Strings are an important part of the "gear sound chain." In this video I'm answering one of the most common questions I get...plus some cool sound demos :-)
As someone mentioned a slap bass video would be great. Maybe a snippet from "Can't find the time" from Nip it in the bud. Absolutely killer slap solo on that track.
Stunning tone & lines Joe!!! I use D'Addario nickle wound (EXL170TP) 45/65/80/100 - I like them, 2 sets @ £33... My biggest problem is affording strings - bassically I can't afford to replace as needed. I'm boiling 4/5 times per set!
@@besse473 First time for me. I seem to remember Joe asking if people were interested in his doing a tutorial vid on slap. I don't think it ever happened? Not enough yes votes perhaps or did I just miss it?
I thought this was going to be a compare contrast discussion around the different types of strings, but no, just a plug for some Italian custom string company.

In the pocket. Maybe a “Slap essential groove course / book” sometime. The future?

Okay, I'll put something together!
I love the way you groove. The way you ride the beat and your choice of syncopation. Very groovy
Thanks Jerry!
Cool slapping, Joe! Great sounding strings, too. But can I end my love affair with D'addario nickel-wounds..?
Ehhh...probably!
Sounds great. I use La Bella nylon wound strings
Great!
Jackknife! BB’s from Straphangin’

@@besse473 Yes!
interesting, might worth a try...
Absolutely!
Ha! I restarted the video 6 times just to watch that tasty bass lick.
Haha- I thought a few people might be doing that!
Nice!
What modulation effect pedal were you using during the Slap Bass section?
Sounded real tasty.. 😎
Cheers- it's an Eventide Chorus with a smidge of reverb.
Nice..!! Is there a compressor on the bass.?
Thanks Michael! On the slap bass groove I've got a little 4:1 compression on there.

Absolutely - it's already in the works. Watch this space late this year.
