Rapid technological change in contemporary societies is often linked to increased levels of psychological stress as individuals try to cope with displacement and social fracture. However, there is also a growing trend of people turning to meditation and mindfulness as ways to seek inner peace and harmony with nature.
The Xi-yuan Art Museum is excited to present the unique and thought-provoking "Meditation Series" by Lee Hui-Chi. This series is an extension of her acclaimed "Mountaineers' Dialogues" series, and it probes the present moment from a distinct perspective. Lee's process involved collecting strands of hair from barber shops, cleaning them, and observing their interwoven patterns to suggest parallels with natural landscapes. She employs Eastern cultural thinking and techniques to explore the mind in a serene and contemplative manner. Lee's intricate depictions of the intertwined forms of human hair, with their profound Zen-like elegance, transform the materials into poetic symbols. Her drawings expand the meanings of the images, offering a unique and engaging experience for viewers.
Drawing allows artists to express their understanding and perception of the world. When diverse perspectives are represented, they point to more varied realities. Lee Hui-Chi uses drawing to record her thoughts and emotions based on visual observations. She realistically presents the essence of objects through her observations of reality, integrating imagination and exploring different stages of life. The "Meditation Series" invites viewers to reconsider time, directly and intimately connecting the past and summoning the future with each pencil mark.
The exhibition is an opportunity to appreciate art, focus on the present moment, establish inner peace and balance, and become a mirror for self-reflection through the images. It provides a break from fast-paced life, a moment to let thoughts and bodies meet again. We invite you to experience this unique blend of art and mindfulness and discover a new way to find peace in the chaos of modern life.
