The remake’s soundtrack was recorded with live instruments as opposed to MIDI as in the original. That’s the way I prefer video game music to be arranged.
It's taken me some time to get to the remake due to a lot of other games taking up my attention, but I will buy it this month. It's been so long since I played the fantranslation that I hardly even remember how it went, so script changes and game rebalancing probably won't even gonna register... still, could be fun to replay the original after I'm done with the remake and see how it feels in comparison.
I really enjoyed the remake. It was fun, it looked gorgeous as hell, I didn't have any complaints. But man I just want to get my hands on that Dragon Quest 3 remake already
The original Live A Live first came out in Japan during my freshman year of high school. It was developed in a time video game age rating boards, and in a time before social media and cellphones. My mom was 49 at the time of the original Live A Live, and my second older brother is around that age at the time of the remake. I didn’t have access to the Internet back then.
Haha, I just wrote the same thing above. I'm amazed how many of these remakes don't bother including the original version. Even the Spyro and Crash remakes left out the originals. Again, why? Why not just throw the original ISOs on the disc for preservationist and comparison's sake?
@@Mr.Pacario That's a lot of extra work. These old games would need some form of emulation to get them running on modern hardware. Honestly, it's a very niche request and not worth doing so.
@@RicochetForce Nah, it would actually be incredibly easy to, say, emulate SNES Live a Live on the Switch. And that goes for most games from the '90s. Any modern system can emulate them with ease, and the emulators are everywhere.
@@Mr.Pacario You're asking them to add an emulator to a remake project. It doesn't matter how easy you may think it is, it's still a little unreasonable. Most remakes don't include the original versions because that's a step too far, and the budgets likely don't cover the work and QA needed to make sure these emulation efforts are good and stable.
@@RicochetForce There's no reason for it to be "a step too far." It'd be easy to do, cheap, and, frankly, it makes a lot of sense to have the original attached to the remake. And some titles, like Monster World 4, do just that.
It's a pity the original Live A Live wasn't included along with the remake--it always irks me when this is the case. How hard is it to include both? Square did do this for Trials of Mana, translating both the original and the remake--not too difficult, since both versions more-or-less share the same script. And since the Live A Live remake is also similar to the original, most of the same translation could have been used. Or, simply use the fan version! That would have been even more awesome.
I can see why, honestly: - Lacks most of the remake's UI addons, which would definitely stop non-ogs from playing it. - Censorship. - Most people would prefer to play it once, and use the remake for that. It's honestly filling memory space for something that's not that important and most people would ignore me.
@@penitente3337 It would have been nice from a preservationist's perspective, especially since we never got the original. And since the new version does change the original script a bit, including the original game would respect the original team's work and contribution. Now, sadly, the original is destined to be replaced by this one; let them live (no pun intended) side by side, I say.
@@Mr.Pacario Well, I'd say that's already taken care of actually, with the original rom dump (which people can learn Japanese to read and have it unfiltered/uncensored), and the original fan translation (which may have ha some translation things fall through the cracks, due to not having a direct english variant for some things). Personally, I agree with the OP in the sense that, if I'm gonna play a game, I usually try to go straight to the best possible version of it, so that I can get the most complete experience in one playthrough. For instance, Final Fantasy 1. The original, broken as hell NES release is romdumped and easily obtained if anyone wants to play that thing, but why would I, when I can just go straight to the PSP version. It has ALL the content the previous iterative remakes have, and more, the best graphics of all the versions, and the most polish (few glitches, aside from the one glitch that persisted in all versions: The critical hit bug). I can just play the PSP version, and experience everything the game has to offer in one playthrough. To me, that defines a good remake: The quality, quality of life and polish are ramped up, all possible content from previous versions, and new content, all in one complete package. Other well done remake examples include, but are not limited to: Final Fantasy 2 PSP, Final Fantasy 4 PSP, Pokemon Fire Red, Pokemon HeartGold, Crash N Sane Trilogy, etc. No matter how much nostalgia I may have for the original versions (which are easily accessed through emulation), why would I tell someone to play Pokemon Red as their first experience with Kanto, when FireRed exists, and does everything Red does but better and more polished?
