I find the characterisation of the princes in this show really jarring. Eight, being intelligent, would never let Nine and Ten say such things out in the open, for fear of getting into trouble. In reality Kangxi locked him up twice for 'arrogance' and because he was popular amongst the courtiers. Also Kangxi loved his heir. Yinreng was the son of the empress he loved the most. In his personal writings, he noted he let Yinreng get away with everything. Yinreng was cruel, sexually deviant, and lazy. That's why he got deposed. If he had been like this version, Kangxi would have left him in his position.

I think it is disgraceful that Kangxi at his old age is still doing malarkey with young ladies in their teens. When he dies, all these young ladies will be sent to a nunnery and live their lives in misery until they die. Thank goodness all this bad rubbish has been abolished in China.
