“War is where the young and stupid are tricked by the old and bitter into killing each other” - Niko Bellic Thanks for the video, gonna start watching it now.
People don't talk about Roman nearly enough. Niko arrives and five minutes after walking off the boat he has a roof over his head, a bed to sleep in and a job to make money from all thanks to Roman. Roman had nothing. It took him months to scrape together enough money to rent that shitty apartment, which Niko starts bashing as soon as he walks in, after sleeping under his desk in the depot. Roman slowly builds up his very own business and manages it himself. No doubt he ended up in debt because Vlad loaned him some money to rent the depot and buy his cabs at an extortionate rate. He's also made quite a few friends, that also become Niko's friends very quickly. Again, Roman originally had no one. You can certainly understand Roman's pain after seeing his depot and apartment go up in flames just days after Niko gets involved... However, Fun Fact: In GTA5 it's revealed through Life Invader pages that Franklin's cousin, Tavell Clinton once worked for Roman's cab company, and Niko is still working there. So the company is still operating during the events of GTA5. Perhaps after the events of GTA4 the cousins Bellic simply settled into a simple life of running the cab company together, just as Roman wanted.
That's great to hear. Issue is Roman lied in his letters lol had he been truthful i imagine he'd been a bit different. Also Roman was in debt and was essentially getting the run around via loan sharks (that I wouldn't put past Vlad to have put up to it to keep Roman in perpetual debt.) Niko helped him out here tho unfortunately it got them caught up.
The thing that sets Niko apart is something that a lot of modern media has issues with. Good example would be characters injecting awful comedy into serious situations. Niko japes during light hearted/ridiculous moments or to clap back at someone, but when he's in danger he's locked in and trying to win. Modern characters could be in the middle of the lvl. 100 final boss that has been hyped up for 3 movies, then drop an awful joke with an awkward pause that's like waiting for a laugh track. When GTA4 gets serious, it tries to stay serious for an appropriate window before injecting its usual absurdity and satire.
I play gta 4 almost every single day and have beaten it countless times over the past 16 years. Still to this day I find new spots that I have never seen. I don't like using guides so I've only found about 40 of the flying rats and a handful of weapons and armor pickups. I'm to the point where I drive slowly most of the time, even on missions. I love every station they play on the radio. If I could live in any world it would be liberty city in 2008.
wow, every day? i play episodes from liberty city (especially the ballad of gay tony because of the true color scheme and because friends get annoying calling you in 4) a few times a week; i get really really baked before playing and get all hypnotized that it's 2008 again because it's such a well made walking/driving/culture simulator... god i miss those times
In Gta 4 you dont play as a criminal, you play as a survivor, you play as one of the very few people who actually understand how the world works, only Rdr 2 has done this with Arthur, after his sickness he finally opened his eyes and sacrificed himself for the love of his soul brother, in regards of Niko his eyes opened the worst way possible, seeing his fellow friends getting slayed in front of a church because it was the excuse of war and people who don't know the balkans back in the day had a personal war between them and many atrocities happened, worse than what happened in ww2 and because it was such an atrocious war it has almost been eradicated from memory as it should be, you can learn more if you google it or ask an old man from the balkans who is not biased or a patriot, Niko and Arthur are one of the greatest characters that have ever been created and that will always remain a fact.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 If you want more GTA 4 stuff, I also made a video focusing more on Niko: ua-cam.com/video/SHpwKqNsvRE/v-deo.html And if there's anything else outside of GTA 4 you would like to see covered, let me know.
I was fully ready for Little Jacob to be a one-off joke that got old before the end of the mission when he was first introduced. I was downright stunned to instead find one of the few genuinely likeable characters in the entire GTA series, a dude I truly wouldn't mind hanging out and having a beer with (assuming I also had subtitles IRL). I'm super glad you mentioned him because I don't see him brought up a lot and I thought his relationship with Niko, and the way their very real-seeming friendship contrasts the otherwise contentious relationships in that game, was really neat.
