I want to thank everyone who submitted a photo, I really appreciate seeing people that care about their chinchillas & genuinely want to do whatever they can to improve their chinchillas' lives. I am in no manner calling anyone a bad owner, or uncaring of their chinchilla. I am simply seeking to provide the highest level of equitable information to my viewers. Hi, I was 35, I didnt realize how barren her cage was until i saw it in a video. I have already ordered a bunch of ledges off of etsy, and I just started a job so i can get her a new wheel. she has three new hanging toys in the cage too :) thanks for the feedback!

Also mine was #14. I was ripped off and was told they were pillow case style but they werent and I can't return them...they also charged me 200$ for it. I am going to order new ones from Etsy as soon as I can.

@@sarahkahn4626 it was from an independent creator supported by Amazon. I beleieve her company is called "created by Laura" they would be fine for a guinea pig or rabbit but the quality of the fleece is not there. The stitching is already coming loose and the fleece is worn and she charges a fortune. Will probably leave a review on Amazon but will never buy from her again
@@devynthecatwithsocks9010 Should definitely leave a bad review with all your input and with pictures. Then people won't fall for it anymore and maybe the seller will actually improve on her products.

Merlin has so much energy while my chin just sits in his there all day... My parents just look at me like, "Why do you give him such a big cage if he only stays in one spot?" I'm like, "You're not the one who shares a room with him! You would know why! You wouldn't get a single minute of sleep!"
My chin is really noisy at night too! Even after I give him and hour of playtime, he'll jump all around and when he finally gets tired, he stares at me 0.0 (he has plenty of toys tho??)
Hi Every time I come into the room Merlin gets excited to see me, but this time he was more energetic cause he hates watching me give the other chinnie attention while I ignore him 😂

I love your videos very educational, critism is good as it points out issues/room for improvement. Ive deffinatly learned to stay away from plastic and metal/mesh bottoms for chinchillas so ive stuck to wood and metal for my new chinchilla.

I would like to know what size wheel Merlin runs on. I was looking to purchase one on Etsy that is a silent spinning wheel. They come anywhere from 14x4 to 16x4 the bigger the better I know ,also do you know Merlin or Zorro's weight ? I can't wait to see you introduce them if and when you do. What your referring to as plywood is actually oriented strange board, plywood is similar but doesn't have little chunks of wood exposed. And generally the common plywood found at places like Lowes are made of mainly pine.

Whats your opinion on ferret nation cages? I have one because i thought that the critter nations were kinda pricey. I took the middle part because its wire.
Sunset horses They are the same as critter nations, except for the bar spacing is large and vertical, but they’re awesome!💕
I have one chinchilla and I know that they are supposed to live in paris, but I cant get another cage yet, and I wouldn't know where to put my second chinchilla so do you have any advice for me?
Btw the pans are plastic we do not have any fabric to put on them the first cage was mine but my chinchillas are not plastic chewers but we will put fleece over them when stores open and the ramps are not mettle but they never never never chew it

I've tried my chins with a chinspin and a large flying saucer but they just don't seem interested. Is that a big problem and do you have any tips to encourage wheel use?
My chins are rescued and are at least 5 years old, maybe just too set in their ways before I adopted them?
Some chinchillas won’t use a wheel, and it definitely is not an essential item as long as your chins have space in their cage and time to run around outside of it. If you are wanting to keep trying, I would suggest using treats like rolled oats as a motivator
Hey I’m sorry this does not have anything to do with your video today however I had a question I am bringing home a 11 month old female with her one week old kit I have a three-month-old male Chinchilla they will be in separate cages when it comes to the Mom and my male Chinchilla once they are neutered or spayed I will slowly start the side-by-side method but at what age is it OK to introduce the kits to my three month old male?

You can get everything for a cage from Etsy and PetSmart but be careful about what you pick, she has a critter nation which you can get from Amazon or Walmart (online i think)

Season Storm A chinchilla’s native habitat is in the mountains where they have to jump a lot and considering they can jump up to 6 feet, they really need to have that jumping enrichment. If they can’t jump they may become bored which would lead to a state of depression.

Hey, I got my chinchilla from another owner who couldn't take care of her. They had built her a fully wooden hutch cage, but It doesn't feel like the safest or healthiest. I have a small budget, but am willing to adjust. Does anyone have any cage recommendations from amazon or anything?
Krista Marie There’s a cage on sale right now for 190 dollars on amazon, called the ‘amazon basics’ cage, I didn’t look at measurements but from the pictures it seems big enough.

I’m pretty sure she has a critter nation, you can get them from Walmart (online i think) and Amazon. Or a you can go to Kijiji or Craigslist for used and cheap.

I really wish you did more research and explained further into materials used for diy cages, since you kept referring to OSB as plywood. Just going based on the words you used I assume you mean stay away from OSB because chinchillas can rip off the wood "strands" vs real plywood which is sheets of wood glued together which provides a flat surface that chinchillas can't rip chunks off. As for "safe" plywood, there is a lot of plant(soy)-based glues used in plywood and is widely available (at least in the U.S) however it is still combined with resin therefore should not be used to make ledges. Soy plywoods are however better than formaldehyde plywood because the latter is known for releasing VOCs (volatile organic compounds) indoors throughout its lifespan. So if you want to build a cage to save money, use soy-based plywood on the exterior but hardwood boards to build ledges inside. The only treating the hardwood boards should have is "kiln-dried".
Please feel free to add to this comment for any other diy cage ideas/materials.
When done right you can make a larger cage than prebuilt metal for the same amount of money that will also fit in your space better, plus give you the ability to choose how much storage space you want in the build itself.

also on number 24 not only does it need more huts , it needs more ledges , and the ramps and ledges are plastic . the chinnie needs more toys too!!

No, I wouldn’t. They can’t withstand high temps above 72, nothing under 40-50 degrees. Also they’re fast and there’s almost no way to bring them outside.

I’ll list off all the mistakes i made as a new owner so you don’t have to learn the hard way.
they can’t eat any fruit vegetables or seeds/nuts. Their diet should only consist of hay/ quality pellets. red Oxbow / science selective is the best chinchilla food brand in my opinion.
Plastic is toxic to chinchillas if ingested do not use any plastic huts and if you get a cage with plastic trays make sure to cover it with fleece.
paper bedding is dangerous because when swallowed it will expand in the stomach and kill them.
only use anti pill fleece, aspen or pine bedding.
If you’re going to give treats oats , rosehips , apple sticks , organic bee pollen are the best treats. :) Treats should only be 10% of a chinchillas diet (they should only get treats 1-2 times a week) the other 90% is hay & pellets.
Chinchillas do not need a wheel but if you’re going to buy one i would recommend the chinspin but that is $120. I’ve tried other wheels and that’s the only one my chinchillas actually used.

critter nation
ferret nation
(for the critter and ferret nation the single story or double are both suitable sizes)
I don’t recommend getting a cage with a lot of plastic. kaytee cages suck.
They need dust bathes every two days do not leave the container of dust in the cage 24/7 because that will dry out their skin and they will end up using it as a litter box and the dust / urine smell really bad😭.
@@Isabella-em5jw They…..can’t have ANY nuts, seeds, fruits, or veggies? At all? Like the chinchilla WILL die if they eat it in any way possible? I’m genuinely curious if this is true or not and where you got this information because I’ve seen FARRR too many people say this for my liking. I doubt they can’t eat it at all, if what you mean is they can’t have nuts, seeds, fruits, or veggies as their daily diet like hay and pellets and should only be given as a treat- then that’s completely fine.
