lyrics with translation by Tania Imran
ye na thi hamari kismat k wisale yaar hota
"It was not in our(my) destiny to meet our(my) beloved"
agar aur jeetay rehtay yahi intezaar hota
"If we(I) had lived longer then we(I) must have waited for this"
koi meray dil say pochay teray teeraye neem kash ko
"someone ask my heart, about ur empty arrow"
ye khalsih kahan se hoti jo jiger k paar hota
"There had been no emotional distress if it had passed through my liver(heart)"
kahon kis say main k kya hai shabe gham buri bala hai
"who should i tell what is it, night of sadness is very evil"
mujhay kya bura tha marna agar aik baar hota
"it wasnt bad for me to die, if it was only for once"
huye marr k ham jo ruswa hoye kyon na gharke darya
"as we got infamous after we died, why didnt we get drowned in a river"
na kabhi janaza uthta na kaheen mazaar hota
"neither had there been any funeral nor any tomb"
ye masaele tasawuf ye tera byan ghalib
"these problems of sufiism and Ghalib, this explanation of yours"
tujhe ham wali samajhte joo na baadah khaar hota.
"we should have considerd you a saint, if u hadnt been a drinker"
---------------------
another effort
Yeh na thee hamari qismat keh wisaal-e-yaar hota
Agar aur jeete rahtay yehi intezaar hota
It was never in my fate to meet my beloved.
Even if more years of life was to me allocated, I would have been still awaiting the prize cherished.
Tere waade par jiyee ham to yeh jaan jhoot jana
Keh khushi se mar na jaate agar intezaar hota
If you think that I had been living on your promise, it is a lie.
For, if I had faith in you, would not of joy I would die
Yeh kahaan ki dosti hai bane hain dost naaseh
Koi chaarasaaz hota koi ghamghuzar hota
Woe betide, my friendship, that the friends give pious advice and sermons they deliver.
I need someone on whose shoulders could I weep, who could allay my grief and my fears.
Whom should I tell that the night of sorrow is full of pangs.
I would not have resented the death, if it comes only once.
Kahoon kis se main keh kya hai shab-e-gham buri balaa hai
Mujhe kya bura tha marana agar aikbaar hota
Huay mar keh ham jo ruswa huay kyun ka gharq-e-dariya
Na kabhi janaza uthata na kahin mazaar hota
Disgraced, as I was after my death, why didn't I drown in a river or sea.
Neither, there would have been a funeral, nor tomb erected for me.
Yeh masaael-e-tasavvuf yeh tera bayan ghalib
Tujhe ham wali samajhate Joh na badaakhwar hota..
The marvels of ethical problems and your statements full of meanings.
I would have counted you, "Ghalib" amongst dearest friends of God; if only, you had not been a lover of drinks.
Uploaded 15 years ago, I must have listened to this beautiful transcendental rendition in loops. Habib Sahab's voice alone is justice to the poetry which is sung in such a manner that you do feel the pain.
Imagine Ghalib listening, could he ever stop?
Today Sept 4, 2014, he said labbaik to the call from Almighty Allah. May Allah have mercy on Habib Wali Mohammad and grant him mughfirat.

This great poetic diction of Ghalib would have faded into Oblivion had it not been sung in the voice & tune of Habibwali Mohammed Sahib. The Singer has made it an immortal lyrical cry.Through his rendition the singer has conferred the immortality both upon himself as well as upon the Great Poet Mirza Ghalib.
What a tribute
Habib Wali Mohammed Rocks! One of the best renditions of Ghalib, ever!,
This is the finest rendition of this Mirza Ghalib "Ghazal".
Sayed, Mirza inhikeliye likhkha ye Gazal.

I heard him when i was 8 or 9 years old my father had brought cassetes of him as that was the only source in 75 to 80 i had ears for good music i remember him ghulam ali and mehdi hasan sabri brothers
same pinch. I wast about 10 and we had a record - "The Best of Habib Wali Muhammad" Sahab. My father would listen to it almost every day with a drink every evening.
How I miss those times - Listening to records in the company of my late father.
Wonderfully rendered ghazal by Habib Wali Mohammed Sahab. Now I am 83 years old. I listened to it when I was 16 years old but I could neither forget Habib Wali Mohammed Sahab nor this ghazal as sung by him.
The voice justifying the poetry of a Giant in Indo-Pak. Simply, mesmerising.
I wish I could meet him in his life time.such a singer never surfaced on this planet before, & shall not come here after.
RK pankaj
I am honored to have met him.
I put his harmonium in my car trunk carefully and drove him to his concert.
He was a very well know ghazal singer but it was not his main profession. He was a millionaire business man. Great singer
You are blessed to have met this Angel of Ghazal Gayak. Tell something more about him.
Great indeed.
He was from a prominent Kathiawari Memon business family, was a contemporary of Mukesh and studied in same college in Bombay now Mumbai.