To me, Grand Theft Auto IV is the best game of the franchise and is my favorite game in general. The story and characters are phenomenal. Niko Bellic is still my favorite protagonist as he both wants a fresh start, but also wants revenge for what happened to him during the war and so he’s not as committed to the fresh start that many who come to America would want. He’s a very complex character and I love playing this game every year from scratch. The journey is truly amazing and no matter the ending, it’s not a completely happy ending for Niko as he loses someone he loves. It’s tragic, yet very excellent in terms of the storytelling and characterizations of the various characters we see in the game. I’m glad GTA IV has been getting more and more love as time has gone on. I’ve loved it ever since I played it back when it came out on April 29, 2008 and I love it now. Great video man, keep up the great work and Happy New Year. Take care!
@reissdavies9724 i have a lot of them that live rent free in my head. Honestly its a toss up from. Good writing and phenomenal performances. Most of my favorites are IN this video. But I love when you kill Vlad "I have a lot of friends, you kill me and you wont last the night!" "well last longer than you! Goodbye Vlad" Same with Nikos last conversation with the IAA head. Head operator "Just like in the old country." in serbian? Pauses for a moment Niko "yes just like in the old country" in serbian. Also when you are rescuing Roman for the first time "No one fucks with my family!" "I'm not leaving without Roman!"
If you play the original 2 GTA games, especially GTA2, you will see that the vibes were there the whole time. honestly the crazy wacky San-Andreas style was a deviation from the original formula.
@jamesmata2945 yeah. Unfortunately. People only care for GTA and its sandbox and over the top violence gratuity. The story is just secondary. Which is a shame. If GTA 4 were named Red Dead new York or something. It would be celebrated as one of the greatest narratives ever told in the medium.
1:41 _"Instead it opens in a quiet almost boring scene."_ "Almost boring", because Soviet Connection was playing. 🔥 I actually forgot that every GTA game (excluding the DLC's) starts off with action to hype up and make the player feel intense, meanwhile GTA IV only needed a boat, a serb, and a banger of a music to do it. So thanks for pointing that out.
Greatest gaming intro ever. Feels like you're starting up something like The Wire or The Sopranos and it holds that billing through to the end. I think Niko is even more nuanced than John or Arthur as a tragic hero. Also shoutout Episodes from Liberty City for managing to both deepen the setting and expand the high caliber cast. The narrative of GTA IV is among the best in gaming and has left such an indellible impression on my own stories and characters.
GTA IV is the only game in the series that takes itself seriously. The overall tone of the game is much different from any of the others. True, the sarcastic and comical universe still exists, but the tone and story is much more grounded opposed to the rest.
This game is the reason I played gtaV once through played a couple heists online to buy a house and never played again since 2014. I love gta4 its a shame no other GTA will ever be this good again
This might sound silly, but sometimes i imagine myself as Niko and think about his past, current lifestyle and choices he had to make. I have replayed the game over 10-15 times and each time I feel getting even more deeply connected with the game. I genuinely felt sad for Dwayne, Derek and Kate. I felt the hollowness in the character and regret in Niko. I felt how he was trying to escape his past and how he struggled to do so. I don't know whether the developers actually wanted the game to be like this but no game ever could evoke such feelings in me the way GTA 4 did. For me GTA 4 is the best game ever.
Man after playing this game for over 13 years and witnessing this over multiple times of playing through the story, you are absolutely right. The environment, writing, characters, missions, acting and backstory are all unforgettable and still feel fresh. I can’t say anything about this game that no one else hasn’t noticed yet but what I can say is that this game is still my favorite GTA game of all time. If GTA 6 has this same kind of storytelling and everything I mentioned it will also be in it’s same league in my opinion. This game is simply a masterpiece, 10/10
GTA 4 allowed us to the experience Niko’s emotions happiness, laughter, regret, loss, revenge, love. I mean it was DARKKK and we all were encapsulated by it. 10/10
I’m such a fan of gta iv, I’ve had many other opinions saying otherwise since they don’t have the wacky and fun elements of the counterparts like San Andreas or vice city. GTA iv is such a real story about a character who is harboured by their pain and trying to make it through life. The somewhat relatability of Niko’s life makes me love the game so much, sure there isn’t a great amount of guns and plane but GTA iv took simplicity and made it a masterpiece. Thank you so much for your video essay it’s amazing.
