In this shocking ad for FIGS Limited Edition Neon Pink basic scrub pants, subtle microaggressions are displayed, where a female physician struts into the frame wearing a DO badge, then flips thru an upside down book titled “Medical Terminology for Dummies.” This ad has enraged female physicians and DO-trained physicians nationwide. #notawesome
This didn’t even make sense as a compelling reason to buy their scrubs

I will be directing my entire office and residency program to think twice before ordering scrubs from Figs. I am a proud female physician and DO. So shameful that anyone thought that this ad was acceptable!
DO says he didn't admit that Trump was put on oxygen because "I didn't want to give any information that might steer the illness in another direction." So do all DO's that if you say patient is on O2 to people his covid will get worse or is just a bad example of a DO?

@@pfc_church have you ever had or heard of an MD trained doctor saying something wrong??? I have. Does that mean that all MDs are bad doctors??? Absolutely not. Just like you do not group one bad chef with all chefs, one bad mechanic with all mechanics, one bad teacher with all teachers, etc... MD and DO medical schools have all they same core classes and requirements. I studied for 4 years in medical school passing all the same exams MD doctors pass + learning osteopathic manipulation on top of that. So did all of my DO colleagues. I then studied 3 years in pediatric residency, spent 1 year as Pediatric chief resident, AND then obtained extra training as a fellow at Cornell for pediatric gastroenterology. This all while being a proud DO.

As an MD student I was outraged. Some of the smartest people I know are in DO school. I just had a friend who scored 93rd percentile on his Step 1 from a DO school. I doubt I could do that. The stigma is so stupid and I am upset. I personally go to a DO primary care too and he’s the best doc I’ve ever had.
Returning my FIGS scrubs and sending a carefully worded email. I will no longer support this foolish company.

I am not a D.O. But I do work in healthcare. I know how much education it takes to become a physician or clinician of any sort. I know how many sacrifices we make to become doctors of osteopathic medicine, or optometrists, or dentists, or radiologists or nurses or anything else. We have people’s lives and well being in our hands and we work hard. We work hard to get there, and we work hard after we do. Why would anyone want to insult that?

Female DO physician here. What completely blows my mind is they had to put the effort into finding a book that says “medical terminology for dummies” have it be upside down, and then zoom in on the DO tag? This is not an accident by any means and it’s completely disturbing and disrespectful. So disappointed in Figgs and will spread the word to never buy from their company again.
Delighted to say I just purchased a pair of Jaanuu scrubs because of this egregious insult. My fellow physicians (both MDs and DOs) will work hard to not support businesses who degrade our decades of dedication and service to patients by portraying us as anything less than intelligent.

I’ve been an anesthesiologist for 24 years. The idea of buying scrubs or worse, washing my own scrubs never made any sense to me.

My husband and I were both converted to Figs. With at least 30 more years in our careers, and many sets of scrubs in our futures, we won't be buying Figs anymore. I am going to make sure my colleagues that also wear Figs see this ad. In a time when we should be celebrating our differences and respecting each other as equals, this was in very poor taste and is not a good look for Figs.
This is not the first time this company has put out offensive marketing. I do not accept any apologies and/or misunderstanding.

This FIGS ad is genuinely revolting. Not just because of the obvious sexism but also because they chose a DO name tag. What was the motivation here? To completely alienate a quarter of physicians in training? (DOs) Over half of physicians in training? (Women) Or was the target every single physician in the country since excellent female physicians and DOs are found in every specialty in every hospital and residency program in the country?
Could you kindly explain what’s offensive? What’s a DO? We don’t have that where I come from. Our medical degrees are called MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery). So I don’t really understand where the disrespect is? Isn’t DO also a medical degree? A doctorate? Was it due to the book itself or was the ad a stab at DOs? Genuinely would like to understand. @@Farrahcourtney You are correct. DO in the US is the same as MD in the US. Both are medical degrees that produce physicians. That’s why it was offensive to combine the DO badge with reading the book upside down.

Same user posted a video of a similar video w/ a male RN. This video is extremely distasteful (I am a D.O. and because of the constant stigma against us, it's hard not to have some sort of emotional response to this video), ESPECIALLY in the current climate where politics has lead to people and the media discrediting D.O.s. But if that video with the male RN in the scrubs is also from Figs, it may well have been them "dropping the ball" and choosing a very poor time to start representing the D.O.s.

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Similar training to MD but with some added whole body and manipulative stuff. Both MDs and DOs work as equals in every speciality in Medicine and often do the same residency programs. A DO could explain it better.

Like a month ago when I was purchasing Figs, there was a male model doing a similar thing. That book is supposed to be a funny prop for a photo shoot. Good grief people are just looking for reasons to get angry, peak 2020.
