Played 3, New Vegas, and 4
The show really captured the aesthetics, fantasy aspects and feeling of unease and wild humour of the games, couldn’t have asked for more from a game IP adaption
I've played 3 & 4, and Fallout Shelter. It *looks* like the 50s, but it's 2077 at the start of the show. It's an alternate timeline that split from ours in the 1950s. They stayed in that aesthetic while we moved on, and embraced nuclear technology.
Never played any of the games but watched the series on other reactors’ channels (I follow like 5 different reactors 😂🙈). But Fallout is amazing. You’re gonna freakin love it! 😎👍
I've played 3, New Vegas, 4, and 76. I've tried to play the first two games but struggled to get hooked like I did with the modern fallout games.
I played 1, 2, and 4. Fallout 1 and 2 are still my favorites since I was a kid when they came out and I have lots of fond memories of those games, though Fallout 4 was also great.
This show captures the nature of the games so well. From the powerfully sad "is it your thumb or mine?" to laughing about "cousin stuff".
Bethesda games, maybe. Not Fallout games.
Fine, I'll watch the season again for like the 20th time. 😁
I'll be watching it many times before season 2 comes out!!! 😁
If I had to bet, I would put money on you having said "Fine, I will play through Fallout(your choice on which one) again for the 20th time"....I know I have....😂
And we’re gonna have to wait …..😠😬🥴🙄🤪😋
@VerowakReacts
Always wondered. I’m assuming Verowak is your last name? 🤷🏻♂️ Is that Polish or Bulgarian or something? It sounds very Slavic. I’m Czech descent on my dads side and German descent on my moms side.
Our family came over to the US in 1871 from a tiny village in Moravia (southeastern region of Czech Republic) tiny village called Archlebov. One of my great great ancestors was a tailor and wrote poetry in his spare time. The local museum over there has his picture and some of his writings on display in one of the exhibits. 😎
same
Here a few nonspoiler things:
* This is an alternative Timeline, where instead of the Microchip and Computers, their tech focused extremly on Nuclear Energy (EVERY Car had a small Nuclear Generator build in), but kept the Style of the 50s, Despite "The End" being in 52 Years (2077).
* This show plays in the same Area as Fallout 1 & 2, but later (so watching this will give minor spoilers for those).
* This show is awsome for both sides, so if you played the Fallout Games, you will notice a ton of easter eggs, but if you haven't, the show doesn't require you to have any knowledge of this world or games.
From what it looks like, you’ll actually learn more of the game lore as the TV series goes on.
well its not really that they focused on anything its the fact they didn't invent the transistor when we did.
Not only that but they followed an analog computing path rather than the digital style we adopted after the transistor. It's why they have robots and AI. Pretty much an alternate tech tree where everything is big and bulky, but offers a hell of a lot more functionality.
From time to time, the characters will do something strange and then you realize that they are actually following game logic.:) They are fun bits to spot.
Like getting stabbed by your husband and curing it with a weird syringe. (That’s a Stimpak and how you can heal in the games. )
As far as I know, vaults 31, 32, and 33 are the only three vaults to be interconnected. All of the vaults were already built BEFORE the bombs dropped which was in 2077. The Brotherhood of Steel is a militaristic cult-like organization.
Small correction, the bombs dropped in 2077.
@@kenetick85 I don't know why I keep getting the year date wrong!
"Looks like Benjamin from Lost." 😂
At least I didn't have to scroll to find this comment lol.
“Retro-Futurism” is the term for the aesthetic so you completely nailed it in the first couple minutes! It’s one of my favorites, despite never playing these games. I’ve always loved the Jetsons-meets-older designs.
This particular style of retro-futurism is described as "Raygun Gothic," with (ruined) examples of Googie architecture, and the automobiles in that first scene was pretty seriously evoked "populuxe" design aesthetics.
And the science is very much "weird science," as opposed to the science of the (much less fun) really-real world. 🙂
@ Raygun Gothic may be one of the most badass terms I’ve ever heard
The boy that does "Thumbs up" is known as Vault boy! he's on all the posters, in all the slogans. He's there to make you feel reassured about your future in the wasteland!
