Composed shortly before his death, this sonata by Myaskovsky stands out for the sincerity of feelings, extreme simplicity and transparency of style, richness of broad, plastic, and soft themes, which organically implement the elements of folk songs.
Miaskovsky's style has an intense, philosophical, and at the same time, extremely lyrical character. It is possible to feel influences from Tchaikovsky's late romanticism, Stravinsky and Prokofiev's modernism, and Debussy's impressionism and strong influence from Rimsky-Korsakov and Scriabin.

Thank you so much for this. This sonata gave me the motivation to pick up the cello again after many years and helped me to cope when my grandmother and father passed away within five months of each other back in 2020. I'm picking up your dynamics and some fingerings that aren't in my edition, because your rendition is just beautiful.

Myaskovsky is one of my very favorite composers. Lovely performance of this piece. The USSR produced some truly breathtaking music. Will be returning to this often