What is that background song?? Goes really well with the whole video, amazing job my friend! Having completed this game multiple times since 2010 this video really connects with me! Niko is by far the most developed character in Rockstar Games universe.
A very in-depth review. Having not played the game, this story and atmosphere is much more morose than I would expect for a GTA title. It's a tragedy more than anything else, and especially today there are elements to Niko's journey to reflect our current worries here in modern America. Nicely edited as always; this must have taken forever to put together. I'm glad you acknowledged the game's flaws as well. Also, that final drunk conversation was hilarious.
I remember waking up before school just to play this in like 4th grade. It’s all I would think about until I got home. Will forever be my fav GTA. Also the theme is the best.
Killing Darko just fits in theme with the games themes and narrative more Imo. Even tho Niko realizes revenge will leave him empty he still feels indifferent about it everything and that raw human emotion feels more impactful to me then the happy go lucky stuff you get with sparing him.
I have no faith in GTA6. I absolutely love the writing of GTA 4, and all the beautiful interplay between Niko and everyone that you showcased here. I feel that it was really missing in GTA5. I worry that Rockstar has lost some of that knack for compelling narrative that it had. But I won't be upset if I'm wrong.
Forever my favorite GTA idc idc it’s about the characters the story the dialogue the atmosphere for me which is why this will always be the superior game for me
@ViciousTNT people say rdr franchise is gta in the old west and from a technical level it is. But the narrative, tone and character development are far more like GTAIV than the rest of gta. I like all the protagonist in both series but Niko, Arthur and John are way more fleshed out characters that have a ton of layers and an emotional depth to them and there stories are more serious toned.
RDR and GTAIV in tone are more of an absurd comedy. We have a straight-man protagonist in a world where every other character is a walking talking caricature. With the combination of very real issues, it's almost makes you want to lash out. John in RDR is morally ambiguous, all he cares for is his family and you can do some messed up stuff on your way that is even acknowledged from time to time. It's interesting that when you go on a rampage with Nico, he sounds like he is having a PTSD episode and reliving the war while the player slaughters innocent people.
@@KoylTrane Wow, just wow that's honestly one of the worst summaries of the themes and messages of either Red Dead Redemption or GTA IV I've ever had the displeasure of reading... Yes, Niko and Marston had their own flaws, but they stopped at nothing to help people in need. With Marston you literally get involved with Mexican revolution against colonisers. John Marston like Arthur Morgan abhors racists, detests misogyny and has little respect for aristocracy which tramples on the impoverished. The Pinkertons literally tried to sue R* for their depiction. Yes, John Marston's primary focus is the protection of his family, but it's not all he cares about. He cares also deeply about injustice he witnesses throughout the game by so called: 'civilisation' dictated by law of the wealthy. Niko Bellic despite having PTSD tries his darn hardest to regain his own humanity by seeing the good in others who are victims as they're brushed by the wayside by a heartless cold capitalist system mirroring Niko's own trauma which he endured during Yugoslavian war. There's reason why there's a CHOICE to not end Darko. At the beginning of the game Niko has the idea that Darko who sold out his friends to the Russian's was living it large in comfort, especially upon arriving in Liberty City reading Roman's emails. Yet, the game clearly SHIFTS us towards the notion Darko was no mastermind, just someone who hit their lowest and was ultimately taken advantage of for just a messily 1000 dollars. Whether the player chooses to act on that with Niko as the avatar is up to them, but the game gives you a choice to walk away from the cycle that'd turn Niko the same.
