    Beaglebone is nice for embedded projects, but if you just want to host a Linux mini computer you can get hosted ARM board with more power to run a webserver. We use Cubies and have octacore boards coming in the future and those work wonderfully.

    As soon as I have mastered my Raspberry Pi I'm definately getting a BeagleBone Black it seems it has a lot more IO pins. And I like the fact that it uses mini HDMI and Mini SD cards makes it a lot more compact.

    I just went to the beagleboard.org to get the newest image to update my beaglebone black, and I noticed that you can no longer dowload eMMC flashers. It said this: "To turn these images into eMMC flasher images, edit the /boot/uEnv.txt file on the Linux partition on the microSD card and remove the '#' on the line with 'cmdline=init=/opt/scripts/tools/eMMC/init-eMMC-flasher-v3.sh'. Enabling this will cause booting the microSD card to flash the eMMC." I don't know what this is or where to find it. Could you help me?

      OK...Just so you know, I use Ubuntu 15.04 and am a Linux freak...so
      my answer may not suit your computer.
      We uploaded the latest image onto the flash-card, then accessed the flashcard using the Linux Terminal on my laptop using the command
      sudo gedit /media/username/rootfs/boot/uEnv.txt
      the terminal will then ask for the admin password.
      editing using the sudo command allows you to bypass permissions and edit the uEnv.txt (read only) file IN LINUX.
      We tried on a Windows computer and failed miserably at it, but then......
      Sudo rocks!
      Long live Linus Torvalds!

    • @Nick_works

      A BBB is a single board computer. You would need to decide which operating system you want, then flash that image to an SD card and insert it into the BBB. There's a little more to the process, but instructions and walkthroughs can easily be found to cater to what settings and OS you prefer.

    Inspired by watching your videos i have to share a "suggestion" for a future video you should consider. i am test working on some projects now and have a few questions that i am asking myself like "why / what is a pull up resistor, why do i need it, what does it do, what if i didn't have it etc"; not a problem being that i am following adafruit etc and just copying but for my future knowledge i am curious as to know why, and how in the future i know i should even consider grabbing a resistor etc if i read into the DHT11 does it request it etc; another question is can / should i use similar calculations to cable sizing of mains cable to know how to size a DC extension lead of sorts to accommodate voltage drop; say i wanted to run a DHT11/22 up stairs to the attic / basement or run a soil sensor from an enclosure in the shed out to the garden somewhere - how do you calculate the size cabling that should be used.

    The explanation for the differential signaling seemed a bit jumbled; the "noise immunity" and the lower voltage range(and therefor speed) are treated as two separate features, whereas it may be more helpful for the viewer to understand that the lower voltage range is permitted by cancellation of common-mode noise. something something something humbucker guitar pickups, etc.

    Is this like Arduino? Or more powerful?

    • @Tutoelectro1
      @Tutoelectro1 10 років тому +1

      It is not quite the same thing. Arduino is based in a Microcontroller. This uses a Microprocessor just like a SmartPhone. So you can install a complex operative system like linux. In the Arduino you could just install a simple OS. So basically the beagle bone is like a small computer. In fact you could program the Arduino using the beagle bone. So yes, is more powerful but there are things that you couldn't do as well in the beagle as you would do with a microcontroller. I hope that helps.

    • @carlandj
      @carlandj 10 років тому

      It is more powerful than an Arduino. It also uses more power. That's its biggest trade-off, especially for portable projects.