Hope this game get released on Steam one day. Octopath Traveller was originally a Nintendo exclusive before coming to Steam a year later. One of my biggest issues was the enemy encounters in the final chapter were too repetitive and were usually a pain to deal with. Does anyone know if there's more variety or if the enemies are at least more bearable to fight?
Yeah I believe they changed it in the remake, but this is just an observance. The encounter rate doesn't seem to have changed much, but it definitely feels like they slightly lowered it, and the enemy formations change as your party levels. I hope this helps!
@@fieryrebirth The formations do change in the original as well, it's just that when your levels start to peak, you end up fighting the same handful of formations over and over. One in particular features enemies with extremely high defence that counter attacks by inflicting all manner of debuffs and stat aliments to the entire party.
@@thatoneguy4452 I know the enemy you're describing. It's an "anti-aoe" enemy that usually requires a good multi-hit attack to bring it and it's nasty "bad breath" attack out of the fray.
I just finished this game and did not expect to fall in love with it like I did. It's such a charming and unique adventure with a memorable soundtrack and fun characters. I really enjoyed every single chapter, even the ones I didn't think I'd be too keen on. There's part of me that really wishes the game was just longer and that there was more of it, but at the same time I recognize how it really doesn't overstay its welcome, and accomplishes everything it needs to even in the shorter chapters.
Yeah, it already pads out the finale with several extra hours that some feel don't need to be there (as it kills the pacing a bit), so to each his own, I guess. I just wish the original ROM had been included with a translation patch, either official or the fan version. (Honestly, I would have preferred the fan version.)

Being a gamer from the early 1990's is weird for this very reason. In the US we used to have a lot of censorship from Japanese games due to religious/'child-protecting' reasons. Then between the late 90's and 2000's we pretty much didn't have any, and it was great. Now circle back to today, we have it yet again for poIitical/'moral' reasons... ultimately the same thing all over again. Sad how all these unfortunate trends always repeat themselves... 😓

For agenda, TL:DR it's the whole woke thing to get a free pass based on where you check off in society, and get on that self-owning soapbox in every possible place/medium to shame/distract those who simply want escapism in hobbies. Agenda being how we are having education become a cult to demand (without parental consent) children be known first for sexuality, get confused at what a woman is (character customization being appearance or style nowadays) to the point we are told to ignore the sexual dimorphism that plays a role in how much stronger a man in his prime generally is, or give black kids (I'm evil for not saying of color or brown) extra points for grit because the previous system is racist yet you're not allowed to challenge this way of thinking (for example, a lot of asians, who paid tutors to win, felt extremely ripped off at this free racial credit and losing to lower college scores). We're also not allowed to compare to a broken new system like bail reform, or how capitalism needs diversity hires to distract from its wage theft, and overwork to sickness with removing a remote option in a pandemic, to make people quit their jobs. It betrays itself at every aspect, like women's equality day ads complaining they get to "only" be one-third of the board of directors despite being half the population (which is a lot anyway let alone if we're contradicting ourselves by telling kids a woman is a feeling, it becomes irrelevant).

"...and the one standout track is the opening for the near future which is now sung..." what, you disappoint me Austin, what about...MEGALOMANIA PARAPANPAN PARARAN PARAPANPAN PARARAN PARANPANPAAARAN PARARAN PARANPANPAAARAN PARARAN PARANPARAN PARANRAN PARANPARAN PARARAN PARAN PARAN! Great video as always :D
Gotta love the 1080p resolution on display for an HD-2D game on switch finally. I liked Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy a lot, but gosh Pixel art sprites don't look good when the pixels are blurry and deserve to be sharply rendered in all there blocky goodness, so I appreciate the developer team seemed to tone down the post processing effects to be able to hit the Switch's native docked resolution.
well, just wait when the timed-exclusive or... it exists. I don't know. will go all out on multplatform in the future that it allows for huge improvements on graphics department and other things. and if it still persists from the original release, you can always count on the modders.