And bobbleheads are collective items you can find - at least in the 3D titles. I'd guess not in the first two due to the lack of graphical details.
24:40 I always love seeing new people who haven’t played the games react to the scene here with the baby doll leg. The gun the guy used is like a junk launcher, in the fallout games you can get this thing and use any junk you find as the ammunition and it’s really funny xD
Fallout Shelter apparently does have the Junk Jet too, which is in Fallout 4. Fallout 3 had the Rock-It launcher. Not sure if she ever got one.
@@Dark__Thoughts Oh yeah! I almost forgot about the Rock-It Launcher! ^^ I loved that quest.
12:26 The Real tragedy is that Dress. More than 200 years old, a rich beautiful history to it and now... it has a Tear and Bloodstain.
I was going to say that the real tragedy is all the lives lost 🤣
@@VerowakReacts Lives are cheap in the Wasteland.
Eh, it'll buff right out. 😉
But created a fabulous Cosplay idea for generations :D
That design of Lucy, barefoot in that bloody wedding dress with the belt & tranq-gun is fucking rad though. Gave me Alice: Madness Returns vibes (check out the artwork for that game).
Unlike a lot of other show adaptations, this one is actually canonical to the game universe, so you'll see a lot of video game logic in here (like Stimpaks healing all minor wounds etc.) to make it fit. As someone who's been playing the games since the first one, they did a really good job. The look, feel, writing and humour are all pretty much spot on. Hope you enjoy the ride!
The music from the game too. Really well done.
It violates Fallout universe and canon at every opportunity, not to mention violating its own laws (power armor which can kick giant rocks, gets overpowered by a bear) and introducing new nonsense (like ghouls needing a drug to survive).
I'm really enjoying playing Fallout 1 after having started this, I get to see some easter eggs already 🤩
@@shihonage It doesn't. Presenting new information is not the same as violating canon. It's just... New information. It's part of the world building that every game adds to. I highly recommend going and checking out the videos about the TV series from Fallout creator Tim Cain...
@@ArmouredPhalanx I get the impression @shihonage has little interest in any new information, or any opinion except his own.
He's the kind of guy who comes into threads just to have an excuse to whine and gripe, because he thinks it makes him seem smarter and cooler than everybody else. 🙄
Verowak, the Fallout Universe is a retro futuristic setting. The bombs fell in canon in 2077. But culture hadn't really changed since the 1950s/1960s.
And so the present in Fallout deliberately matches what people in the 1950s expected the future to look like (at least from their movies and TV shows), including the robots, weapons, electronic tech, atomic cars, and - ultimately - even some of the monsters like giant ants to increase the irony.
The scene in which Maximus receives a promotion is a real masterpiece of Aaron Moten's acting. So many different emotions in just a few seconds.
Yes! I'm still not sure if he did it or not. I personally want to think that yes he did 😈
@@VerowakReactsTBH I think him being so good at it actually harms the show, accidentally. 😂 You're supposed to be unsure of him and experience his arc through the lens of that uncertainty, but I've seen so many people decide "he's evil/selfish" in Ep1, and it completely corrupts their view of him for the rest of the season. They just disregard everything else he does and stay in that mindset right through.
I can't wait to watch you on this journey. You are asking all the questions and you are going to love trying to figure it out. It's also fun to see you venture into reacting to TV series instead of movies. I'll be patient and wait until you are (mostly) done with Fallout before begging for other shows to appear on the channel. ;-)
I definitely want to do more TV series, I just need to get an editing rhythm down haha
I think you'll love this series! Very exciting!
I'm absolutely loving it so far, it's amazing!!
One of the things I admired about the writing in this show is that pretty much everything has a reason for happening, or being there.
You might not *know* the reason at the time you see it, but nearly anything that would make you go "huh?" or small things that seem insignificant turn out to have been breadcrumbs, hints and easter eggs. Watching the series through again is a totally different experience.
Yes!!!! I'm so happy that you are making these available on UA-cam 😊😊.
In the series Vaults 31-32-33 are connected, there is a reason you'll find out later. Vaults are normally separate from each other.
The delivery of your "Lucy's got a gun" was impeccable. Can't wait for season 2.
