  • Classic shallow crappie pattern that produces fish on most Minnesota natural lakes. Jason Mitchell joins Dave Genz at late ice where we find crappie running the edges of shallow pencil reeds at last light. Great opportunity to catch nice crappie. Showcase the effectiveness of the Clam Silkie to add an insect-like, pulsating action to your jig that is deadly for panfish. Great tips and advice on how to catch crappie through the ice.

Fun to see Mr.Gentz still using his cheap blue box! They are enjoyable to remodel and add handy attachments to , for not much money.

I carry a small hatchet . It easily opens up yesterdays holes that have skinned over. Chop like yur opening a tin can, then lift out the "lid".

Love it! looks like so much fun! I live just north of Minnesota, no 'gills here but we have a couple lakes with crappies and pumpkinseed. I may look for pencil reeds next April. Cheers!

I’m fishing shallow ponds similar to this… seems like the bite is very slow… low oxygen levels?

We have seen many shallow lakes and shallow weed patterns shut down on some small lakes in particular this winter because of the amount of snow on the ice. Dying weeds will ruin some shallow bites.
