For those who didn’t read the comic, April decided she wanted to go outside by herself when she was four, the week before it had rained the entire week, the river was flooded and moving fast and the community had warmed everyone to keep their kids away. While playing april found a toy boat and decided she would sail it down the river, edger and Farley had fallowed her the entire way, when she went to put the toy in the water april slipped and the branch she was holding snapped, april couldn’t swim and Farley had jumped in grabbing her by the hood of her coat and held her above the water until edger came back with help, John pulled April out and Elizabeth pulled Farley to safety, unfortunately Farley being an old dog tragically died from the shock and strain after knowing april was safe. April took it extremely hard as her and Farley were near inseparable from the time she was born, even as a teenager to adult she still honours his memory
This morning I had to take my 18 Y. O. cat the emergency vet where he died in my arms. I had to watch this. Run free over the Rainbow Bridge, Bandit AKA Lildude. You'll always be in my heart.
lol John in the flower shop was so funny. And then when April said, "look daddy, Farley's playing with it" I teared up. -Sigh- They just don't make cartoons like this anymore.
Watching this episode also reminded me of my beloved dog who passed away in 2009. It still makes me sad to watch this and think of my good friend, but the time to cry about it ends, and I honor and cherish all the good times that were shared. Thank you to all the great animals that share their precious lifetime with us giving us their unconditional love.
I must say, this was one of Teletoon's better shows that I watched growing up. It's kind of ironic because my uncle actually lived on the same road as the women who made the strip. I'll admit that I haven't read the strip itself, but if it's anything like the show, it's pretty good. Also, 1:37-2:11 I'll admit I'm not the kind of person who cries that easily, but damn it, that's such a sad moment. Hell, I looked this up after seeing an online review for this show and I just knew I had to see this.
It's criminal that this program was never on in the United States given how popular "For Better or For Worse", the comic strip, was popular in the US too.
I love how For Better or For Worse is different then most other strips. The characters are born, they age, and die. While most strips have the characters stay the same age. FBOFW also deal with real issues such as death, divorce, abuse etc. The other strips just has silly jokes.
These specials are great, it's a shame they're not on tv more often, if ever. Farley's death was one of the saddest moments in cartoon history. The characters in fbofw were so lifelike, I almost forgot it was just a comic. Great memories.
Farley was the Patterson's dog and Edgar's dad. If you get on the For Better or for Worse website, it has the comic when April nearly drowned Mr. B and Butterscotch were the rabbits that April owned.
I watched for the first time at 15 and my family had dealt with 3 pet dog deaths since then one more of our boys has passed away and we have 2 alive ones a 9 year old sheltie and 7 year old labordoddle. Something like this is no mercy emotionlly but makes you so grateful for them at the same time.
Watching this as an 18 year old who had to get his dog put down is sad as all hell, I didn't even get to say a goodbye to her since I was out of province visiting family. I had the dog for 10 years of my life and she was my best friend, I miss her greatly. R.I.P. Jessy 1996-2006
This is awesome, And ironic. Today is the 4 year anniversary of my dogs death and then i suddenly also think of Farley and this cartoon? *sighs* i really wish there were more episodes of this.....or better yet MORE COMICS!!!
Now I'm reminded of the episode where the son was trying to give his mom a bathing suit to his mom for mother's day, and the dad found it beforehand and said "wtf why are you giving this to your girlfriend you pervert?!". What a strange episode, or maybe my memory is misremembering...
Seeing this episode, reminds me of my dog solstice. I was at a summer camp when he passed, I was 13 and he was a part of my family since 5 years before I was born. My mom told me she was the last one to be with him how he closed his eyes and went to sleep. Just thinking about it makes me cry. I was mad at her for not telling me at first but now I understand why. R.I.P Soul 1990-2008

Sera got loose because April let her out to play with her. It's been three months since I had to put our fifteen YO Bichon Petey to sleep. We held him in our arms as the Dr. ijected the medicine, he gave us one last lick and went to sleep. Then peed in my lap, lol. He rests in a small garden next to our house, and is visited by all the squirrels in the neighborhood. I agree with John, You never believe a heart so big can stop beating.

Awww! What a wonderful tribute to Farley! This episode makes me laugh and cry! It's both funny and moving! Farley is missed.
He sure is. At least he remains with the Pattersons and us in spirit, and also in the physical sense too through Edgar.

As hilarious as it is seeing John argue with the clerk, I can't believe he forgot.
To think, if the comic strip was still going today, April would be 30 by now.