Same!!! Season 2 cannot come soon enough lol
Retrofuturism was done correctly in Fallout and Fallout 2, imo. It was the future, as envisioned by the people from the 1950s. Bethesda went a different direction when they took over, and everything was just sort of stuck in the 1950s.
The game accurate details go far beyond just Easter eggs. The houses and cities, every object sitting on a desk or on a shelf, the weapons, the logos and products... it's really amazing.
This is a TV series that perfectly captured the dark humor (and even the gameplay) of the game. The original game was just 500 MB but the writing and humor were so spot on, I consider it one of the best games ever created. We get to see the creation of the NCR - the New California Republic because of the actions of the Vault Dweller from Vault 13, who was tasked in retrieving a water chip for the dying Vault. We also got as far as Reno, Nevada.
By the time of the newer FO games, we get to see what is left of Washington, D.C. (Fallout 3), Las Vegas, Nevada (Fallout: New Vegas), and Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (Fallout 4).
We know from the game lore that there are 122 vaults that were built by Vault-Tec scattered throughout the United States before the bombs dropped. Lucy MacLean’s vault is apparently close to Santa Monica in Los Angeles. According to the timeline, it takes place a decade from the start of Fallout 4 quest line.
Welcome to the Fallout universe. Enjoy the ride!
Are you kidding me? This series has absolutely nothing to do with Fallout 1. You've never played Fallout 1. Fallout 1 had real atmosphere, character consistency, believable worldbuilding and quality writing. It was also not "wacky", it was hard sci-fi. None of those qualities are present in this clown show.
I'm really loving the dialogue options in Fallout 1!! 🤣
The one thing this show probably could have done better for newbies is give some indication that this is an alternate future based on a what if from the past. Ie, the transistor doesn't get invented soon after WW2 so there are no transistor-based computers until much later, close to when our story starts in 2077. So they have ancient computers and tech that relies on transistors, but they have excelled beyond our present day atomic power, medicine and (somehow) robotics. Things are very 50s in aesthetic but every now and then something is very advanced. And that was how the world was when the bombs dropped in the world of Fallout.
This is the show that got me playing Fallout3 & FO4 & FO London. The actress who played Janey is so good, I hope they bring her back for season 2.
I hope you've enjoyed them!!
Great show with great writing. They totally captured the spirit of the games, especially Fallout 4. Walton Goggins is terrific as The Ghoul
That's great to hear! Since starting to play Fallout 1, I noticed a few things that were taken from there!!
Think of Raiders as a motorcycle gang. Tight leather, mohawks, drugs, alcohol, tattoos, piercings, baseball bats with nails hammered into the barrel, rigged up handheld chainsaws, who will kill you for your bottle of water or teddy bear 🧸 😂
*An extreme post-apocalyptic motorcycle gang 😅
"In 219 years they built all that underground..."
Vaults were built by Vault-Tek prior to the war. While some residents may have added on in places afterward, most are as they were pre war. Not all are interconnected, either. Different vaults had different focuses. You go into that somewhat in the series and a lot in the games.
The opening to this first episode is 10/10
They set things up so well!!
Hey there. Enjoyed your reaction to this, and mostly just wanted to say thanks for sharing!
More specifically - and I think safe to say without any spoilers -
- I've seen quite a few reactions to this episode and very few people seem to pick up that the ghoul in the last scene is in fact the same cowboy we saw at the start of the episode, let alone remembering that his name was "Cooper". So props for observation there!
- You mentioned thinking that there were probably lots of in-game spoilers or easter eggs for people who have played the games. Just in terms of what you've seen in episode 1, I think it's safe and non-spoilerish to say that - firstly, the look of all sorts of things in the vault, in particular stuff like the huge vault door, the "pip boy" arm gadgets that the vault dwellers all wear - it's all A++ true to the design and function in the game. As is pretty much everything you see on screen come to that. Secondly, that big medical syringe Lucy jabs herself with after being stabbed, that pretty much insta-heals her, is also found in-game as a "stimpak". Basically the fallout world's version of your standard first person shooter style - "give me X amount of hit points back" healing kit 🙂And again, it absolutely looks in the show just like it looks in the game.