@@arhturcosta4066 I own a Switch, but was hoping for PC ports of Triangle Strategy and Live A Live. It's good news that it sounds like it turned out better than Octopath Traveler, but playing that on Switch really made me wish for an options menu or being able to mods things to my liking. If they don't come after a year or so I'll just buy them on Switch, but I really hope other versions are announced. (When Nintendo brings the next console it would be nice if we could get updates for things like resolution boosts and higher framerates though too. Because I'd be shocked if it's not backwards compatible with Switch.)
@@infasis I heard from a discord channel that they managed to dataopen secretly on the game's files suggesting that there is controle inputs of PS4/5 and PCs. Meaning that a port to other devices is tecnicallly possible. so, the question is... when?
Thank you for sharing !
Great info thank you 🙏
Man, can't wait for this to hit PC.
My dream is a Chrono Trigger remake made this way
Great video bro
will you make videos like these for the Mario & Luigi remakes?
Great job dude
Mother 3 is getting closer. It is bound to happen (pun)
Oof, I'm late but a couple things you missed:
-The 3 inheritors can learn all of the Shifu's moves through level up even in the SFC original.
-Taroimo no longer gets dragged out of Steel Titan during the Near Future ending, allowing you to unequip any items he had that you want Akira to bring to the ending.
I'm probably forgetting some
10:42 Why they changed Taeko’s panties for Taeko’s Secret stash?!
Typical censorship, never gets old for them.
Maybe the one that you can actually buy?
This, without changing plot lines and dialogue, is *EXACTLY* what I wanted for Final Fantasy 6, and the prior FF games.
It just proves that they _could_ do it, but just chose not to, which is a shame :(
And why Square would spend money on FF6,when they have the ultimate cash cow:Final Fantasy 7?
The remake’s soundtrack was recorded with live instruments as opposed to MIDI as in the original. That’s the way I prefer video game music to be arranged.
It's taken me some time to get to the remake due to a lot of other games taking up my attention, but I will buy it this month. It's been so long since I played the fantranslation that I hardly even remember how it went, so script changes and game rebalancing probably won't even gonna register... still, could be fun to replay the original after I'm done with the remake and see how it feels in comparison.
I need Live a Live 2
looking forward to the Trails from Zero comparison. those are beefy games in terms of text
I really enjoyed the remake. It was fun, it looked gorgeous as hell, I didn't have any complaints. But man I just want to get my hands on that Dragon Quest 3 remake already
Can you imagine FF6 remade like this???
Is this game coming to Steam?
Maybe soon
The original Live A Live first came out in Japan during my freshman year of high school. It was developed in a time video game age rating boards, and in a time before social media and cellphones. My mom was 49 at the time of the original Live A Live, and my second older brother is around that age at the time of the remake. I didn’t have access to the Internet back then.
I opted to emulate the original over playing the remake because of localization changes. I'll emulate the switch version though
Riiight
For games like these that never got US releases in the first place, I'd love for them to include a translated version of the original.
I can see why, honestly:
- Lacks most of the remake's UI addons, which would definitely stop non-ogs from playing it.
- Censorship.
- Most people would prefer to play it once, and use the remake for that.
It's honestly filling memory space for something that's not that important and most people would ignore me.
People is NEVER happy, right?
Always something to complain about.
@@SeventhheavenDK Um, are you saying it would not have been nice to also receive the original?
No matter how much nostalgia I may have for the original versions (which are easily accessed through emulation), why would I tell someone to play Pokemon Red as their first experience with Kanto, when FireRed exists, and does everything Red does but better and more polished?
what's the resolution on this? i remember octopath traveler was verry low res and smudgy looking. this looks much sharper
I don't know off the top of my head, but yes it's sharper than octopath was. I'll measure it and get back to you with a pinned addendum comment
@@AustinSV thanks mate. always love your vids
I just ran away, bearing in mind running from fights aktivates a hidden Boss, so i guess in that sense it helps
Bahamut Lagoon in HD2D when
I just finished this game and did not expect to fall in love with it like I did.
