  • Is someone's life ever going to change after listening to the 5th symphony of Beethoven or the 4th one of Tchaikovsky? Well... In fact, listening is not really enough, says conductor Martim Sousa Tavares in his inspiring talk about arts.
According to Martim, art does not provide anything if a consumer receives it in a passive way, and so he explains his own relation to art and proposes how we all could benefit more from it. Martim Sousa Tavares was born in Lisbon, where he started studying piano at the age of 8. He completed a degree in musical sciences at the Nova University of Lisbon in 2012. He also has a three-year orchestra conducting diplomas from the Italian Conducting Academy and the Conservatory of Brescia. He then moved to Chicago, where he completed a master’s degree in orchestral conducting with academic honors under Victor Yampolsky at the Northwestern Bienen School of Music in 2018. He conducted and worked with orchestras from Portugal, Italy, United Kingdom, Lithuania, USA, Taiwan and Russia This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