Once again, thanks for the reaction!
My pleasure! I'm loving learning about this world through the show. Having played a lot of video games, I love that they have a healing potion that works wonders 🤣
So far, I'm absolutely loving this show, they are doing such a great job with it!!
"Gonna need more horsepower than that.😊" Nice.😂
This is how quality fantasy series are made! Not a single second of boredom.
I haven't watched this show yet (or played the games) but I like the aesthetic and tone so far. And once you said Jinx that's all I could hear lol...
I never played Fallout, but even without any background, this was a great show. The plot is really good, with lots of twists and is entertainingly twisted.
I love that it's for those who have played the games AND those who haven't played the games 🥰
@VerowakReacts Watching reactions, I've learned about some of the game references, but watching without knowing was seamless.
I finally got the significance of the poster. Oh, those cheeky bastards.
Never played any of the games but this was 2024's most pleasant surprise
10:23 Monte's Python
Welcome to the Wasteland! Glad you're uploading these here! I've played Fallout ever since 1997 and this show perfectly captures the dark humor and violent nature of the franchise.
I've been loving the dialogue options in Fallout 1 🤣
Aren’t they great? 🤣 I’ll check out your Twitch streams and hopefully join a live one 😊
@@WadeWallenstein Every Sunday at 2pm EST! Though I plan on editing the streams very lightly and putting them on UA-cam, so I'll make a post when that happens :D
For those huge "Fallout" fans, be sure to check out photos online of the actual "Filly" village mockup built in Austin to promote the show in March 2024. I got to go and they gave me a custom Vault 33 pin and 'real' Nuka Cola!
That sounds so fun!!!!
I'm happy you're reacting to this series.
If first-person motion sickness is a problem for you, Fallout 3, NV, and 4 can all be played in either first or third person.
Third person over the shoulder is also a problem, especially if there's combat
@VerowakReacts That's too bad.
If you enjoy Fallout 1+2, you might consider the "Wasteland" games. The modern ones are 3D but still use the top-down camera, and the series shares a lot of DNA with Fallout.
This was the video game adaptation that finally healed my psychological wounds from seeing the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie in theatres 😂
Didn't that come out in the early 90s?! 🤣🤣🤣
@ Yes 😭
The giant golf bag is a joke about people in the game carrying dozens of guns.
My bag in Fallout 4 has 6 or 8 guns, 8 or so types of ammo, 30 varieties of food and drink, a dozen or so types of drugs, 2 dozen quest items, and some miscellaneous stuff as well. That bag looks about right.
That gun that killed that guy with the baby doll leg is called the junk jet,you can load it with all sorts of random junk you find laying around to use as ammo.the gun really kinda sucks but it’s funny to use in game
“The end” at the start as well as all the pretty puppies in this universe are all in reference to a book called “a boy and his dog the end of the world” which was one of the inspirations behind the creation of fallout. As I’m sure many have told you now though, it’s the 2070s when the bombs drop, with their world focusing on fusion power over combustion engines and sticking with the 50s aesthetic. 2:09 My favorite franchise of all time, currently getting fallout inspired sleeve done on my left leg
You have a lego X-Wing. Bonus points awarded as per "da roolz".
Four hours after posting, 2k plus views! You go girl! 🏆

Cool review on the first episode of "Fallout." I've never seen that show before, so it's cool that you were able to.
I'm loving it, it's right up my alley!
@@VerowakReacts God bless you.
The thumbs up radiation check is actually a bit of ascended fanon someone on reddit came up with. It's not actually true - thumb size and how far you hold your hand make too much of a difference. Someone did a video diving into safe distances and how they'd compare to the average thumb. generally, if it's smaller than you're thumb, the advice is true. But if it's bigger, you might still be safe.
Its the year 2077 at the start. History diverged just after ww2. Microchips were never invented they use vacuum tubes and bulkers electronics and the 50s vibes never left
Yep, the games have a "retro-future" aesthetic. Basically imagine the old 50s "World of Tomorrow" speculation came true and then got blown to heck in 2077.
For the billionth time: microchips were absolutely invented. One of the game missions is literally you looking for one. But the tech lost out to the vacuum tube. Do you think betamax or hd-dvds were never invented in the real world because they lost out to other tech?
