304 stainless steel is not magnetic at all. The magnet was likely just attracted to something ferromagnetic in the Casio's movement and push pins in the bracelet. Most stainless steels aren't magnetic at all (only a few niche grades). A quick google would have shown this.

Exactly this! This needs to be shown at the top. Austenitic stainless steel (which 304 is) is never magnetic, as opposed to ferritic and some times martensitic steels (400 series)

ok, 300 series of stainless steel is austenitic meaning the crystal orientation is non-magnetic. 400 series stainless steels are martensitic meaning they are magnetic. this atomic orientation is what dictates magnetism. series has nothing to do with quality like the commenter below says about welding, but has everything to do with application. 316 and 316l are used because of the low nickel content, nickel is an irritant to skin.

A magnet alone cannot tell if it's stainless steel: it depends on how much and how the ferrite is deposited in the grain matrix. If interested, Schaeffler diagram.

The magnet test on the stainless steel relates to my job. In construction, we are told that the stronger attraction means a cheaper stainless. No attraction means a high grade. I've often heard this from welders.
It's not always true. The Duplex stainless steel for example can be really expensive and it's magnetic. The magnetic ones are the martensitic, duplex and ferritic, but not the austenitc ones.
Depends strongly on the field ur in. I can give u steel thats not even stainless but would outperform v4a in terms of magnetization levels.

It is not about “higher” grades, it’s about choosing the best material for the application based on the characteristics of the material and intended use.
Simplest grades require 12 percent chromium this is ferritic and hence magnetic. If you want a seawater grade nickel needs to be added thats more expensive and makes the steel austenitic - not magnetic. Duplex is in a mix usually 50/50 ferritic/austenitic and therefore magnetic due to the 50 percent ferrite.
Austenitic 304 steels are generally soft and sea water corrosion resistant - and not magnetic.
Choosing the proper steel grade is due to requirements and cost. 904 for example utilises addition of molybdenium also.
Austenitic steels are soft and hence more difficult to polish and keep sharp edges.
I’d say the real inspiration for this Casio are the late 70s quartz Seikos, their Silverline, QT, SQ, Lord Quartz and Grand Quartz lines. The branding was all over the place back then but the design language was consistent and this Casio throws back to it.
Steel feels cold because of its high thermal conductivity. Sitting on a wooden table, both the table and the steel will trend toward room temperature, which is cooler than your skin temperature. But the wood doesn't feel cold because its conductivity is low, so the warmth of your skin flows into it at about the same rate you are used to with the surrounding air. But when you pick up a piece of steel, its higher conductivity causes your body heat to flow into it relatively quickly, and it will feel cold. However, the mass of the steel affects how much total heat it can absorb and so how much of that "coldness feeling" it can generate. A paperclip is just as conductive as a kitchen knife, but because it has so little mass, it can't absorb very much heat before it's basically the same temperature as your skin, so the paperclip won't feel as cold the way a steel object with more mass will.
My guess with this watch not feeling "cold" or not feeling as cold as some of your other watches is that it's just made with a lesser quantity of steel and so, like the paperclip, it can't absorb enough heat to give you a strong sensation of it being cold.
I have the petrol blue version and absolutely love it. But after seeing your review I'm tempted to say the pink version (which really looks more "Salmon" than "Barbie") looks even better! Tiffany however is so yesterday!

@@suprith3072 My solution was to swap the bracelet for a third party F-91W rubber strap from Ali.
The magnet is likely attracted to either the magnetic rotor or the stepper motor in the quartz module.
Accurist origin would be a great PRX alternative, would appreciate a review of one of those.

This watch looks a million times better on the bracelet that comes with the A700. The straight lines really complement the design.

@@Finn959 I have a A1000M-1BVT and I use my MTP with that milanese bracelet. I did the positive display mod on the A1000 with a A700W-1A and the linked-line bracelet from it that he mentions fits on my A1000 and MTP. There is a video on UA-cam comparing the A1000 and A700WEM-7AEF which has the milanese band instead called "Battle of the Casio Milianese" that compares those bands, the one on the A1000 is a bit better quality with thicker milanese chains but the A700 bracelet is still good. I think the milanese band from the black A1000 or the newer silver A1000MA-7EF looks awesome with its taper and it is infinitely adjustable, same as the A700's. The A1000 bracelet also has quick release spring bars which the A700s do not have, I use it all the time to switch between my watches as this bracelet fits on a lot of Casio's like my A500WA-7 as well. Casio has a lot of watches that take an 18mm lug bracelet that steps out to about 21mm, so if you like either the A1000M-1BVT or A1000MA-7EF, you can use the bands on other Casios, its the best band of that style that they make with quick release spring bars to swap easily...

