Hi, just wanted to share something I do with mine. When I I remove the any dried flowers I place them directly around the base of my pepper plants on top of the soil & now I have extra free Thai basil seedlings without much effort. I think they germinate well because of the richer soil. I've done this in the past with marigold flowers too. It's an easy way to get free plants. ( Sue Lisson )
Pick up a pack of 1 lbs of Thai basil 🌿 put it in water for a few days. Planted it in my herb compost 3-year old heavy raised bed and in 5-7 days . I have roots . Blown away
Khang I am going to have to try Thai basil. Grown sweet Italian, lemon, and Rubin but not Thai Basil and I've heard a lot about it. Thanks for the great information.
The flavour of thai basil : "Widely used throughout Southeast Asia, its flavor, described as anise- and licorice-like and slightly spicy, is more stable under high or extended cooking temperatures than that of sweet basil. Thai basil has small, narrow leaves, purple stems, and pink-purple flowers." Source en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thai_basil Some people doesnt like thai basil flavour but i like it to use in tea with ginger.
Anise flavor. Bingo! When I had pho I kept asking, what is in here that taste so good? Jasmin? Anise? Mint? What is this? It was so good. I have to grow it.
I have thai basil, it tasted initially like anise + basil, now it tastes like curry leaf, maybe it's red Rubin or globe? I'm not sure why. It came with the aerogarden, so maybe there was one seed of each & the other plant is taking over. (My leaves don't look like yours, no ridges). I put them in water as a flavoring to hide the bad taste of medicine.
If you are like me, and a fan of Sweet Basil, you probably will not like Thai Basil. It smells and tastes a lot like black licorice. If I buy dried Basil, I only buy one specific brand which I know is Sweet Basil. The cheap containers of Basil, (like the 98-cent special at Walmart) are going to be Thai Basil.
True, one thing about Thai Basil is that it can become a perennial in warmer climates. And they grow so lush and beautiful. It's quite a beautiful plant.
is there a basil that is purple? A while back a basil I got at a box store was purple but it wasnt plain basil. could never figure out what it was. A lady at the store thought it was Thai basil. it had bigger purple leaves than the green ones you show. it tasted somewhat different. I just got some Thai basil seeds and others and put in a raised bed.
When we order pho I keep the Thai basil sprigs that my kids don't want and I propagate it. Such a nice easy herb to grow.
Thai basil is my favorite herb. I love to have lots of it in pho or a lot of rice based dishes.
I like to start everything from seed, I get satisfaction knowing I grew them from seed. I really like seeing them grow!
Same!

How’s did you grow them to getting that biggest plant.
Do they do well the in winter time like snowing or icy that thing.
Nope they will die in a frost
Thai basil to me tastes like a mix of mint and licorice (or fennel).
I bet it starts real easy from clippings too.
Thank you sooo much for great information. 🙋♀️👏🏻💃🏼👩🍳🐶❤️🐶

Red Rubin basil is purple
🤗
Why do they call Vietnam's basil?🤔🤔🤔
Stake.
This one is called Siam Queen.
This should be holy basil. Thai basil's leaves do not have the jagged edge.