@@zimvader25 its much asier to say "they dont exist" then "they very rare and not used commonly" ... you must be super nice at parties ...
"they not exist" is the easist to say so new people understand the universe their existience is so nieche it doesnt matter
@@zimvader25it's a water chip not microchip they were never invented sorry your wrong
History diverged before WW2, just the big changes occured then. But before that there were little changes
Fallout takes place in an alternate universe that diverged after WW2. Instead of using nuclear energy mainly for weapons, it was also used more than in our world. Because of this, nuclear fusion was mastered, even to the point of having fusion powered cars. Partly due to this, tensions rose and conflicts arose around resources, so while technology advanced, microchips never really caught on and the world was still using vacuum tube technology, which is why so many things look old even though it's actually set in the future.
Also, due to the conflicts with communist China, the 1950's red scare and the fear that any day could be your last never really went away, so while technology and society advanced, the 1950's look never went out of style, hence the 1950's appearance.
It's one of my favorite game series of all time, and the lore is done very well to the point where a lot of the overall conflicts could definitely be real.
Ghouls are people who mutated instead of dying while being exposed to heavy radiations
It gives them almost immortallity since they stops ageing and have exceptionnal healing capabilities
But their body are still decaying, hence the "scorched" skin and missing soft parts like hears and nose
Also their brain are slowly deteriorating, making them in the end become "feral"
Yes! I love this show. Very faithful adaptation
Anything Jonathan Nolan works on, is to be watched in my books!
So glad you're doing Fallout. Enjoy!
Cant wait for season 2. Glad you're watching this series. It's a surprisingly fun watch. Enjoy. Keep smiling👍🙂🇨🇦
I'm not done season 1 and I'm excited for season 2 haha
One thing that always amused me about Fallout Shelter (at least the version I played) was that you could actually set up close relatives to marry each other and have children and thus have extreme inbreeding. So I get to chuckle when Lucy vehemently states that they have rules against this for a reason.
The thing to remember watching this: its a video game adaptation, with video game logic
Hi Verowak,
I had a lot of fun watching the premier of Groundhog Day with you the other day. I am very excited to watch this with you. I watched it when it came out and liked it very much. Can't wait to go on this journey with you! take care and see you next time.
I hope you enjoy this series as much as the Premiere of Groundhog Day!! 🤩
The ferris wheel is in Santa Monica.
My knowledge of California specifics is pretty limited 🤣
Good catch on "That looks like Linus from Lost"! :)
(I made sure you had watched more episodes before writing this comment so it wouldn't be a spoiler).
Greatly appreciated!! Haha
"Cousin stuff" is so funny ^_^
This is a big one. The best series to me of last year. Enjoy the ride, it's a journey!
The cousin stuff 😂 always gets everyone 😊
best series in many many years, just epic
It took me two attempts to get through the first episode but then I was hooked!
I. Am. So. Excited.
Other people explained the basics, but just to throw in the 50s aesthetic continuing through the 21st century was an extremist thing. The "perfection" of "Americanism". Ideological purity and McCarthyism became standard.
This show came out swinging in explosive perfection. You're in for a treat and a ride! Hard for me to choose between Penguin, Fallout, Shogun, and Skeleton Crew. I think Fallout would rank #2 behind Shogun. 2024 was just bonkers good TV.
Shogun is another one that I absolutely want to see!! There were so many amazing shows in 2024 that I didn't watch, I'm hoping this year I can catch up on some
@@VerowakReacts Shogun is so good it went from being a mini-series to getting turned into a regular one! Two more seasons coming eventually!
Oh and if someone else hasn't said yet, the vaults are built before the war (which was very much our future. The vault building craze mirrored the RL fallout shelter craze in the 60s-80s. My father built one in the backyard during the Cuban Missile Crisis.)
@@nataliefaust7959 Oh nice!!! I didn't know there's going to be more Shogun!!
I have great news! In the event of a real life civilisation ending nuclear war the radiation fallout should only last a couple of weeks, maybe a month! So really no need to wait 200+ years to come out of any shelters. I hope that news cheers everyone's day. 🙂
The idea is that it's 1950s science fiction movie futuristic.
