I flew an Extra 300 in Honolulu. Amazing aircraft. I was delighted with the light stick pressures similar to a Pitts Special. Of course, it has an incredible roll rate. The front seat is as blind as can be though. You see nothing but Wing when you look down unless you're knife edge or inverted. Easy to land and take off although fast on approach.
Thanks Bryan! I have quite the newfound respect for folks like you. Come to find out, this video stuff takes a disproportionate amount of time to complete. I think I spent more than 12 minutes making this 12 minute video. Now that I finished it, I actually have plans on talking to my family today. Hope they remember me.
@@mattmurph yeah it's a second job trying to put out one a week. It's brutal. I do enjoy it more than my chosen profession though. Need to figure out how to flip them.
Wow, watched this video yesterday and had to come back today to watch that cloud surfing part back. This is what I imagine a fighter jet would feel like to fly, except that this one is slightly more attainable than an actual jet. Would love to see more videos with this one!
@@mattmurph good to hear! Maybe one day...if they made a model with bigger weels and flaperons for some light bushflying (only stuff like landing on beaches etc) and a retractable undercarriage I would completely burn the 2ct remaining on my bank account on that. I know, a slightly cursed idea of a plane, but yeah :D Loved that video! There are far to few good videos about cool planes out there, compared to the mass of e.g. car videos.
It's SUCH a cool plane. I flew in one of these at Sky Combat Ace out of Henderson Airport in Nevada. We temporarily did 10 g. If I was a little bit richer I would buy one.
Bro I’m 30 years old and work in plumbing. Being this successful seems so far fetched… how do you do it? Did you ever feel like you’d never get where you are? Do I just keep going?
Nice video. 👍🏼😎 Do you know why (as far as I know) the Extra 330 has won most of the aerobatics championships and no Zivko Edge 540? Is it because the Edge is an experimental, and not allowed to compete? How does the Edge 540 compare to the Extra 330 in aerobatics? The Edge should have a higher roll rate and better climb performance, at the Red Bull Air Race the Edge has dominated. 🤔
awesome insight. i love these planes but I doubt I'll ever own one. do you typically use full power on take off? i imagine it must be tough to man handle 300hp on such a light frame
Eventually yes. You roll into half power at the start, make sure you are stabilized and on centerline, then smoothly roll in full power. Tail will come up almost immediately, then just hold a slight pitch up attitude and you'll lift off by about a 1000' of ground roll.
Hey Will! The aspens will tumble a bit after a fast roll. The attitude and moving map will get turned around a bit. However, they come back to their senses typically in less than 10 seconds. For me, not much of an issue since going inverted in IMC is not going to happen, or really.. I would never fly that plane into IMC.
Thank you both for this! I was wondering the same. I too like to stay out of trouble! Fantastic video Matt, I hope to link with you at an aerobatic contest someday.
Yea, I bet haha. I guess I was just curious how much the aerobatics are affected on the LT compared to the SC since it has flat bottom wings and curved wing tips?
lol... True, it is a plane that can get you into trouble. But with some good training, you'll be good. For me, a week at the Patty Wagstaff school in FL was 100% necessary.
So people in aviation haven't heard of the invention of cameras? There's no real reason for not being able to see in front of you since at least the year 2000...

Great. As an LT driver myself - spot on! Nothing better. With enough respect, only your imagination is bigger than what the LT can do.
You have no ide how glad I am to find out you have a youtube channel! This is awesomeness!!

My thoughts exactly... I'll never be a fighter pilot, therefor an Extra is the next best thing!
Great a/c and nice flying! What a beauty! I am ex RAFVR and built C-IAVW an aerobatic biplane in PEI. My brother flies a RV8 in UK. CAVU skies, boss!
I’m ready to ride along now Matt!,, let’s do this woooooowe here we go!!!!!!
wow it was amazing , specially the part you flown over clouds and the music couldn't be any better.well done my friend
What a quality machine, best regards from Costa Rica
!!!! Etc! Your skills are indeed impressive. One short acrobatics demo ride by an Instructor in a Pitts washed me out. :)
You're quite the character, I enjoyed this
Quite literally my dream. Others my dream of a ferrari, my dream has always been an extra 330LT!
It’s a great dream. And they hold their value incredibly well, so it’s stable from an asset point of view. Nothing flies like an Extra.

Thank your for sharing; very much a dream machine!
Lovely Extra ❤it, why don't they have a front camera for landing ?
I would love to see you at the Next Acrobatic Competition because you are looking great Matt
Thanks Bernard! I like watching competitions, but don’t think I’ll get in that ring. My maneuvers aren’t nearly as clean as they look. 😂
@@mattmurph Matt for what I see you are probably better than being in the Beginners competition right now
i flew a Pitts SB2, this plane is big.
It's SUCH a cool plane. I flew in one of these at Sky Combat Ace out of Henderson Airport in Nevada. We temporarily did 10 g. If I was a little bit richer I would buy one.
I've never done 10G.... during training I started to grey out at a sustained 6... It's amazing what the airframe can handle.

i flew this in MSFS 2020, amazing airplane. You are correct, you wear this thing. :) What is the antenna like thing off the left wing?
The one sticking out forward? It's the pitot tube. : )
Awesome Video! Hope to be in the seat of an Extra soon...
You won't regret it : )

If I had my choice between the Super Decathlon Extreme and this Powerful Extra which I would have to come out and get a demo flight with you
You can't compare those two. They're on different planets.

What is the best climb rate? heard the angle is not as steep as the other variants
Around 90kias you can easily see 4000fpm. It's like riding a rocket.

How do the Aspens hold up to acro?
Now do the Maul!

Likewise on my channel. Had a conversation with my IP on the outside loop -3 and + 8 descending turn. (Sustained)..........
Awesome
Nowadays, Extra NG is best!!
How are you getting that close to clouds legally?
With an instrument rating and clearance. ATC can clear you for a block altitude in a given area.
@@mattmurph
Ohhh that’s cool. Could I do the same thing in an RV12? It’s IFR capable but not permitted to fly in IMC
Thank you both for this! I was wondering the same. I too like to stay out of trouble! Fantastic video Matt, I hope to link with you at an aerobatic contest someday.
Can the LT do inverted loops?
Rated to +/- 10 Gs... so it can... the question is can the pilot handle it?
Yea, I bet haha. I guess I was just curious how much the aerobatics are affected on the LT compared to the SC since it has flat bottom wings and curved wing tips?
That Lycoming IO-580 seems like a great engine. It's a shame that it never found wider acceptance in other airplanes.
Que sonho 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
this is exactly the plane that will kill me

too bad the tail wheel doesnt go up and down a couple of feet for runway visibility
1:1 glide isnt correct
