I really hope one of these songs I write during college makes people go nuts like never meant. That must be an amazing feeling for Mike. It gets people into the vast Owen discography which is awesome.
I love this version in particular cause version has an extra emphasis on the feeling of loss cause it's not only is it missing the other instruments it's missing the other half of the guitar lead.
The Japanese arent into that. Went to Fuji rock festival to see AF, and I gotta say it was one of the most quiet crowds I had ever been apart of. It was boarderline awkward when barely anyone would cheer after a song.
Euphonium Records I wouldn’t really consider crowds cheering after a song to be considered rude, (if anything I’d find it rude to the band if we didn’t cheer for a song, much like what happened at Fuji rock fest.) but to each their own, I guess.
I honestly have a hard time listening to this song. I only listen to it when I'm in the mood to torture myself, which I guess is tonight. It just touches too close to home. I'm not even normally like that about songs either.
No offense to AF fans but the Owen version on the split EP (what Mike plays live here) takes the cake. I love how it's shunned and booed to request it live with him. Mike's music is so much more that what he did with AF.
I love Owen, but American Football will always give me that "high school" feel and keep me younger than I really am. Mike's music definitely matured with Owen.
+Michael Thomas I agree with you. Owen was created because he was able to take full creative control. The original version is great, but I feel the version on the EP emulates this certain sense of emotion that only Mike was able to capture. Especially at the end of the song while using the sustain/harmonic pick ups. Just pure beauty in his version.
+Michael Thomas No offense taken, i love them both, but i prefer AF's version because of the lovely Steve Lamos's drums. I agree, that Mike's talent goes beyond his AF work, and i usually enjoy more his owen stuff.
This was just before he learned how to sing with his older voice. He had a period where he struggled with it but with his most recentl albums he's really gotten on board with it. His voice can't hit the same notes it used to is all
His music always makes me have this weird feeling of loss. Feel like I am missing out on something...idk..Love his music.
Shit, that's insanely accurate.
@@elloraband8122 thats cause the american football first album is all about loss, primarily loss of love
cant explain, but i completely relate
this is so true. it makes me feel this emptiness in the pit of my stomach and this burning in my chest
That guitar is absolutely gorgeous looking. Tone sounds great too.
It sure is!
Saw Tigers Jaw and some great Japanese opening acts at this venue early last month. The sound is absolutely immaculate.
What kind is it?

No offence, but the AF version takes the cake. That AF album is almost perfect. I love Owen, too.
Even if I like Mike solo project, he never did an album with Owen that is as good as the AF album
Whether it's the AF or Owen version doesn't matter - this song gets me right in the feels every single time.
Yes. So much yes.
Beautifully done
Love this so much
Love Owen

does mike ever play summer ends live?
liam I think so my dude, polyvinyl uploaded a clip of somethin
Can we get an actual track like this? This is amazing
He does an acoustic version on the "Owen / The Rutabega" split EP, and it's beautiful. There's also a lofi instrumental version on LP1 deluxe.
@@aaronhughes113 thank youuu! I had no idea about those! They are awesome!
someone please rip the TABs on this video please :)
+Quietlydude Fullsoftwares they are on ultimate guitar
Alec McGrory can u give me link?
+Alec “TheAlec” McGrory this tab are different on this video that he play.
you can find the other tabs on the sight if you type never meant
search "owen never meant tab" they have the version when he did an acoustic version on a split and id say its similar to this.
he’s faking his voice almost. sounds like he’s imitating himself, I think the confusing crowd kinda threw him off

@@max7579 u mean like he try to make his voice “younger” version of himself?
Tuning and tabs please?
Oh great advice i think i would have done that if i knew the tuning. Fucking half a brain

What a shitty comment.
its a shitty comment because if you type in "owen never meant tab" on google youll find a decently accurate tab that has been around for like 5 years.
@charityhoax hey do you got the tabs?