Something to note, Moldaver only has four people with her when she leaves and blows up the passageway leaving the rest of the raiders inside.
The Brotherhood of steel were created from the remains of the U.S. Army.
The bombs used were like WW2 nukes and people live in Nagasaki and Hiroshima now.
There probably are many more people than shown at the meeting, after all Lucy is shown teaching children in her interview. (possibly as many as a thousand dwellers)
No doorbell but lucy can get back in as long as she doesn't lose her Pip-boy (the arm thing)
Ghouls are mutants created from high radiation, they are tough, can regenerate and are functionally immortal.
Santa Monica is where Lucy starts.
If you want isometric fallout there's also fallout tactics, which is pretty weird but could be worth playing as well
That one came in the bundle, but it seemed very different. Once I finish the first 2, I'll see about trying that one :)
@VerowakReacts it definitely is very different. It's kind of not even canon though you can debate that. Still interesting though.
Okie dokie 👍🏻
Looking forward to this watch through!
🥰I hope it's a fun watch!!
Thank you, "Sis", for reacting to the Fallout-series ^^
You can safely play any of the games while still watching this, even if you go back to playing Fallout Shelter. There won't be any spoilers because these characters and this story is unique to the series, but it could flesh out the world a bit for you.
Fun fact: In 1969, the United States was divided from 50 states into 13 commonwealths, marking one of the earliest divergences in the Fallout universe's timeline from our own, following the aftermath of World War II. Another example is their space program, which did land humans on the moon in 1969 but not Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.
The biggest difference between our reality and the Fallout universe is how the latter embraced nuclear fusion, while our world focused on computer science. This led to the computer revolution, which ushered in the Information Age with the development of microchips that grew more powerful over time, alongside advancements in computer hardware that gave rise to smaller computers and devices. This did *not* happen in universe of Fallout.
Microchips do exist in the Fallout universe, but they were not the primary focus of scientific development, preventing them from advancing to the same extent as in our world. The Pip-Boy, a handheld computer, represents the smallest computing device in the Fallout universe, and even that was considered a major breakthrough. In contrast, it pales in comparison to a basic smartphone in our reality.
Thanks to the focus on nuclear fusion in the Fallout universe, they were able to develop fusion-powered cars, robots, and power armor that surpass what we have today. Though... I’m glad we’re not driving around in fusion-powered cars that, when damaged, can explode into a mini nuclear blast. Car crashes must be a mess in the Fallout universe, imagine the insurance on that.
You also missed that, due to the prevalence of nuclear materials, contact would be inevitable and have made HUGE strides in radiation care. Rad-X will increase natural resistance to radiation and RadAway will reverse radiation damage.
The second season can't come out quick enough. The best show I've watched since Breaking bad.
it's what's called 50's futuristic , or retro-futuristic . the whole idea is that is the future envisions from a 50's culture that never ended. the actual year it is in the "the end" is 2077 the rest of the show takes place 219 years later. in 2296.
yes the ghoul is cooper . ghouls are peopel that got a high does of radiation , but instead of killing them it left them scared and undead looking , they also live a really long time , some of them go feral after more radiation exposure . in the show they have ghouls preventing going feral by using drugs , but in the games going feral is a just a random thing.
Basic stuff about the pre-war Fallout universe: The transistor was not invented. The counter-culture revolution of the 1960's did not happen. Corporations had so much power that even discussing a labor union was illegal. I don't know if McCarthyism happened in the 50s like it did for us, but it's in full swing in 2077.
Not the 1950s, just the aesthetic. The first scene of Fallout occurs on October 23, 2077. This is an alternate universe, where nuclear power was more advanced.
To quote Obi-Wan: "You've taken your first step into a larger world."
What a great first episode, I'm glad you liked it One of the things the series was praised for was how good it was at being accessible for new fans as well as people who were already familiar with the Fallout universe and I think that's pretty true.
Looking forward to joining you on this journey through the wasteland! You twigged who the Ghoul was much quicker than I did by the way!
Having started Fallout 1, now I'm picking up some neat little easter eggs!! 🤣
Yeah. The games and show follow a different timeline than our reality. Somewhere right after WWII it split. In the games/show universe, the transistor was never invented.