Habib wali Mohd.,He is well known, not lesser known. He is a Ghazal maestro, and is simply superb. This is one of his great renditions and i for one..salute him and his art.
can any one please identify the 'raaga' on which this rendition is based?
Sounds like raag 'Darbaari' to me
He has got a very soulful n wonderful voice.i was 14 to 15 yrs when i heard him on cassettes that was a super time of life enjoying on little recorder n satisfied.love all these ghazals
who says he is a less known singer ,he was a very famous singer ,but not a professional singer ,
ya masail e tasuf ya tera byan ghalib tujhay hum wali samjhtay jo na bad khawar hot. wah kamal kur dya Habib Wali Muhammad nain
'Yeh na thi hamari qismat' and 'lagta nahin hai dil mera' in my view are Habib Wali Mohammed's most memorable ghazals that I keep hearing again and again without ever losing myself in the beauty of his voice Ghalib;s/Zafar's words and the soulful composition. Hats off, Habib saheb !
God gifted voice. Reminds me my happy childhood. Allah bahesht nasib Kare unko.
Beautiful, effortless singing, God gifted voice
This person always sings from the core of his heart !
Truly he takes us to another realm....May he stay blessed and come back...
When I was too young and listened this ghazal for the first time, I wondered why my father likes this ghazal......now I listen this ghazal in Habib sahabs voice several times a month.....
کیا بات ہے ،،،دھائیوں پہلے علم ہی نہ تھا کس کو سن رہے ہیں اور اب سنا تو جانا کس کو کھو دیا
واہ کیا شاعری اور موسیقی واہ واہ
Ghalib would have cried while listening to it. The way it's sung literally translates the way Ghalib felt when wrote this Ghazal.
soft and heart touching voice.
Wah Faran, you are absolutely right 👍
I Agree.
He is amazing, did you listen to Chitra singh?
Totally disagree! Sur nhe hy jo deeply felt ho! Mehdi Hasan sahab acha ga skty thy....oar lata mangheshkr bhe, slow tarz me with classical touch!

The nasal sound of Habib Wali Muhammad simply beats every branded Bollywood singer in his masterly rendition of MirzaGhalib 's famous ghazal ! Hats off to him !!
rajinder balhara brother well said
rajinder balhara , your reach regarding rendition of excellent ghazals by Bollywood’s singer is poor.
Habib is unique in his way but cannot compare with Manna De and Rafi sahab.
rajinder balhara saab by praising someone, you don’t need to downsize other singers. They did their best as well. I like him very much and listen him quite often. Cheers
Great voice. Reminds of the great K L Saigol.
I used to listen to him when in class 10 . Being pushtoon, I had but a little understanding of the poetical aspects of the lyrics . Nonetheless, his melodious voice had a mystical effect on me which I carried all my life off n on .
Professor BUKhattak
great ghazal of Ghalib and great singing by Habib Wali Muhammad Saheb.
Had a pleasure of listening to him after I picked him from his house to his concert in my car with his son.
I listened to him in my childhood but didn’t know I would have that honor. Great singer. May his soul rests in peace.
Fabulous, what a voice. Habib Wali Mohd is the Tansen of ghazals
Very VERY beautiful poetry and voice. Very heart touching music and son.
I am on repeat to this beautiful ghazal
Dil ko chhu gaya,

