I love this flatlock wave stitch. I use it in place of the regular wave stitch, even as an edge finish. I find the back behaves better and doesn't pull up the needle stitches. Thank you Gail, I love your videos.

I love this! Our local sewing center did a class using this stitch but I am so happy to have a video to review for threading!! I did this stitch on a placemat and got rave reviews from my sewing friends. I wish I could post a picture. I am so excited about this stitch!

Can you do this on a normal overlocker or is it done on a coverstitch machine
So excited to try this. I have a white speedylock 4 thread serger. Your explanation sound like my machine can do it. Thank you great video watched 10 times already.
Hi Joyce, the wavestitch is a Babylock machine stitch but you might be able to replicAte it manually on your machine. Keep me posted on your results!
@@GailPatriceDesign got it all threaded and it serged but no wave. What babylock do I need? Maybe just use my white for overclock and rolled hem.

Hi! I tried this technique today on my Babylock Enlighten serger. After making adjustments to stitch length and width, I think I got it. However the stitching doesn’t lay absolutely flat, just mostly flat. Also, I discovered I ca do the wave stitch using the left needle. Now I need some lessons on using some of the presser feet. Thank for your wonderful videos.👌
Hi Jean, I’ve always used the left needle and never had a problem. The stitch won’t be totally flat but when you press it (use a press cloth😉), it will look great! The wave stitch was developed by Babylock and is built into some of their higher priced models. Technically if you have tension adjustments on your machine, you can create a wave stitch but I’ve never had great results when I’ve tried it. It requires precise timing for even patterns. I just was practicing yesterday on the flatlock stitch I was using my old serger because my didn’t want to put the thread in my ports and found out it used In the needle lol 😂 took me 20 mins to figure it out on the evolution lol I wasted 3 hours on old funlock 006d lol

Fran Perks hi Fran, YEAH! I’m stitching on Babylock Triumph serger. Babylock has 4-thread sergers with the wave stitch also. It’s a gorgeous stitch and looks beautiful on garments too. Thanks for watching!

Fran Perks you won’t get a wave stitch but go to my Tip Clip on the Flatlock Stitch with the lace applicator foot. You’ll be able to do that one on your 1034D. If you don’t have the special foot, lock the blade. Let me know if you need help. Position the fabric fold just left of the right needle indicator ridge on toe of the foot. Let me know if you need help-thanks!

Does this wave stitch need to be sewn on a fold of fabric? Can you use it on the edge of 2 pieces of fabric put together wrong sides together? Love this flatlock wave for the inside edges of a 10 minute table runner!

The lace applicator foot is very versatile, so yes, it's a wonderful guide for your fabric edges. You should test to get the correct position for the guide. It's the most accurate (and easiest) way to get a perfect result!@@maryannduplaga6508

Hi Sweta, if you’re planning to use the wave stitch to finish the edges, you’ll want to use the regular wave stitch, not the flatlock version. And I would stitch each edge separately. Not sure how good the wave will look on a continuous corner. But if you want to experiment, try it out on scrap fabric. It might look fabulous! You know I love this stitch but now I am trying to do this stitch to attach a zipper. I tried using the cording foot for the zipper as suggested in another clip tip but not having much success. With the regular foot, I have better success. Maybe I am trying to combine too many techniques. Any suggestions?
Use the standard foot instead of the P5 foot. Thanks!
Gail, I have successfully mastered this beautiful flat lock wave stitch on woven fabric. I tried to use it on a ponte knit, setting my differential at 1.5 but, it’s just too tight to get it to lay flat. Any suggestions?
Hi Vicki, Ponte knit fabric is "beefy" and it is probably a little too thick to lay flat under the stitch. The wave flatlock is better suited to lighter weight knit and woven fabrics that don't consume as much space under the threads. My only suggestion would be to try moving the fabric slightly further left of the knife to see if it helps.Sorry not to have a perfect solution for you:-( But thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

Hi Alne, That's a great serger, but as far as I know, it won't do the wave flatlock stitch. But a reverse flatlock woven with ribbon or decorative fibers is a beautiful embellishment for any type of project. If you need help, let me know. Will give it a try, Question on different thing. am having trouble with threading the chain stitch on the evolution. which way does he thread go through the first guild inside out or outside in ,

Hi Eleanor, It's not a crazy question. If you're referring to the upright silver guide with the big hole, the thread goes from outside to inside. Can I create a 'Wave Stitch' on Baby Lock Victory. It doesn't have a 'Wave Stitch' selector.
Hi Leigh, you need the “wave” selector to do that stitch. The Victory doesn’t have that feature but you can do lots of other beautiful stitches. Thanks for watching !

And what if you don't have a lace applicator foot?
Hi Myrna, You can still definitely do this stitch. Try aligning your fabric fold with the right needle indicator ride on the toe of the presser foot and lock your knife. The position of the fold is variable depending on the thickness of the fabric. But try that suggestion first, then experiment moving the fold right or left. dcwatashi many of the techniques I show in Serger Tip Clips can be done on different brands and serger models. Babylock is the only brand with the wave stitch. But many have a variety of specialty feet and accessories that might look slightly different than mine, but work on the same principles. I’ll be happy to help you with any questions and figure out “work arounds” on your machine. I want anyone who owns a serger to love it as much as I do!
Gail Yellen Thanks, you’ve helped me before when I first got my Singer Serger. I don’t use it enough, sad to say. I remember someone saying that you shouldn’t put your sewing machine away because you wont’ use it. My serger is tucked away in a cubbyhole in one of those IKEA cube storage units. Guess it’s time to put it on my craft table!!
Ok, today’s the day to get your serger out, dust it off (of vacuum it’s out) and Serge something! In workshops I always say you have to practice to get better...and you will! (Isn’t that annoying?!)