I know I'm not signed up with your Patreon....but I highly HIGHLY recommend watching Resident Alien with Alan Tudyk. You'll absolutely love it.
The cultural aesthetic of the 1950s never went away but the bombs drop in 2077. This version of history is basically ours up until a point where it dramatically veers into fiction. In this version of civilization they never invented the transistor so things never really became super small.
That IS Ben from Lost lol.
21:30 "in 219 years they built all that underground stuff. It's quite remarkable."
No.
They built the vaults before the nuclear war.
Then people went inside to survive the nuclear war.
But the world was too radioactive so nobody came out for a couple centuries.
Meanwhile, some humans DID survive on the surface.
Probably in places so remote that they didn't suffer any nuclear attacks, and they survived the centuries of radioactive fallout by being in good places where the jetstream and tradewinds and other major weather patterns didn't carry as much fallout.
So you have "pure" humans in vaults, descendents of pre-war humans who never got hit with any radiation.
You have "contaminated" humans on the surface, in a world now where there isn't a lot of radiation anymore, except where the big cities used to be.
And you have many kinds of mutants, like the Ghoul you meet.
Also, this isn't our Earth.
It's an alternate universe where the nuclear war happened in the year 2077 when they had robots, powered armor, laser guns, and fusion powered cars and houses.
But they also have furniture, clothing, music, and other cultural stuff like it's still the 1950s.
The writing in this show is actually very good. Most viewers will follow what the writing wants you to think is right. They do a good job of using the personal prejudices we all have about what is right and wrong to lead you through this story. A very good plot. It is not necessarily linked to the game but the show follows game rules as far as health and recovery and radiation exposure goes. It is mostly just good fiction. Nothing really linked to a realistic look at a post nuclear world.
It's a TV series based on a video game... no one should expect a realistic look at a post nuclear world lol
@@VerowakReacts In various reactions it is funny to watch reactors say something like Lucy was stabbed and she would not recover that quick. Well its game rules. You can get a stem pack and be just fine and recover your health. They do have to remember hey its a video game.
I’m still upset that hank ruined that barrel of pickles
Welcome to the Wasteland! They did a great job on this show, can't wait for the second season!
So far, it's so amazing and intriguing!!!
I love that you are watching this. I play Fallout 4 every day. I'm close to having 9,000 hours in the game. By the way, the vaults were built before the bombs dropped.
So many people love the Fallout games, I'm hoping that means they make a lot of seasons haha
(NO SPOILERS)
This Brotherhood of Steel is from the east coast. They are the Lyons' chapter (From the 3rd fallout game).
The TRUE Brotherhood of Steel is from the west coast, where the council of elders are. due to their wars over decades with many different factions, some i cant name. they were forced to integrate into the Lyons' chapter. which as you see, are extremely zealotous and religious, despite the BoS being tech oriented, these Lyons brothers think tech to be either divine or satanical in nature.
LONG LIVE THE ELDERS! LONG LIVE THE OUTCASTS! DOWN WITH LYONS!
Radiation will dissipate over time, even weeks and certainly after two hundred years. But it also depends on the yield of the weapon and the material used, plutonium, uranium, etc. Where the bombs fell will still be a hot zone, depends on material used, yield, etc. Just look at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the cities have been rebuilt and thriving after their destruction. This is my favorite tv series, I had my doubts at first. I'm a big time Fallout fan and us gamers are used to games never given the proper treatment in movies and tv shows, this show was a big surprise. It came through
welcome to the skills and talents of Walton Goggins(Cooper Howard).. Other Notible TV shows is Justified and obviously The Shield
It seems I have plenty to watch from him then!! 😁
You have chosen wisely.
12:43 Did you just sing “Water Song/Janie’s got a gun”? Lol
19:15 😂 Better write that one down
I often think of "Janie's got a gun" while watching movies and tv series haha. Lucy just fit perfectly!
Great series so far!
