Thanks for checking out the video Alan. Agreed, it definitely is a masterpiece. This was my interpretation of the fill. I’m fairly sure it is correct, but I could also be wrong. Either way, it’s cool though.
Thank you soo much Mike. That fill still freaks me out when I hear it today. Really appreciate your kind words. Thanks again for checking out the video.
iN2Drums it’s called ‘shhh’ off the Gold Experience, 16 bar opening fills over horn type stabs. I think it’d be written as 32nds, so possibly only 8 bars, as it’s a half time groove. I particularly like the phrasing of last few bars.
I hear a swiss triplet at the beginning of the fill into the descending tom doubles on the record. Is this video a simplified version? I'm performing it for a show and would love to throw down this fil properly
Hey Keith, thanks for checking out the video. To my knowledge this isn’t a simplified version It’s just what I heard when I learnt the fill. I don’t believe it to be a Swiss triplet, but rather a combination of flamming the hands and lots over reverb on the recording. I could be totally wrong here, but again, it’s just what I hear when I listen to the track. Again, I tend to slightly flam the hands which add depth to the fill. Hope this helps.
@@TroyGrech_In2Drums I appreciate the response. Working through it with your lesson and trying to give it depth with the flams has been fun. I probably hear the reverb and it's throwing my ear off to the sticking. I'll keep practicing. All the best
Great lesson. Thanks so much for the great breakdown. Curious...when you start playing this at 120bpm you are adding a bass drum to the end of the fill. Was this intentional? Sounds cool with the 2 kicks at the end IMO. ;-)
Nice catch Cory. Yes this was a mistake on my part. I was soo use to playing this fill at tempo, that when I slowed it down I had thought I =t was a floor tom on the end "A" of 4. It is actually supposed to be a bass drum. By the time I realised, the video had already be up for a while, so I just lived with the mistake.
I could be wrong as I did work it out years ago. However I did recently put the song into “Moises” and isolated just the drums and I’m pretty sure it’s correct.
@@TroyGrech_In2Drums There's a podcast that talks about the reissue of Diamonds and Pearls and Bland said he did that song in one shot. Imagine coming up with that fill on the spot?!?
Not sure what you mean by, “it’s gotta be triplets “. I’m playing triplets. Here is a link to a version with the song. instagram.com/p/BzE-vRfgy1x/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
@@350kph what I am hearing is reverb. I do add flams when I don’t have a sound guy to add reverb. Either way, not having flams in the breakdown doesn’t make the fill wrong. But none the less, thanks for your feedback.
the whole song is a masterpiece ..thanks for breaking this down been trying to figure it out for years, I do a version but boy was I wrong lol

Thanks for putting this up - definitely one of my favourites too 👍
Thanks for checking it out Paul.
I have always liked this fill, well done. There is a long drum intro of fills on one of those album tracks too that is a face melter.
Dean I think I know the one you’re talking about. I be sure to go back and check it out.

P.S it also repeats those fills possibly even crazier near the end of the song!
adding to Spotify now! Thanks again mate.

You've got the fill wrong though dude. It's gotta be flam triplets.