*Niko Bellic is one of the best developed (GTA) characters, inspired by the fictional character of Sasha Ivanic (from the movie "Behind the enemy lines" , Sasha Ivanic, depicted by Vladimir Mashkov playing the fictional antihero from the movie mentioned above ,by the way Sasha Ivanic' s character was most probably based on/inspired by one of the Enforcers of the real life Milorad Ulemek aka Milorad Luković ,) and it also looks that He was created to some extent to resemble Boško Radonjić also known as "The Yugo" , a real life Serbian immigrant criminal that was operating in New York in the '70s ,and Boris Mikhailovich Nayfeld* *His arrival by the boat in LC kinda reminds of the arrival of Antonio Montana in the movie "SCARFACE".* *One more fun fact, Grand Theft Auto Vice City stories plot is also more adult , tragic , showing that the life of a criminal can have damaging consequences* *Also let's not forget 'bout the two additional protagonists from the EFLC plots , Johnny Klebitz bears some similarities with the Protagonist of "The Sons of Anarchy" which is Jackson 'Jax' Teller and with the /real life/ Sonny Barger , on the other hand Luis Lopez bears similarities to Peoples Hernandez from "Shaft" and /real life/ Amado Carrillo Fuentes* *I've found another fun fact , it turns out that there was a Restaurant , night club and ...Cabaret in Brooklyn's Brighton Beach Ave...which was owned by a Russian Mobster, 'twas known as the Odessa* *The relationship 'tween Trey Stewart & Dwayne Forge looks strikingly similar to the real life Harlem Kingpins : Alpo Martinez & Rich Porter ,also depicted in the film "Paid In Full"*
Could you please do one of these videos about GTA V characters, take them apart and describe like this, I know they dont have thay much depth than Niko, but you did such an amazing job with this, GTA V would be good too!
Out of all the GTA's I played, 4 is the only game in the franchise that was genuinely engaging to me story wise. I hated 5, I thought the constant three character swaping made the plot a mess. And while I liked San Andreas and Vice City, their campaigns aren't nearly as interesting as 4's imo.
IV was my first experience with GTA, and I'm glad it was. No preconceived notions about what the game should be. Just Rockstar's vision, untainted by expectation. To this day, I still quote Niko's line about war. It's bitter and cynical to the core, but that just makes its reflection of reality all the truer for it.
I like my protagonist to suffer, to loose everything they have, after loosing everything they had. I want them to be unable to cry. If my protagonist isn't a ball of questionable morality i dont want it
Always down for a GTA IV video. "You're an asshole, Niko Bellic!" I've only ever done Eddie's story once in all the times I've played IV. Once was enough. Thanks for the reminder that he's a real silly billy.
52:20 - I appreciate this video's serious tone, but seeing Niko pointing a bloody RPG at Dimitri just made me chuckle 😂 Also, the revenge choice feels cannon over the deal choice because in the final confrontation cutscene with Pegorino vs Dimitri, you may notice Pegorino's scene occurs in bright clear weather whereas Dimitri's scene occurs during a rainy thunderstorm. It's a narrative technique known as pathetic fallacy, and it makes it feel like the deal ending was clearly the choice that lead to a darker outcome. But the biggest narrative critique that could be made is the game's contradictory message: first, sparing Darko and not taking revenge feels like the cannon choice with the game's presented themes of revenge. But then, immediately after, taking revenge on Dimitri to tie up loose ends feels like the cannon choice for that, which serves to undermine sparing Darko.
you are not gonna get another gta iv. You are gonna get a much more casualized, much more simplified and a much more politically corrected videogame than gta v. Developers back then had freedom. Had. Not anymore.
GTA 4 has the most grounded story of all of them, GTA SA starts serious but once you leave Los Santos the game goes into chaos land still a masterpiece though but not the point I'm making, VC is pretty serious too up until they ask you to steal a freaking tank during a march, V arguably the most fun and entertaining one of the bunch but when compared to GTA 4's story is knocked out the water, look the game has the best story plain and simple and unfortunately this gem of a game hasn't been giving a proper remaster, definitive edition or re-release on modern platforms and the p.c version still to this day is riddled with bugs, crashes and many more problems. If GTA 6 comes out before we get a remaster of this game, it probably never will.