304 is not magnetic NORMALLY. But when you work on it (pull it, bend it etc...) it may become magnetic. The best example is your kitchen sink - the most of it will not attract a magnet, but the bottom corners may attract a magnet.

T-304 is famously used in Borla aftermarket exhaust systems for its million-mile corrosion resistance warranty. I have one of their axle-back muffler kits on my car.
300 series stainless, like 304 and 316, is an austenitic stainless steel and is non magnetic.
Broadly speaking, stainless can be divided into the non-hardenable, more corrosion resistant, and non-magnetic types like the 300 series, and hardenable, magnetic, and slightly less corrosion resistant grades like the 400 series used for cutlery.

304 stainless steel is more to food grade steel more on thermos vacuum flask or kitchen appliances. It conduct heat faster and retain heat longer than normal stainless steel.
There are different types of stainless steel. Austenitic, Martensitic, Duplex and Ferritic. The austenitic (304) ones are not magnetic because of the austenitic composition.
As an alternative to PRX or this Casio I recommend the Seiko V743 9020 circa 2000. Good examples can be found for £50 and the watch has a quality feel.

In my view, it's most similar to the 1989 MMW-80. While the MMW-80 394 had date and day of the week, it is otherwise extremely similar.
It does seem from looking at specs that the older colour variants weigh more, so could be they cheaped out with the new ones.
The quality will still be better than the swatch over priced plastic which, my opinion

Ben, check out the Edifice EFR-S108D, an actual good tiffany integrated bracelet watch. Plus, a 35mm PRX strap fits almost seamlessly

Is the Edifice a good fit for small wrists? The MTP-B145D and smaller PRX have 35mm dials which is perfect for small wrists
@@undercovermc yes, the Edifice is 37mm in "diameter" but it's more compact in lug to lug. It wears nicely on my 6.5" wrist, unlike a 40mm PRX

The EFRS108D-2BV is a much better value for money. For a little bit more, you actually get a solid watch, Stainless steel, 10ATM, Sapphire crystal.etc.
And it comes in olive green! Such a nice watch, so I bought it directly from casio at launch MSRP
I have the black one and you can fit a 35mm PRX strap or bracelet to the Edifice, almost seamlessly. You only need 1.5mm thick, 16mm long spring bars. I got the black strap but will also get the white and the solid link bracelet. It's now a PRX killer for 1/3 of the price

Do keep in mind, not all stainless steel is ferrous enough to hold a magnet. My fridge at home won't take any magnets at all.

Did Tissot copy AP. At this point both are cheap and affordable “knock offs.” They all take inspiration from the Royal Oak. This is why we don’t say things without actual knowledge on the subject.

I have a seiko grand quarts from the late 70s that has the exact same hooded lugs with chamfered edges.
304 is used commonly in food items like steel plates and some thermos (not the brand) and baking sheets etc
I have this watch, I’ve never had this much trouble adjusting the size of the bracelet. There is another Casio I’m passing on because it has the same bracelet

Casio doesn’t make bad watches. Everything they produce has a certain level of quality and practicality. Despite it being the most sold watches in the world, ironically it’s also the most underrated.

Love the channel but I just had to drop you a note. As a professional watchmaker and certified Machinist I can tell you that the two main alloys used in watchmaking of stainless steel, 316 and 304, are not ferromagnetic and will not stick to magnets.
I have a sizable chunk of 316 in my machine shop and a magnet won't even try to stick to it. It's about as magnetic as the aluminum and brass stock I have. The magnet has no problem sticking to the cast iron of my milling machine.
With the magnet sticking to the bracelet and the watch back, it's probably not actually sticking to the stainless but it's attracted by the pins in the bracelet and the plain steel components in the watch movement.
Also sticking magnets to watches is incredibly bad frm even if it's a quartz. I don't think a magnet will hurt a quartz watch but knowing mechanical watches like I do it makes me really uneasy even to see it happen 😬
Hope this helps. The non-magnetic nature of the case actually makes me think it probably is stainless, though of course nickel plated brass is not particularly magnetic either 😂
Damn, just get a quartz PRX for $250 okay maybe not Tiffany blue but I'd consider most other colors an upgrade.
Better buy the edifice Tiffany, will cost you few extra bucks but sapphire glass and way better durability
Stainless steel is a blanket name in a sense as there are different types of stainless steel. Austenitic stainless steels are non-magnetic due to high levels of austenite.
Stainless steel can be grouped into 5 different types. Some are magnetic but most are not.
Listening to you I bought the vintage gunmetal A168WEGG-1BEF from UK, paid the unreasonable price for it l, paid the visa tax for it as well.
While it’s not in the same price bracket, casio edifice released a 40mm, sapphire glass watch with a solid integrated bracelet and clasp for £120. For a £50 difference, I don’t think this release makes sense in terms of build

