I think that is how she is able to get such a warm tone at high volume. She is playing really strong, forceful strokes, especially with the thumb. It's a sound I really like.
Scharpachs have a surprisingly low action. It's not as high as it looks but compared to electrics it is higher - however - you are also not using steel strings so the action is less of an issue.
