  • Restoring and customizing the Majorette Diecast Tractor Nº208 1/65 I've had since my childhood. I never liked its wheels, so with my Anycubic Photon 3D Printer I finally was able to 3d design and 3d print new wheels for it

    as a 3d modeller, it would be nice to see a little more of your modelling process, I can slow the video down, but if the video is already in timelapse i'm just slowing down the few frames we get. Its nice to see how other artist approach models. great work.

    Brilliant result. 3D printing is the new way to replace broken plastic parts on diecasts. Diecasts use stock wheels, probably to cut costs, but they are a compromise in looks. Your printed wheels bring the casting up from toy to scale model in appearance.

      Thanks! Yeah especially since there is a wave of affordable resinprinters now, and they are just getting better

    • @railtrolley
      @railtrolley 5 років тому +1

      @@agepbiz I'm learning about 3D printing. Resin printers make a finer resolution model than the PLA type printers. Resin is a good model making medium. I have a number of open wagons and vans, that I have owned since the early 1990's, on my model railway. They were cast in resin in a die / mould. PC's were only desktop XT types back then. Resin models last a long time if they are looked after carefully. My resin wagons run around the layout fine, and they are coupled to factory manufactured "ready to run", and also kit built styrene plastic models.

    • @pepperthekobold
      @pepperthekobold 5 років тому

      @@agepbiz Perhaps pick up some cheap, unrestored models to test with, if you particularly care about this tractor. The engine and various vents and grills in particular would benefit from a shade which is why i mentioned it.
      The way I use it is pretty simple. I dip my brush straight into the pot, wipe off some so as to avoid drips and excess and then apply it with short strokes, but you can work it into areas too. Generally it will settle in low spots and flow away from high spots. You can also use paper towels, tissues or old socks to wipe off any areas you wish, as it's not a paint and doesn't smear. There are quite a few decent guides on the internet, including some from Citadel themselves.
      Some Agrax Earthshade would also look nice on the wheels and possibly lower body areas. It's essentially Nuln Oil, but brown.

    • @agepbiz
      @agepbiz  5 років тому +1

      The wheels has always annoyed me, even when I was a kid. They did not have any realistic threads, and the rim was ugly. For me this was the challenge if I was able to make them more realistic while still keeping the metal and rest of the plastic. I guess I could have modelled a more detailt body to match the wheels as well, but then it would no longer be an restoration and customizion of an old toy. I've had the tractor on my shelf for many years awaiting to be fix, but my old FDM printers has not been detailed enough to pull it off. For me this is about the process as it is the end result
