Its not about who can and can not fly. Its about qualifications. There is a pilot shortage right now so why would American Airlines say they were going to have 50% women and POCs as their pilots? How are they going to get them without lowering their standards if they couldn't get them already?

It doesn't matter if it's white privilege, sexism, racism, etc. You get worse results. The reason is because you're artificially reducing your available selection pool. So, if a company has a DEI program, they are in essence hiring less qualified individuals to fulfill roles. The same way that hiring whites only in the 1920's led them to getting less qualified individuals then they may have.

As someone working my way through the pilot requirements I don’t think the required hours and the FAA medical requirements care about my skin tone. He picked the worst field to pick on. 😂
Obviously it’s never been a problem cause they didnt openly hire based on race as they are now. So before we knew most likely the best person got the job. 85% of licensed pilots are white because it’s clearly not a career minorities go after not that they choose white people over minorities. And like 93% are male cause clearly women aren’t as interested. And for a company to say they’re going to force themselves to hire 50% people of color and women rather than best performing candidates it should be a thought everyone has getting on a plane if their pilot is someone who was hired because they did better than everyone in their interviews and tests or because the company needs to reach their DEI hiring goals. A pilot is much different than a diversity hire in TV shows or board rooms cause it’s literally our lives in their hands. Maybe if the company incentivized minorities and women to pursue getting their license and then still hired based on merit that would make more sense. Had a medical drama back in the day titled, "City of Angels.". Blair Underwood was the main character. He was chief surgeon. Blair's character was stopped by a bigoted, white cop, because he was driving an expensive car. The racist cop "wondered" how Blair's character could afford such a car. He treated him terrible, and roughed him up. Never apologizing for his racist treatment, after he found out who Blair's character was. As karma would have it, the bigoted cop got shot, and the surgeon operated on him, to save his life. He pulled the racist cop through. And Blair's character, told him about himself, afterwards. The cop was thoroughly humbled. This was such a great show. They cancelled it after one season. Oh, well.