The sad thing is that there will never be a game like GTA IV again. There is no way to match it today because of how modern culture and society has changed. I personally think Niko is the greatest protagonist out of any video game I have ever played. He is one of the most well written characters, one that is grounded, whose emotions feel real. He has many layers of trauma and a complicated morality. His interactions with Faustin's Wife, Marnie, Dimitri, Dwayne, Packie and others, feels authentic. At times I crave those deep interactions between characters. I can not describe it, but the interactions between characters in GTA 5 feels forced and insincere. I wish video games would go back to a time where they were not afraid to push boundaries, have deep complex characters, introspection and overall write a story worth replaying.
There is a modern glitch of zooming in cutsvenes you have to mod out. You also have to mod a de patcher for spme things to be readded in game. The driving is the best in the series.. this from someone who played all of them. Has a nice skill curve. I got pretty good at it. What. I learned from driving in this game saved me from a potentially fatal car accident. Alot.of great things in the game not in others as well. :)
Looking at this game really makes me wonder how Niko lives in the same universe where flying motorcycles and cars, and a freaking AI trying to take over the world exists. The most advanced technological object you can get in GTA IV are the 2008 cellphones, laptops, and the internet cafe.
True 😄 that said, something I forgot to include is how well the game has aged. In terms of game design, it looks and feels better than most AAA titles, even though it came out back in 2008
In many ways GTA IV is actually a return to form for GTA. I'd even go as far as saying it's basically GTA III 2.0 (in a good way). Like III, it takes place in LC. Like Claude, Niko is a hired gun on a revenge mission, who only works for money. The story is a lot deeper and the characters are the most developed in the series, but it follows a very similar premise if you think about it. Even mission design is similar, most of them give you a target or multiple targets and leaves it up to you how to eliminate them. A lot of them have a certain way which is best, but neither punishes you for being creative. Both games even give you the same arsenal, including car bombs (which are useful for a few missions in both games). III's and IV's missions are designed for a sandbox, where being creative and looking for alternative ways to complete your objective is rewarding. For example: using a sniper rifle to skip a long shootout, using a backdoor or the roof to get a jump on your enemies, car bomb etc.. Also both games have more challenging driving except III's is hell and IV's a nice challenge. GTA V tried to be more like San Andreas. Bigger map, bombastic set piece missions which inevetably rely more on scripted paths, customization and stats. But while IV is a clear improvement on III, V fails to improve on what made SA great. Bigger map than IV, but most of it empty. Still only 1 city, which frankly feels smaller than LC. They are the same size really, but LC is dense urban jungle and LS has wide streets enablin you to zoom from one end to the other in a minute. Also LA in real life is a lot bigger than NY in land area, but in GTA HD universe they are the same size, cutting most of the suburban sprawl of LA. LS feels very off, it lacks housing for its population. Most of the countryside is useless mountains which adds nothing to the game. And hunting? Really? Very high-stakes set piece missions which offer no player freedom. SA had those but the player didn't fail the mission for walking in the wrong direction. Cant't even put together your own heist in the heist-gta. Customization is nice, but not at the cost of gameplay. Characters will change into their default outfits anyway once you swich and Trevor in his underwear or a dress gets old fast. Stats are just pointless, weapons feel lazer-accurate even at starting levels and maxing out driving skill sucks out any little challenge left in it. Only flying skill has a noticeable increase. SA had a more complex system, where improving skills took time and felt rewarding bc you could see the impact on CJ when reaching hitman level with a weapon, gaining muscle, getting fat or gaining stamina and being able to sprint for a lot longer. GTA IV was a refreshing, back to its roots sandbox experience back in the day and has matured into a cult classic period piece. GTA V was a disappointment even when I was a kid and is nothing but a stale parody of itself now. GTA VI seems to take notes from RDR2, so I am hopeful that it hits us with another great story and characters similar to IV and adds some much needed new mechanics to meaningfully interact with the open world.