ma SALAM anwari
one of the best song of Habib wali Mohd
مقدور ہو تو خاک سے پوچھوں اے لئم
تو نے وہ گنجہاۓ گراں مایہ کیاکیے
Incredible, incomparable; it's killing composition of Mirza Sahab and even more killing is voice given by Habib Wali Sahab....! It brings out tears so helplessly, such is the magic of his voice....!!! It's effect is the same no matter how many times you listen to it, simply amazing..!
Thanks to Tauseef Sahab..!!!
I love this rendition. He sang with passion and pathos. Brought Ghalib alive. It has another stunning sher: Ye kahan ki dosti hi ke bane hin dost naseh: Koi charasaaz hota, koi gham guzar hota!
In 70s he had come to Hyderabad India jubilee hall for some function, after midnight he was in real mood to sing, but the politicians who were not interested in gazals said to wind up the function. He did not like it but kept quiet. I was a kid at that time. But i still remember vividly. Even then I know he was exceptionally good singer. Listening to him in person was such a treat.
It touches my soul, the poetry, the tune, the voice and the rendition.
No doubt greatest poet of all times.
Habib wali Ahemad sahib has beautifully done justice to this kalam. 🎩 off to him.
Dil se gaya hai Rooh ko chhu gaya. kya soz hai.

God bless his soul. Habib wali Muhammad was a great singer.
Absolute and greatest ever masterpiece of singing by HMW Sahib. I love the lyric very much.
Sung so well in his resonating and reverberating voice! I first heard his original version of the ghazal "aaj jaane kee zid naa karo" and then looked for more from him.
Ashok Ambastha Sir he is a legend here in Pakistan.
aj jane ki jid na karo is composed by raga Yamaan.....is it also composed by Yamaan ???
noor jahan old songs
Ashok Ambastha this singer is legend & proud of Pakistan
Best gazal by galib
Hypnotizing melody .
Some people may consider this a Ghazal, but I think of this as Na'at, as it is clear from the opening Lyrics, 'It was not my destiny to see my beloved in Life, If I lived any longer, I would have had to wait even more to meet him'!
Great ghazal great singer
BAHUT KHOOB.

Beautiful translation made me understand the gazal
Wow kia adayegi hai aik aik lafz clear and perfect
Darkness of mortality takes away bone & flesh, no doubt. But Habib Wali Mohammad had a Divine gift of immortal voice, which will ever be echoing around the World. Recent past also deprived us of another great voice i.e Jagjit Singh. Both the great, knew poetry and recitation very well. They will never depart from my heart, ever.
May their souls rest in peace.
ِدل کے آسماں سے چمکتے ستارے
اشک بن کر ٹپکتے ہیں تیرے لئے
Sadaa-e-Khudaa indeed.
This voice transports to the seventh Sky and one feels to be in communication with SDAAYE KHUDAA
Waaaahhhh! A chapter in singing! Hard to imagine if it can ever be bettered. Simply intoxicating; you want to go on listening to it....

Zaburdast poetry Ghalib Great
OMG! Simply amazing! Even in this day, Dr. Habib mesmerizes! Though, I have no problem, but I wish he had stayed back in Bombay - we might have been lucky to hear more of him.
I just wish, culturally Pakistan and India would have a lot more exchange of Urdu poetry and music.
Bahut khoob
Ustaadd.
Apki awaj dil me utarti h
God should not take away such persons from Earth.RIP!!
But one day everyone has to leave this world. This is universal truth
God needs also such a great person.
Absolute masterpiece. Poetry as well as the singing. He did justice to Ghalib's words.
i still remember listening to great Habib singing on pakistan tv,,,
Tauseef ji thanks,it is a very good upload.
RIP.., great singer
May his soul rest in peace,Habeeb wali sahebs unique voice introduced me to the legend mirza ghalib
All great singers of the sub-continent take pride in singing Ghalib. Here is one of his masterpiece ghazls, sung by a lesser known singer Habib Wali Mohd. But in my opinion he sung it better than most of the other singers. It is my all time favorite since college days. Thanks for uploading.
lesser known! i respectfully disagree :-)
imranzaidi6
imranzaidi6 i agree
Exellent voice. Lisioning since my teen age..great singer....of Pakistan...but not commercial...
He wasn't lesser known, any person who had interests in ghazals, classical knew him for long long time. I heard him in my teen years decades back. He was on PTV in 70s and 80s and radio long before, even he was played in Indian radios as well long before TV.
Habib wali and Talat mehmood...both had similar, classy, fine n decent personalities that also was reflected in their singing.
very well sung.
Habib sahib , a successful businessman of pakistan belonged to Rangoon ,Myanmar. He loved singing
