C'est sympa de s'intéresser à Manu Chao avec "mes gustas tu", la chanson existe depuis au moins 20 ans mais on l'entend toujours. Très connu en Amérique du sud.
It's nice to be interested in Manu Chao with "mes gustas tu", the song has been around for at least 20 years but we still hear it. Well known in South America.
I've almost forgotten this guy and this whole vibe. I remember that around 2000 we were listening to Manu Chao a LOT, we had two of his albums, Clandestino and Próxima Estación: Esperanza. It was such a vibe, we loved how layered and clever yet simple it was, the combination of this very chilling South American street/folk mood with the French rap in some of the songs (French rap was really interesting for us in Central Europe, because we usually associated the French language with high class and sophistication, and French rap was totally unknown for us, so it was kinda mindf*ck, and we enjoyed it so-so much). So it was really fun and nostalgic to warch your great reaction, and you should definitely listen to more of his stuff, like Clandestino or Bongo Bong / Je ne t'aime plus (as I remember these were the huge hits, but we listened to these two albums mentioned on repeat, so as I started to listen to them on Spotify now, everything sounded familiar and brought back great memories.) One of my best friends' father was an opera and documentary director, and he told us that it was the only type of pop music he was able to listen to, and as I can remember, really everyone liked Manu Chao. I checked this guy now on Wikipedia, and he's 62 now... Well, tume flies...
Manu Chao is a music phenom, his albums are excellent and his sound is so unique and global, his music to me never gets old.
Manu Chao was member of La Mano Negra (you've already reacted to their song Mala Vida) before going his own way. Songs from his albums Clandestino and Proxima Estacion Esperanza were huge hits in France, Spain and Latin America (the Spanish speaking parts at least).
The music is short because it is part of an album that has continuity so makes more sense as a whole!

Dereck, this is from a solo album from MANU CHAO and is a member of the band MANO NEGRA. I suggest you to listen the entire 2 albums of MANU CHAO because he tells us a story, that's why the songs are shorts and the songs follow each other. The songs are so simple but the messages are strongs.
Can´t believe this album only got to #6 in Sweden. The record I heard the most that year by far.
I thought I was tripping when I first listened to it and heard the French part even as a person who doesn’t know either Spanish nor French I was impressed with the music and the way of speaking the dialect into the song

He used to buy expensive recording studio gear, but he never had the inspiration and the spontaneity to work with it. So he kept recording with a portable cassette tapes on the go. This is why his voice recording is not high quality compared to instrumentation.
You've started off with one of his crappy songs imo, but if you'd try 'La Vida Tombola' or 'Clandestino' or 'Desaparecido' I'm sure you will love him even more. And of course his 90's classic 'King Kong Five' with his first band Mano Negra.

Si t'en as entre les jambes alors (ce que je doute!), j'attends ton genre de commentaire comme tu as su le faire pour moi si jamais le Vlataxlol par exemple critique un de tes chanteurs. Ici comme toujours beaucoup de paroles en l'air et dans le vent. Puis ça supporte pas quand on vous critique vos artistes mais vous savez le faire sans arrêt depuis plus de 2 ans. Faut savoir accepter le retour du bâton.