GTA IVs World is dark, violent, absurd and insanely depressing with only a few moments of genuine joy and happiness..... so basically just like the real life
i just bought this game yesterday and was highly dissapointed on how broken it is. can you tell me what mods you used to make it function properly cause i cant save game at all it just doesnt let me
i take the deal, make niko be a retired john wick type guy, dimitri must have enough trauma to stop him from trying anything ever again after the story
*San Andreas is my personal favorite but I respect those who say GTA4 👍 I think if 4 let you actually choose the people you work for instead of forcing you through a linear story path, it might've been my favorite.*
Wouldn't you say every Rockstar game forces you through a linear story path? Since SA is your favorite, you might enjoy this video covering CJ I did a couple of months ago: ua-cam.com/video/enw2KF5IV8U/v-deo.html
@@seppukujones9651 *thats what I mean. San Andreas is my favorite because it offers you SO MUCH outside of the mission structure. I've actually never even beaten San Andreas and its still my favorite Lol.*
GTA 4 is everything GTA 3 was in terms of weight of your actions, emotional drain and burden, and especially the dreary atmosphere what makes you feel hesitant about the idea of having fun
I was thinking how gta 6 could make much more comical charecters. Recently started gta 4, gta 4 has so many good variety of comic scenes, especially when niko meets any new people in missions and the dialogues. Sometimes he roasts other sometimes they roast him, little jacob accent, brucie's energy, roman's frustration. Gta v story lacks that for me, half of the time trevor and michael roast each other and Michael says them to calm down. + Brucie reminds me so much of ishowspeed.
Thank you for the video, I wont watch right now because I dont have time now but I promise I will watch it. I feel like gta 4 was the only game in the franchise that was very serious. Instead of fighting to become the king, you fight to survive the reality of capitalism in America
Perfect timing 😄 looking forward to hearing what you thought about it. And if there's anything you would like to see covered next, feel free to let me know 😊

1:01:00 I've said the same type of thing so many times about games that aspire for "realism". At a certain point, it just gets in your way. What they boast as "immersion", I call PADDING, because all it does is add more needless steps to complete simple tasks. That's not a substitute for fun or innovation. Like, people defended RDR2's padded realism by saying "Well, it's less of a 'game' and more of a 'cowboy simulator.'" Sounding like something straight out of one of RedLetterMedia's episodes of Nerd Crew with stupid over-intellectualizing and goalpost shifting. We bought a VIDEO GAME expecting a VIDEO GAME!!!

Lil jacob I could understand, but for Badman I really needed subtitles lol.
I also love how everything feels so huge and overwhelming when you look up in the game
100%. I lived in Montréal for a while, and it gave me the same feeling. I guess I'm not made for living surrounded by skyscrapers 😅
Take care!
Gta 4 has a lot of good quotes.
What’s your favourites
@reissdavies9724 i have a lot of them that live rent free in my head. Honestly its a toss up from. Good writing and phenomenal performances.
Most of my favorites are IN this video. But I love when you kill Vlad
"I have a lot of friends, you kill me and you wont last the night!"
"well last longer than you! Goodbye Vlad"
Same with Nikos last conversation with the IAA head.
Head operator "Just like in the old country." in serbian?
Pauses for a moment
Niko "yes just like in the old country" in serbian.
Also when you are rescuing Roman for the first time
"No one fucks with my family!"
"I'm not leaving without Roman!"

"YELLOW CARRR"
If you play the original 2 GTA games, especially GTA2, you will see that the vibes were there the whole time. honestly the crazy wacky San-Andreas style was a deviation from the original formula.