I try not to support anything with censorship.. but this is such a fascinating and unlikely release I had to grab it. Such a cool game. Worth playing both versions.
now they ned to remake terranigma
The remake does not have the original music then?
Sadly no
Kirby with e'm 90s getup 😂🤣
Didn't know about the censorship. I wish I knew before buying it because I don't condone censorship in any form. Thank you for the informations. The video is excellent.
Hahaha
Is it pronounced live or live?
It's live.
Live like “five”
I hope Chrono trigger gets this remake treatment
Now this is a good remake, not like Final Fantasy 4...
I tried out the SFC version a couple of times and never felt like I got a bead on the gameplay, so never played too much into it. That being said I really love the visual asthetic of the remake. I'd love to get it but I think I need a deep discount before I take the plunge on remake.
But I am really stoked for that DQ3 remake. Wish they'd stop teasing us.
Just the information I needed. Will probably go straight for the remake I think.>
I really miss "your eyes are as blue as window cleaner" and Matsu's Pissed Fist attack :( And yeah the censorship is unacceptable in 20-fucking-22 and the localizers dropped the ball so hard on Pogo's first word that it crashed through the Earth's crust and popped out in China. I love but hate the remake.
oh no, the panties are gone, 0/10
Waiting the FFXIII video😭😭😭
The music across both of these are so damn good.
Localization is pretty bad so I'd only rec the remake if you know JP.
@kollie79 not knowing any better must be a bliss.
@kollie79 well good for you, but for me the changes were drastic enough that I can't in good faith recommend the localization.
I hope that, if they ever truly remake Chrono Trigger, it's in this style. HD2D is timeless!
That and Illusion of Gaia
@@eamonndeane587 Well Actraiser (by the same developer as Illusion of Gaia) got a remake last year so maybe there's hope to see the whole Resurrection Trilogy and Robotrek get some love in the future too.
Please bring to ps4 and ps5!!!!!!!!!
Why do people pronounce it like that
we need Final Fantasy 6 in 2D HD style
What i wouldnt give to have Final Fantasy 6 remade like this
Just play the original. It isn't censored
Damn the original looked so much worse than i thought
i love the idea how this is done, especially with the golden snes era of rpgs
Just not really into this specific game tough
Turn off the voice acting, tutorial pop up screen as well as the mini radar on the bottom right, and the remake will be closer to the original but with enhanced graphics.
No, thanks.
Just gonna add this over in japan the Remake is seen as utter trash the changes to the script are Extreme and the censorship beyond acceptable Live A Live was always seen as an adult focused game sanitizing it pissed them off. Subjective note the don't like the HD retro look in general and get turned off it stating its the worst of both styles mashed together.
I have to agree with them on the Script way to many narrative changes and Famous jokes removed for the "message" and replaced with generic or insulting dialogue aimed at them. I will always take a literal translation myself. But i do like the HD retro look in certain cases but man when the 3d buildings get in the way they look Awful.
" in japan the Remake is seen as utter trash " Source? Because I doubt many people here can speak or read japanese enough to accurately gauge their reactions. And for being regarded as trash in japan it sure sold well enough.

I really hate the changes they use for these games for things that some people might be offended by, I wish they'd make the changes to the default and have an option to play the game as it was originally made.
Wishing for what it was in the original is to wish for a higher CERO rating.
If the Live-A-Live Dev team want to sell their product to their target audience, they have to comply to these ratings.
@@Hausbrauen is it sad that you can't steal panties? Yall are fucking weird, I grew up playing this game and can't say I loved it due to a couple small scenes and some beer. I loved it for the story, music, strategy and characters. Stop, being, weird.

@@uninspiredname2974 I'm not even one of those who go crazy making a career of anti-woke vids, but it gets ridiculous in a lot of aspects (and don't get me started on she-hulk twerking/hating the derivative name despite her gift powerset from hulk lol).
@@uninspiredname2974 to extend a branch to him, a lot of localizations lately have completely removed gendered language, changed lines to not portray women weakly or negatively, or have changed scenes to tone things down. While you can argue it's never individually major, it's been adding up