EFB-108 is another lovely $100 Casio, gorgeous integrated bracelet, sapphire crystal, lovely brushed finishing. Only comes in Black and Silver/White, but really comfortable and a nice sports watch look.

Do magnets stick to stainless steel?
Austenitic stainless steels, which are commonly used in household appliances, contain nickel and are generally non-magnetic. Ferritic and martensitic stainless steels, on the other hand, contain higher amounts of iron and are magnetic.

interesting. ive just picked up Accurist's Origin 34mm in quartz, which would be a direct competitor to this watch, for £80 direct from Accurist. It has sapphire to casio's mineral glass, and a much nicer bracelet with solid links and quick release. Also a superior 100m WR to this casio's 50, while using a comparable Miyota movement. Also came in a nice faux saffino leather 2 watch travel roll, which would be a nice thing to have for anyone entering the hobby. depending on colour choice you can even have a waffle dial, something you only get on the powermatic 80s with the PRX.
I know you've previously covered an Accurist on the channel, but I think you might want to give their Origin line a look.

I have also used a casio mtp 1374 which was purchased back on 2018 also has sus304. Actually casio produces some of the best affordable watches.
I believe the higher level of chromium content in the stainless steel prevents it from being magnetic. Similar to a stainless steel refrigerator

The Tiffany blue looks a bit odd on the Edifice imo...i prefer this more streamlined effect.

304 stainless steel is more magnetic than 316 stainless steel due to it not having molybdenum which is present on the 316 variant. Though both 304 and 316 stainless steel are austenitic in nature.

As to whether SS is magnetic or not, depends upon the proportion of Carbon vs Nickle mix of the SS.
The more Carbon the more magnetic, the lower the grade of SS.

For me this casio will be great if she were an automatic...if seiko,orient or citizen have quartz and also automatic i dont understand why casio never made one,they will probably increase more the sucess of the brand with automatic and economic models...please casio think about it

But unfortunately this Casio "PRX clone" is just one of the cheapest watches Casio could possibly put together in a remote Chinese factory.
I cannot even vaguely fathom why anybody would fork out $50 or more for one, but that's just me. Just shows again that people will buy just about any crap watch as long as there is a marketing campaign for it MoonSwatch .
The biggest thing for me is the WR 50M font, it looks so cheap, horrible 😢

My experience with NKUWAN was fantastic. The watch arrived quickly and was exactly as described.
If you've ever used an induction stove top you will know that many older pns are obsolete because they are not magnetic, stainless steel in itself generally isn't magnetic. I bet you a pound to a penny with a watch is stainless both probably rice paper thin Which is not really a problem but if it's low mass it won't have any heat retaining or resisting ability.

you can tell by the brushing that it's stainless steel. Chrome plating never has that fine brushing.

Yes I agree Ben does a great job outing the BS. Unfortunately, in this case a simple google search would have told him stainless steel is largely non magnetic bar a few lesser used grades. I guess we can all make mistakes, a shame nonetheless.

I love casio, but i already see mistakes in casio specs a lot of times. The size of the new duro, the "mineral glass" o the A700.... I love the brand, having one A700 and one Gshock, but they made some mistakes as every company.
My father gifted me a casio watch, that looks just like the PRX. This happened about 20 years ago.
It looks like they're copies of rolex datejust tiffany -although there's a big difference between $35k and £80

For less money I got a Pagani Design Seamaster clone with seiko movement, stainless steel case and sapphire crystal. I like Casio but this is a bit pricey for what it is.
I would choose anything over a Chinese branded watch with a counterfeit movement.

The casio MTP145 is based off an old casio from the 70s/80s called the MQ-336. So it aint a clone.
