I don't know if i just don't have enough experience vs Valstrax but i always found the time to hit him out of his recharge to get the knock down is extremely short Like if i wasn't already right on him ready to hit it, it would usually end before i could even get into position to hit him I haven't fought him that many times yet so it might be inexperience
For the first round he usually charges up quite fast but the damage needed to knock him out is less. This makes it really difficult to knock him out of the first charge if you weren't expecting it (or he flies across the map and then charges in which it's impossible to get the knock). A good read would be as long as his wings aren't charged, the chances of him charging will increase significantly. So he might do some attacks uncharged but after that sequence he'll most likely charge up again. He also almost immediately charges up again after you knock him out of a charge. He also has some sort of pity mechanic where if you weren't able to knock him out the first time, the second time will be more likely to knock him out.
It was Insta-Guard. A lance switch skill where you get no knockback, damage when you time the guard perfectly and can follow up with a powerful cross swipe

@@aCeruleanStateMusic I think most of Valstrax's moves don't deal chip damage. Just his laser moves, I guess. I don't even think his charge dash move can deal chip damage if you guard but I'll test it out and reply if it were not the case
@@Ecchan_5x oh yeah i have seen it on kiranico. looks good and the stats are amazing. 320 raw, natural decent purple, 10% affinity and some defense. so good.