Maybe you're right, I haven't played 1 and 2 in a long time
GTA 4 and the episodes are the 🐐, I hope gta 6 goes back realistic like 4, it has potential
Same 🙌
different devs and its just not what peoole want. people dont really care for good writing just cheap thrills and online gameplay
1:41 _"Instead it opens in a quiet almost boring scene."_
"Almost boring", because Soviet Connection was playing. 🔥
I actually forgot that every GTA game (excluding the DLC's) starts off with action to hype up and make the player feel intense, meanwhile GTA IV only needed a boat, a serb, and a banger of a music to do it.
Excellent video, really well put together.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
This might sound silly, but sometimes i imagine myself as Niko and think about his past, current lifestyle and choices he had to make.
The music, grittiness, Niko, everything is so peak
GTA 4 allowed us to the experience Niko’s emotions happiness, laughter, regret, loss, revenge, love. I mean it was DARKKK and we all were encapsulated by it. 10/10
This was so well put together i watched the whole thing, and it felt like time flew by 😮
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it ❤️
I’m such a fan of gta iv, I’ve had many other opinions saying otherwise since they don’t have the wacky and fun elements of the counterparts like San Andreas or vice city.
And the score is 🔥
Killing Darko just fits in theme with the games themes and narrative more Imo. Even tho Niko realizes revenge will leave him empty he still feels indifferent about it everything and that raw human emotion feels more impactful to me then the happy go lucky stuff you get with sparing him.
Amazing accurate and articulate video, well done 👏
you are so good at this, subbed.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
The intro music one of the best video game songs ive ever heard
It goes so hard 🔥
It's the perfect driving that makes everything great in IV
I have no faith in GTA6. I absolutely love the writing of GTA 4, and all the beautiful interplay between Niko and everyone that you showcased here. I feel that it was really missing in GTA5. I worry that Rockstar has lost some of that knack for compelling narrative that it had. But I won't be upset if I'm wrong.
Have you not played Red Dead 2?
Gta is a diff franchise bro@@joewilson6837
GTA6 will, without a doubt in my mind, be a woke pile of nonsense.

Forever my favorite GTA idc idc it’s about the characters the story the dialogue the atmosphere for me which is why this will always be the superior game for me
GTA IV was my first game in the GTA series. It will always have a spot in my heart
I think the RDR franchise is more in line with GTAIV
Aye, true that
@ViciousTNT people say rdr franchise is gta in the old west and from a technical level it is.
@@zocialix it wasn't a summary of the themes and messages
GTA IV is still my favorite GTA game and probably always will be. GTA 5s story was great, but 4 was on another level
*Niko Bellic is one of the best developed (GTA) characters, inspired by the fictional character of Sasha Ivanic (from the movie "Behind the enemy lines" , Sasha Ivanic, depicted by Vladimir Mashkov playing the fictional antihero from the movie mentioned above ,by the way Sasha Ivanic' s character was most probably based on/inspired by one of the Enforcers of the real life Milorad Ulemek aka Milorad Luković ,) and it also looks that He was created to some extent to resemble Boško Radonjić also known as "The Yugo" , a real life Serbian immigrant criminal that was operating in New York in the '70s ,and Boris Mikhailovich Nayfeld*
*His arrival by the boat in LC kinda reminds of the arrival of Antonio Montana in the movie "SCARFACE".*
*One more fun fact, Grand Theft Auto Vice City stories plot is also more adult , tragic , showing that the life of a criminal can have damaging consequences*
*Also let's not forget 'bout the two additional protagonists from the EFLC plots , Johnny Klebitz bears some similarities with the Protagonist of "The Sons of Anarchy" which is Jackson 'Jax' Teller and with the /real life/ Sonny Barger , on the other hand Luis Lopez bears similarities to Peoples Hernandez from "Shaft" and /real life/ Amado Carrillo Fuentes*
*I've found another fun fact , it turns out that there was a Restaurant , night club and ...Cabaret in Brooklyn's Brighton Beach Ave...which was owned by a Russian Mobster, 'twas known as the Odessa*
*The relationship 'tween Trey Stewart & Dwayne Forge looks strikingly similar to the real life Harlem Kingpins : Alpo Martinez & Rich Porter ,also depicted in the film "Paid In Full"*
Thanks for sharing ❤️
@ViciousTNT *Don't mention it* 👌
Could you please do one of these videos about GTA V characters, take them apart and describe like this, I know they dont have thay much depth than Niko, but you did such an amazing job with this, GTA V would be good too!
