'm a watch fan, I'm a G-shock fan, and I'm a diving enthusiast.
I've only recently discovered the frogman thing, never heard of them before but I'm super interested now.
Frogman is, to my knowledge, the ONLY atomic dive-certified watch. For me it was the perfect storm.

+ Digital
+ Atomic
+ Solar
It's the only one of its kind. There's no competition with these qualities.
What I don't get is if deph is very important why doesn't the Frogman measure it?

Yep that’s what happened to me as well, I ended up getting the gwf-d1000. After so many years of its release I couldn’t believe how comes I didn’t noticed this piece of art. Escaped me completely, but I ended up throwing the fishing rod to Japan and picked one up brand new through chrono24, I’m so surprised that they still make them. Unless I’m mistaken, please let me know, because a lot of sellers had them marked as new. The materials that’s been used in this watch is absolutely crazy, carbon fibre strap, sapphire crystal glass and stainless steel screw back, I mean what else do you want? Would have been extra nice with a gps though. This watch gwf-d1000 I think it’s a combined watch between the original rangeman 9400 the gpw 2000 and the gulfmaster. If Commando and Predator was made again in no doubt Arnold would have chosen the gwf-d1000.

Nothing beats classical Casio square G-Shock (especially GW-5000U) but this watch is cool! No doubts!
Now and in the past, Casio is one of the few watch companies which managed to designed and produced so many great watches. Watches which are not only cool (and beautiful) looking but there are extremely practical, tough and well designed. Perfect blend. How not to love them?

the frogman series has always been my favourite.
I already have the 1000-1JF before I discovered your video. And while watching your video, I can't stop laughing as your every word on the journey to get the Frog rings 100% true. I have to confess that when I first saw the Frogman I swore to myself I would never get this overpriced super-ugly watch. Now it's one of the most beautiful. Is this a spell?

I luv how one side of the Frogman watch protrudes out more than the other side, interesting design that looks really Good.
I have the GWF-D100B Frogman and it's brilliant. Incredibly robust and the tough solar and compass are perfect for watersports. The build quality is so good that it cannot be described in words. The ONLY thing I hated about this watch was the strap (that awful overhang!). To solve that problem, I bought Jays and Kays adapter and attached a Marine Nationale strap and I believe I've finally created the perfect military/outdoor watch possible.

Now in my 40’s I have moved on to “adult” metal GShocks. My latest favorites are the MTG- M900 digital and my big boy, the Ana/digi GST-S110.

Nice review, If I was still actively diving, I would definitely have one of these in my collection. Now, I am more drawn to smaller G-Shocks. My must haves are solar charging, Multiband 6 connectivity, with Bluetooth connectivity being a bonus. Unfortunately, G-Shock seems to be determined to price their watches out of my price range. I am not saying they are not worth what they are charging, just that I can’t afford them.
I love Frogman so much, I have two of this model, one is for my daily use, and one for my collection.
I’m not a fan of the latest design of frogman, I kinda hated it until now.
I hope they bring back the old design in future.
I got the GW202 some time ago and unexpectedly, I really like this watch, especially with the small size of my wrist. This GW202 still looks right on my hand because of its small size.

@@user-cc4ey9mg4k I bought mine on eBay from Japan. Had to buy it from Japan as there’s none new in Britain. It’s a real one though. Watch out for fakes, but I don’t think there’s that many fakes going about anyway. Mine was £147 all told. Superb watch. 👍🇬🇧

Have to say I love it. I've been thinking about getting this or possibly a Wave Ceptor for the multi band time keeping. I don't think it's ugly, but then again I also don't think the DW-290 Mission Impossible I got recently is ugly either! Btw, I did refer to your tutorial on that as I couldn't figure out how to change the time from 24h to standard. Thanks to you and your lesson! 👍👍👏

I have had this watch for 4 years and it's freaking awesome. Bought it from Japan and it's still perfect. Catches atomic clocks no issue. The American made garbage never works for the atomic sync!!

Congrats on the weight loss journey! I recently experienced some health stuff and opted to wear a fitbit rather than my g shocks. So I know how it can be to make that sacrifice.
That being said, if anyone likes this watch but it is out of their reach or smaller wrists like myself and Watch Geek, might I suggest checking out the GW-7900. You lose the offset watch face but retain the tide, moon and multiband/atomic features. It was my gateway watch into the G-Shock family and I cherish it... I can still feel the call of the GWF-1000 even with that price tag and my scrawny wrists.... CASIO!!!!
Who hides their collection of dirty mags? I have mine on display in order of collection Lol. Anyway, I love this watch. Very very cool and still worth picking up today. I grabbed mine from G-Shock Soho in New York for around $800 years ago, cracking watch.

Hi! I love your videos. You're one of the best Casio amateurs out there, always providing insightful and precise information with no bullshit.
Maybe you'll help me find out the truth about Casio's MUD RESIST models. They say some models are mud and dust resistant, but I wasn't able to find what that meant exactly. They stay absolutely vague on their website. I tried to contact them via various social media, and I never had a real answer. Only marketing bullcrap. What does "mud resist" mean? How is it tested? Were are the datasheets, standards, certifications? What does it REALLY mean??

Amazing piece of engineering. There is a video on Yotube with one going 1000m under water en coming up working. I sold mine though. it's not as extreme as a D1000 and not as wearable as GW-8200 or 8230.
D1000 super long strap is dead ugly.

One of my favorite Gshock watches.
As a diver I can only see 1 good frogman in the range, that's the one with the depth meter. All others are just digital casio's to me.

The g7900 was good enough to the frogman with the tide and moon phases and alot less of the cost. Even grabbing the tough solar model makes it pretty close.

I have been tempted on several occasions to pick one of these up. But to scratch my itch I gotta a Rangeman instead.
There are second hand ones available from Japanese auction sites for a lot less.

First of all, technically speaking G-Shock Seaman is the OTHER model that has ISO Certified Diver apart from Frogman. Secondly, G-Shock Frogman is NOT the only model that came without negative screen, there are many dicontinued model that never came with negative screen for example Antman, Gaussman, etc.
You should try the DW-9900 frogman from 2001. It’s ideal for smaller wrists.

I actually think it's quite a handsome watch. Quirky, sure, but nice looking to my eye. I actually owned this model, but ended up selling it as it was massive on my wrist and looked goofy and out of place. I wish it was smaller.

I have more frogs than any one man would ever need😅 the classic were the best size and have been all over the world on my wrist, jungle sand and sea and never failed me, the newer frogs are getting too big for a practical every Day wear and snag up on webbing and anything they can but with all the additional funtions size will always increase I guess 😊 DW-8200 cant go wrong, the best ever...😅😅

Nice recap! However, the 8200 series Frogman is more friendly to my 6-inch wrist. Check out the GF8235 if you can find one. They look ten times better than the GWF1000 😛
