Launi Larson Poor dear, but he will. I took in a former barn cat (I think) who showed up in my backyard out of the forest, surviving over a year on his own, through a harsh Canadian winter. He was so angry, attacking my other kitties, but wanted desperately to be loved. Now, he is the most loving cat, clean and clever cat, with only the occasional lapse of jealousy towards the others, but nobody's perfect.

if you have experienced bad things and have been on your own for a while, it is not surprising that you are initially suspicious of being hurt again for fear of it.and when you are able to regain the trust of an abused cat you'll have a true faithful companion for lifetime.

When a cat refuses to be social with other cats, there's sometimes absolutely nothing to be done. @@duczman76 It's good when you can peacefully usher your pet to the foot of the Rainbow bridge. Barney and Sallycat were eaten by a Panther. Her three sons were deeply traumatized. The Panther also took a run at Klio, our Doberman. This is what life is like living close to the Florida Panther Preserve.

I adopted a feral cat 4 years ago and she only hissed at me once: an even fainter half-hearted "haah" noise, and she has not swatted at me once. But she still keeps a 2 foot distance most of the time, purring as if she's getting her tummy rubbed if I just motion with my hand in the air. It's funny how these animals can become so attached in such a distant way.

    • @redgringrumboldt8983

You should not have adopted a feral cat. They are happier outside. If you want a cat that badly, go to a shelter. If after 4 years she still doesn't let her guard down, it should let you know that feral cats are feral for a reason.

    • @fuutubesukas

I have been feeding any cat that comes to my door since I moved here in 2012 and I've encountered all types of cats. I live in a townhouse that has many buildings with people moving in and out all the time and there have only been maybe 3 out of the 40+ cats that never did come around, but one, i still believe.. had a chemical imbalance he would come up to me rub on me paw at me to pet him and no matter where I pet no matter how short the pet was no matter how softly no matter how slowly he would always get me..and he'd get me GOOD. His name was Papa Smurf... Now I'm thinking he just hated his name 😂... Seriously though... I miss him and every other cat that's gone missing or gotten a home. I still have one female that will come up to my children and I to eat and let my daughter barely "pet" her once in a great while but she WILL NOT come inside. She's been around for about 4-5 years and just doesn't like to be touched... It's very sad and difficult not being able to show her love with touch. 😭 her name is Pirty

You didn't adopt a feral you adopted a stray with a lot of street smarts. Ferals are unadoptable and cannot be socialized. Strays are cats who have been dumped or gotten lost and have memory of human contact and work on trust again. Just because they came from the street doesn't automatically make them feral.

My grandfather rented houses ND would go by to check on them when tenants moved out to see what they left behind.
One house someone moved out and left behind a beautiful ful-bodied female Siamese cat.
We took her in, named her Chng, and had her for five wonderful years.
My mom, who was wardrobe mistress for the local little theatre, anyway they were doing a production of "Bell, Book and Candle", about a coven of witches (it was a '50's movie) and called for a cat. Ching was drafted.
Interesting story to this: when cast was doing photo shoots, Ching hopped on a stool with a look of "somebody take my picture", and somewhere is an 8"X 10" black and white photo of "our star".

My mother was the type of woman that went from one abuse relationship to the next and abandoned our pets on two occasions due to fleeing to a shelter or another state and always without a car. One of my moms tenants left behind a little old grandma kitty. Poor little thing... I felt so sad for her being left behind. She had mammary cancer. I took her home and we let her live out her life with us. She was so sweet and quiet. She did not like our other cats and kept to herself and was never any trouble. It was so sad when the time came to put her to sleep but at least we gave her a couple good years and she seemed at peace when she was with us. My cat is my world. She comforts me and wakes me from nightmares. She purrs and sits on my lap when I’m having heart problems. She kneeds my legs when I’m having a bad day and I’m crying. She’s my little miracle. And I’d do anything to make her happy. I try my best every day.
I rescued her from a shelter where she was surrendered because her “family” had a baby and that baby had shown signs of allergies towards cats. But she showed signs of heavy abuse. Her tail was broken in several areas. She was scared of men. And she cried when I was away for too long almost like she was having flashbacks from the world that she left behind. But with patience, love, and effort she found happiness. She feels safe in my arms. And she plays like a kitten everyday. She didn’t know how to when we first took her in. But it’s been 11 years since we got her and I wouldn’t change a second of it. She’s 13 and no matter what age she is, she’ll always be my baby.
Love is a cat. Please adopt. Please foster. Be patient. Be kind. Give love and you will receive it.

I"m so glad that poor baby got taken in and adopted; you can see the hurt and depression in his eyes at the beginning of the video. People who abandon animals don't deserve companion animals.

Somebody didn't just leave him to fend for himself.. someone used to smack him on the head, that's why he's scrunching his eyes up in fear every time he's presented with a hand. Poor little kitty

This is how I tamed my little bear cub Max. He was already 8 months when my neighbor trapped him on his farm in a live trap using peanut butter. He was terrified, but never hissed or growled. I kept him in the boiler room and would spend hours down there trying to socialize him. I started with welding gloves because I was afraid he'd bite me. He never did. I then would pet him bare handed hour after hour. He had the world's saddest little meow, but eventually he stopped hiding in the corner and started coming up to be petted. He then became our ambassador and now welcomes all new cats. He is quite literally the sweetest cat I've ever had. All it took was 3 months of love and patience.

My current cat was abandoned at the shelter by her owners when she became pregnant and was there for a year and a half. She is such a sweet girl and loves everyone. I got her and one of the kittens who had anxiety and they didn’t want to rehome without her mum. I can’t believe anyone could treat her so horribly. Good thing I don’t know who they are because there would be some serious yelling. At least they were more responsible than this lot and actually took her to the shelter rather than just abandoning her to fend for herself.

It's my experience that orange and white cats are the most loyal of all. They can have dog like loyalty, following you around the house, sleeping with you, waiting for you just outside the shower, etc..

I was adopted by an abandoned cat. I say it that way because that's exactly how it happened. We had seen each other on the apartment property and one day he jumped up on my patio fence, I looked at him he looked at me and that was that. This was 5 years ago and I couldn't be happier.