4 is the best yet I feel is the most under appreciated GTA game. I grew up playing VC and SA, but matured playing IV, and glad I did.
San Andreas's story is a drug trip... Quite literally, I mean aliens, black project, Area 69, becoming a part-time secret agent.
If my protagonist isn't a ball of questionable morality i dont want it
Fantastic video! GTA IV will always be my favourite GTA-game.
45:40 😂 gta 4 npc commentary is undefeated 😂😂
Lol, I noticed that as well when editing 😅
only one word masterpiece!
EpsilonCobra thinks he's Socrates but he's just Garrincha
i like how grand theft auto shows liberty city as almost bleak and dismal, los santos as fake and flashy, and vice city as just pure unbridled chaos
Always down for a GTA IV video. "You're an asshole, Niko Bellic!"
I've only ever done Eddie's story once in all the times I've played IV. Once was enough. Thanks for the reminder that he's a real silly billy.
Yeah, once is plenty
Rockstar Games will fail its own GTA series if GTAIV does not get a definitive addition/remastered for the current consoles soon.
It's on the newest xbox
Considering how the did the definitive trilogy, I'd rather they don't.
I can't speak for the consoles, but on PC, it ran quite well, and didn't feel that outdated.
lucky you guys, for some reason its not playable for the Playstation5.
If any game deserves a remaster its this one
Yo babe wake up, Vicious TNT just dropped a video!
❤️❤️❤️
52:20 - I appreciate this video's serious tone, but seeing Niko pointing a bloody RPG at Dimitri just made me chuckle 😂
Also, the revenge choice feels cannon over the deal choice because in the final confrontation cutscene with Pegorino vs Dimitri, you may notice Pegorino's scene occurs in bright clear weather whereas Dimitri's scene occurs during a rainy thunderstorm.
1:04:55 Red Dead Redemption IS that series
gta 4 is like a preserved time capsule to my teenage years.
It's crazy to think that -- even after all the delays -- GTA 4 was released just 3 years after the previous major installment.
gta iv can never be topped
Even in 2025 GTA 4 is the best GTA.
you are not gonna get another gta iv. You are gonna get a much more casualized, much more simplified and a much more politically corrected videogame than gta v. Developers back then had freedom. Had. Not anymore.

I'm stuck on the loading screen, man, I heard the PC port was bad but i learn it the hard way
I'm sorry to hear that, man.
@ViciousTNT don't be ...
The game was poorly ported anyway
I've just made a song as a tribute to this legendary game!! It's in my channel.
Great video man, this is a really underrated game!

I wasn't aware there was a mod to fix the camera zoom. Thanks, mate!
@ViciousTNT awesome mate! Thanks for the love mark! Love me!
Comedies are funnier when played straight. Games are funnier when realistic.

The ending 😂
I was thinking how gta 6 could make much more comical charecters.
Recently started gta 4, gta 4 has so many good variety of comic scenes, especially when niko meets any new people in missions and the dialogues. Sometimes he roasts other sometimes they roast him, little jacob accent, brucie's energy, roman's frustration. Gta v story lacks that for me, half of the time trevor and michael roast each other and Michael says them to calm down.
+ Brucie reminds me so much of ishowspeed.

1:01:00 I've said the same type of thing so many times about games that aspire for "realism".
At a certain point, it just gets in your way. What they boast as "immersion", I call PADDING, because all it does is add more needless steps to complete simple tasks. That's not a substitute for fun or innovation.
Like, people defended RDR2's padded realism by saying "Well, it's less of a 'game' and more of a 'cowboy simulator.'"
Sounding like something straight out of one of RedLetterMedia's episodes of Nerd Crew with stupid over-intellectualizing and goalpost shifting.
