    1. Sermon Category and General Problem
This sermon is classified as "Mystical Encouragement." It emphasizes experiential spirituality and practical application, encouraging believers to embrace divine promises and spiritual gifts through faith and interaction with God.
    General Problem with the Category:
Mystical Encouragement sermons often lean into subjective experiences, making it difficult for all hearers to connect unless balanced with clear Scriptural exposition and explicit distinctions between Law and Gospel.
    2. Severity of the Law and Gospel Clarity
    Law's Severity:
The Law is softened in this sermon. Though hearers are encouraged to pray, access God's promises, and live transformed lives, the sermon does not fully confront the hearer with their inability to fulfill these imperatives apart from divine intervention.
    Gospel Clarity:
The Gospel is highlighted throughout, emphasizing that Christ’s death on the cross fully secured every spiritual need for eternity. However, the sermon leans more on implications of the Gospel (what believers can now do) than on direct proclamation of the Gospel (what Christ has done).
    3. The Three Uses of God's Law (% of use in sermon):
Mirror (Theological): 20% - Exposes the listener’s spiritual deficits (e.g., failing to engage with God’s promises).
Didactic (Moral Guide): 80% - Encourages believers to live faithfully, meditate on Scripture, and pray effectively.
    Civil Restraint: Not utilized.
    4. Semi-Pelagianism Check
While the sermon affirms Christ’s finished work on the cross and God’s sovereign initiative, it places heavy emphasis on human responsibility to access these promises. This focus risks implying that the hearer must initiate or complete their faith journey through personal effort, skirting the edge of Semi-Pelagianism. However, the recurring mention of God’s empowerment mitigates this concern.
    5. Scoring Diagnostic
Textual Faithfulness 7 (Scripture referenced but not deeply exegeted)
Law/Gospel Distinction 6 (Gospel clear but overshadowed by practical application)
Bondage of the Will 5 (Imprecise distinction between God’s work and human effort)
Christ-Centered Focus 7 (Jesus is central, but focus shifts to human response)
Pastoral Application 8 (Encouraging, practical application throughout)
Theological Integrity 7 (Mostly sound but risks overstating human responsibility)
    Total Score: 40/60 = Grade: B-
    Summary
This sermon offers a rich, encouraging perspective on the Christian life, emphasizing divine provision and spiritual authority. However, it underemphasizes the severity of human inability and the exclusive sufficiency of Christ’s work. The focus on experiential engagement and practical application provides value but risks shifting the hearer’s reliance from God’s grace to personal effort. Improved distinction between Law and Gospel and a more direct proclamation of Christ’s saving work would enhance its theological robustness.

Wow... so, I wonder how would you score Jesus' sermon on the mount? And gee, I don't seem to recall Jesus or anyone else in the entire Bible, for that matter, ever teaching or advocating, let alone performing such a criticism. You must have attended a highly renowned cemetery, er, seminary! You really should read Galatians chapters 3 and 5 and then ask yourself how Paul would rate your "theological" (MAN'S study of God) critique. Jesus: EVERYONE who came to him was healed; Paul, unusual miracles wrought by his hands, etc., total number of healings, unknown; Bill Johnson and those whom he's made disciples of Christ, thousands, if not 10's to 100's of thousands, maybe even millions worldwide, healed; You? Hmm... but you're sure PROUD of your ability to judge and critique, (i.e. accuse and condemn), just like your father, the devil, the father of lies and accuser of the brethren! Did I get that right? How close or far off was my assessment, do you think? I think Paul said something about no longer acknowledging (judging) people according to the flesh, because God has perfected us in our spirit/inner man, and that is what God sees and how He NOW sees us, ever since the cross, actually, oops- correction: from before the foundations of the world. "There is therefore NOW, NO CONDEMNATION to those who are in Christ Jesus."
Don't allow your critique or assessment of grace to turn into legalism, which it appears very clear that you've done. That only makes one a "grace snob."
      So be careful. Just saying...

Thank you for engaging with the diagnostic. I appreciate your passion for Scripture and your desire to defend those who preach God’s Word. However, it’s crucial to clarify that evaluating a sermon is not about condemning individuals or belittling the work of the Spirit but about holding preaching accountable to the biblical standard. Faithful preaching, as modeled by Christ and the apostles, involves rightly dividing Law and Gospel to lead hearers from conviction of sin to the comfort of Christ’s finished work.
On the Sermon on the Mount
Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is perfect because He is God in the flesh. Yet even there, Jesus uses the Law in its fullest severity. He declares that righteousness surpassing that of the scribes and Pharisees is required and intensifies the Law by addressing thoughts and intentions (e.g., equating hatred with murder, lust with adultery). This demonstrates the mirror use of the Law-showing humanity’s inability to meet God’s standard and pointing to the need for a Savior (Himself). Thus, Jesus not only preaches the Law but embodies and fulfills the Gospel.
      On Judgment
You mention Galatians 3 and 5, which underscore that salvation is by grace through faith, not works. Our diagnostic aligns with this: it highlights how sermons must point listeners to trust entirely in Christ’s work, not in their own effort to “access” His promises. Constructive critique of preaching is not akin to satanic accusation but a response to biblical exhortations like 2 Timothy 2:15, where Paul charges Timothy to “rightly handle the word of truth.”
      On Miracles
Miracles, whether through Jesus, Paul, or faithful servants today, testify to God’s power and grace. However, miracles must not overshadow the Gospel message. The apostles emphasized that signs point to Christ crucified and risen as the heart of salvation, not to human achievements or faith as a prerequisite for God’s favor (1 Corinthians 2:2).
      On Accusations of Pride
It is not prideful to examine preaching against Scripture. Acts 17:11 commends the Bereans for testing even Paul’s teaching by the Word. Our analysis seeks to uphold Christ’s supremacy in preaching, ensuring sermons do not obscure His work with undue emphasis on human response.
In summary, the diagnostic was offered to encourage growth in fidelity to Scripture and proclamation of Christ. The aim is not to diminish anyone’s ministry but to uphold the Gospel’s clarity and comfort, for the sake of all who hear. Thank you for raising these points; I hope this clarifies our intentions.
