Actually, it's far cheaper to just not have a fancy house, fancy car, or drive to fancy places. Nobody wants to rob someone who doesn't look wealthy. And you won't need a gun because nobody will see you as someone worth attacking...hahah.
It really depends on where you live. If this is happening in your neighborhood, that's a clear sign that it's time to move. Also, park your cars IN the garage. Texans seems to park in the driveway which only invites criminals.
When it takes criminals less 5 minutes to commit a crime and for cops 3 to 4 hours to respond to none emergency calls , criminals take notice and become bolder and more aggressive
They need per capita numbers, Gulfton and Sharpstown areas are dangerous but with a million people. Sharpstown area has 3 small business areas by itself. An area with a low population could be far more dangerous but get's missed because the focus is on sheer number.
If you’re from Houston, do not pump gas alone or at all in the area from Hillcroft, to W Belfort, wrap around to Gessener and then back to westpark. That whole are is well… you know. And moving up north, anywhere nort of Aldine Bender to 1960 & veterans memorial to JFK. Use common sense and whenever they tell you to not judge a book by the cover, remember us humans do it all the time.

Dude if you kill all the criminals the cops got nothing to charge their time against and their utilization goes down and they get laid off. You have to find a way to cause injury to criminals who try and harm you without taking them totally out of society leaving the cops without a job. Also don’t always assume if a hot head loud mouth is just making threats these days if some one threatens you with harm it’s better to find a quick out escape or if trapped act first and be on the offense. Learn to throw blades get accurate as can be also try baton fighting (tire thumpers) these can buy you time to get away from danger just some ideas to ponder.
Everyone can’t afford to train regularly...it’s expensive, rounds, range, etc...they can’t afford it...only wealthy people can afford that consistently, and they have security for that...

I've always been good with avoiding confrontation and just walking away from being yelled and thrown stuff at but there will be a time where someone will try to escalate regardless of what you do and I probably should be prepared for that. The point you raised is definitely true, criminals are walking away from crimes like never before its ridiculous. I've heard (might not be true) that you'd be booked for less years in jail for murder than if you were found to have a lot of marijuana which is a complete joke.