No spoilers, but basically Fallout is what is known as Retro-Futurism. Basically it is based on what people in the 1950s thought the future was going to look like, and there are a lot of nods to 1950s horror and sci-fi. The in universe explanation is that they are in a different timeline where history went a different direction after World War 2, the key difference being that the transistor, which was a key item in inventing modern microchips and electronics that we use today, was never invented, but vacuum tube, which was the precursor to the transistor, and is a thing you see in old timey electronics that looks kind of like a weird small lightbulb, got a thousand times more efficient. That really isn't important, but if you don't bring it up, someone will come along and bring it up.
Other key difference, is America was a lot more fascist post world war 2, so a lot of the changes in fashion and styles that you saw in the 1960s, that upset older American norms, got pushed down hard.
I am not going to explain the Ghoul, because I think the show does a good job doing so, and I think you would enjoy learning those details more from the show than from me explaining them to you.
Oh boy, you're gonna love this show! Fallout is the best show of 2024! ❤
I get why, it's amazing!
Miss Verowak is the prettiest reactor on UA-cam 😊
🥰Thank you
1:48 If you fallout fan you know why that is scary.
PS: Btw Enclave is a remnants of US government that.. lets just say even before the war they wasn't too democratic
Please post fast. You got me excited watching it again. Please watch all the credits and pay attention to the pictures.
Is not playing the 3D fallout games due to the first person perspective, right? If so, you can go into 3rd person at any time in all of them, though that may not make it much better. That being said, I LOVE watching people play classic Fallout and so I really hope you do!!
Even third person games with combat affect me too much. I've started Fallout 1 on twitch but am going to upload slightly edited versions to UA-cam shortly. I'll be making a post when I do. So far, Fallout 1 is great!!!
@@VerowakReacts Completely understood! Checking out the VOD: You inadvertently shot Ian in the face? It's a Fallout1 rite of passage 🤣
@@maaxross9894 That's what he gets for accidentally shooting me once or twice! hahaha
I had finished Fallout 3; primarily, I was done after that.
So a bit of non-spoiler-y background information that doesn't really get explained in the show: The Fallout world basically diverges from ours in the 1940s. Transistor-based technology (specifically micro-transistors, the things that make computers and any compact advanced electronics possible) is never invented. This is why everything is big and chunky and looks like it was designed in the 50s. Instead nuclear technology advances rapidly and becomes part of many everyday household items (the cars, for example, are all nuclear powered). This is why everything has a 1950s retro sci-fi look (and because it evokes that weird 1950s vintage optimism mixed with the ever present threat of nuclear war).
Lucy is modelled on a prototypical player character from the franchise. In many of the games you start out as a vault dweller who has to venture to the surface for one plot contrivance or another (in the very first game it was because the water purification system was broken and you had to go find a part, so the show did a bit of a nod to that). The montage of her explaining her skills is kind of like the character setup where you choose your stats and skills.
The syringes you see in the show are Stim-paks which are the game's major source of healing. This is one thing that I like in the show. It treats itself like it is the game. When you use a Stim-pak in the game, it heals every thing instantly.
The Brotherhood of Steel is a faction that was born out of remnants of the US military based around a pseudo-religious, militaristic tech cult. That's probably kind of obvious given their organization, but there is a direct connection back to the pre-war era, and most of their tech is ex-military from that era, just salvaged and maintained. Depending on the game/location (the games are set in several different locations around the US, with the originals set on the west coast, and the newer games on the east coast, and New Vegas set in, well, Vegas) they can range from fascistic antagonists to chivalric allies depending on the chapter. Much like the medieval knights they're based on.
The other big faction to get a mention in this episode was The Enclave. Where the BoS are remnants of the US military, The Enclave are the remnants of the US government along with anyone else they deemed worthy of surviving the apocalypse - the best and brightest of science and industry. They're a tad... elitist, as you can probably imagine, looking down on most of the other survivors, and preferring to interact and manipulate events from the shadows or a distance. Unlike the BoS who focus on collecting and preserving old world tech, The Enclave continued to innovate and advance. Stimpaks, the thing Lucy injects herself with, are the main healing item in the game. So you'll see a bit of video game logic here where a shot will cure any basic wound. And unlike a bunch of other video game adaptations, this show is actually considered canon within the same world as the games. So that's just kinda neat.
