Can I just say, I think this is a fantastic idea for a series. Your approach to AoS is so upbeat, positive, and really focuses in the joy to be found in the game, and that's the perfect approach to this sort of video. Looking forward to more!
I LOVE that you are doing this, it makes getting into AoS so much better. Soulblight, along with Daughters of Khaine, where the two armies to drag me in. I made my Soulblight Gravelords themed after the Cauldronborn from the Black Cauldron / Chronicals of Prydain. So my skeletons look old and grimy as hell, but are dripping with green slime.
I dig this. It's what you need to watch to get inspired about maybe starting a new faction or just start playing. I used to google this a lot and sometimes the message is kinda lost in a point-list, but hearing someone (and certainly someone as passionate as Doug) talk about them and explain does it far better for me.
@@floriannarratio8062 just in the Faceboom groups, so it could be wishlisting. The general consensus is that it would be either Maggotkin or Beasts since those are the two oldest Chaos battletomes
Maws for elites (unless you go troggs) gitz for horde. Lore is important for.some, think about which ones is more your kinda people. Finally and probably most important hobby! What you wanna paint? Color and models collect? Super important.
its a wierd box to me with the old skelletons 1 unique skeleton knight and a set of blood knights isnt it? cant say i loke the look of the old armoured skellies over the new ones.
Love this! New to AoS myself coming from 40k, got myself the start collecting box of soulblight gravelords because who doesn't like skeletons on skeletal steed's, figured out my colour scheme and then bought the battletome, it turned out I'm doing a legion of blood army without knowing it, now have 1000pts worth, just started painting haha, keep up the great work!
Just finding this video. No real experience with table top wargames, but I love D&D and fantasy games, in general. I just got into the painting hobby this year, working on my Heroquest rerelease set, and I've thoroughly fallen in love with it. Anyway, got interested in and picked up the Cursed City game, as well as the expansions; and I have to say the Soulblight are probably where Games Workshop will be getting the majority of my money! lol I dunno if I'll ever run a full army on a battlefield, but I love the aesthetic, I love the lore and the sculpts are just insanely impressive and satisfying to paint. Even the Hunters and other heroes designed to FIGHT them are among my favorite miniatures! 🤘😆
3 foot fabulous is a great phrase to describe army painting. That made me smile, and is worth repeating. P.s. the video tempted me to look at the army, once I'm done with Flesh Eater Courts!
Yeah I love vampires and undead in fantasy, and curse of strahd is my favorite d&d campaign. So when I saw this faction I knew that I needed to play them, so thanks for the great video.
There are definitely compelling and competitively viable non-hoardy SBGL builds. Blood Knight Kastelai builds, Manster Mash Avengori, Nagash. The faction's super diverse and has builds for more or less whatever you'd like to do. At least, so long as what you want to do isnt shooting, they don't do that.
Useful video, I was already bought into soulblight but this still had some food for thought and highlighted important aspects of the faction I didn’t really appreciate
Mine are deathrattle mainly, Heroes of Gallowmeer, led by Sir Daniel Fortesque. After earning his spot in Valhalla for saving Gallowmeer, his eternal rest has been interrupted again, and now he must lead the fallen warriors of his realm through a heroic campaign, to earn each and every one a place in Valhalla, and free themselves from the curses of undeath.
My vampires are of the Dellamorte dynasty, they are the keepers of the Necropolis of Buffalorum... Buffalorum Cemetary is also home to my Nighthaunts, Francesco Dellamorte leads my Nighthaunt army.
I have a question for this faction: I recently purchased a package of Deathrattle Skeletons, but not for playing Warhammer but adding to my HeroQuest and Advanced HeroQuest inventory. Thing is that I play with the thought of actually playing Warhammer one day and now I am concerned, that I could choose the false weapon options for later game play while assembling them. Is it really relevant and if so how and what is furthermore a good option to go with?
Very interested in zombies, deathrattle stuff, corpse carts, etc. Kinda uninterested in the vampires. I’m wondering if it might be smarter to just play Nighthaunt or OBR and ally some Soulblight infantry into my army. Any thoughts?
I recently began making a Soulblight army, Kastelai Dynasty. Finding Blood Knights for retail price has been as difficult as getting my PS5 was, hahaha. Luckily, I have most of my army collected and I've been painting it every night after work. Isabella von Carstein is in my army as a generic Vampire Lord because I love her sculpt too much not to use her.
I have been thinking on the lore for the soulblight I’m doing, and didn’t know accurate it was going to be but the idea was to have the vampires look as if they were alive so long as the fed and if they didn’t they would lose some of their death magic within them. And the void that would be left would be filled by the magic of the realm(these vampires are going to be operating in the realm of life). So my question is what happens when magical beings are in a realm that opposes their magical nature?
Hmm maybe they have to get really good at it ro survive. So they could focus on magic more? Or you could say for lore only the strongest vamps survive and have an army with less vamps but more summons. You could really use anything made up depending on what you wanna collect.
I think the topic of does the play style match the theme and you really sold me with the gravelords. I’ve always wanted to be a Necromancer no matter what game. And I feel this will fill my wish. Damn can’t wait to get started
I'd love to see stormcast eternals! They need are the warband marketed to new players more than any other and I'm sure we could all benefit from knowing whether the most affordable warband is for us
As much as I woudld like some tips on how to start collecting them and building... I realised that many armies can be started in very differnet ways, depending on what style of play you would prefr... since FEC SC + 3 x BK is great start for elite type, but SBGL SC is better for skeleton-themed list, when support with 2-4 boxes of new skeletons
So basicaly i am in love with this faction since i play necrons in 40k so the asthetic is prety much the same. Mindless legions of thralls check Few Nobles that may or not be totaly insane check Spooky Scary Skeleton vibes check I am starting my army after my exams are over
I can't understand why the black coach isn't a usable for them. It says right in the flavor text that it's a powerful vampire or necromancer powering it

Hmm is soulblight gravelords a good choice for new player as first army? It seems they have a lot of important abilities that require units to be close to leader and I’m not sure if they are good choice. I was also thinking about starting stormcast or bcr because they are more straightforward but they are not as interesting as vampires….
Month old reaction but still. I'd just go for what you feel passionate about. Maybe you'll struggle a bit more as a beginner, but you'll learn how to play the faction eventually.
Tbf the units aren't pushovers either kritza is an absolute beast since if you die then As long as you roll 4+ on your dice then he just runs away and then can start over
Show me a list that doesn't include zombies or skeletons en masse and I'd play them. I have no desire to field 500 chaff. I wish there was a more focused vampire option, hopefully in 3E.
ooooo interesting choice! I'm a bit torn on that due to to the age of their book. I started with SBGL because its the most recent one, and was planning to do either LRL or wait on stormcast/kruelboyz next.
