Victor is actually the DPOY for me, simply because he is making - by far - the biggest individual difference on the defensive end of any player. And it's not just his blocks and steals, either, it's the fact that player simply aren't taking shots they otherwise would when he is on the court, he just warps the game with his presence.

This is what real sports journalism looks like. This is straight facts and luckily Wemby has the maturity to see through the short sighted takes by ESPN and company. The idea that they need to rush into trading for win now players is the same exact mistake that the Mavs and the Hawks are still hurting from making years prior. This is his rookie season… The spurs have multiple first round picks both this year and next year 2025. They will have the pieces to build a dynasty around developing players that all fit the same timeline. Getting Wemby was only step 1, and they aren’t skipping any steps.

I couldn't agree more. ESPN's on-air journalism is simply a theatrical circus act that sensationalizes drama and bs narratives. It has single handedly converted the majority of NBA fans into people that can't think for themselves and just love gossip, rather than analyzing the game and reading between the lines (or in this case, stats). Kenny is a breath of fresh air from all of this junk.

Victor Wembanyama love the city of San Antonio and they love him, after we got done with rodeo here he hadn’t played a game here for almost a whole month and he said that he missed the city and loves the energy of this place. I just moved here 3 years ago and the energy since he got here has been insane, I remember when he got drafted people were driving around honking at 3am and waving spurs flags, signs all over the city saying “welcome wembanyama” and I’ve never seen that kind of hospitality before for a kid haha!😂 I’m not a spurs fan by any means (slowly turning, waiting for the sonics to come back) but I love that I’m gonna live here during his era and I don’t think he’s going anywhere for at least a decade, we about to secure another top 5 pick and Greg about to make some great moves.

The Luka Doncic dilemma is a real thing. The New Orleans pelicans went through the same thing with Anthony Davis by being impatient. You should draft young talent and build a strong foundation as opposed to trying to cash in on things that aren’t promised. The Spurs know this better than anyone else in the league.

but the spurs already have vassell, sochan and another top 5 pick next draft and even a top 7-10 if the Raptors pick conveys, Spurs got the 3 Hawks frps, giving them all that back + another 1-2frps possibly would not hurt the spurs draft assets at all and we already have a plethora of solid young guys around wemby, luka situation is very different from this.

@@kisuhara7844 The Hawks would surely want all their picks back plus one of those young players and at least that Raptor’s pick. @@kisuhara7844sure, if and only if, all their picks are as good as they hope.
The problem with picks are, it all just have uncertain value. Sure it can be predicted (hence why top pick worth more), but the actual available talent you could get is very unpredictable. 1st pick in a random year could be worse than 5th pick in another year, and vice versa (just see what Warriors get with Covid year 1st pick).
In building a team with picks, the more you have the better your odds. There's cant be too much pick. At least thats how OKC did it, and look at them now. The problem is just to train & grow them & give them playing time...but that problem is for later after you already get your players.

There’s two situations you don’t want to go through. The Luka/LeBron Dilemma and the Giannis Dilemma.
The Giannis situation was just luck stumbling on him not thinking he’d actually be a top 75 all time player and landing Khris as a throw-in but missing on every single first round draft pick post Giannis is criminal behavior. Giannis showed immediate improvement in 2016 and they still drafted Thon Makur…

My conclusions are a little different. The Rockets game showed how you beat SA: collapse around Wemby and dare SA to out shoot you. That tells me that the priority is not a guard, but a high scoring wing that the opposition has to come out and guard. Putting aside the mistakes a young team makes, you see a couple of things. First, when SA shoots well as a team, they can beat anyone. When they don’t shoot well, they can’t beat anyone. This team badly needs 1-2 more dependable shooters. SA has guards that are showing promise and my feeling it that Atlanta would just want too much for a trade to make it worthwhile. Even more than improved guard play, SA also needs a better second unit that does not did holes that the first unit has to overcome. In short, there are bigger priorities than guard.

The media wants the Spurs to speedrun the rebuild because that's what the media does. Gotta get that instant gratification. These same media members would be the very ones to call Wemby a bust as soon as he fails to win with a quick-rebuild team not realizing that it just doesn't seem to work most of the time.
Of the top 3 teams in each conference, only Boston didn't do the traditional rebuild. Cavs, Bucks, OKC, Twolves, and Nuggets all followed the typical strategy and are killing it now. It takes time to build championship teams.

    Luka Trap aka LeBron Conundrum.
A rookie so good that it makes the team not bad enough to get top picks but also not enough to immediately get to championship (no body can do it all alone, even in sorry conference like East in 2000s). Practically bind their own team about how to surround them with quality players & create a team.
Good draft? They literally cant. They are too good to get top draft. Hoping to get star or even quality player in 10-20th pick is just asking/depending too much on luck. Not every 10th pick are like Steph and Klay.
Trade asset? Sure they can, but the only good player are the said rookie franchise player. The others has no significant value (thats how they could become so bad to get him in the first place). The only asset is pick, which wont worth much because they are good.
Free agent? Maybe if you're lucky. But most good players always bound by contract by their own team. Even if they want to go, most of them just do sign & trade to at least help their previous team to recover asset (considering they have good/helthy enough relationship & communication with the player).

Yeah Trae is also first in turnovers in the league, and Wemby is 4th. And trae wants the ball and so does Wemby. Trae to Spurs helps Trae not the spurs. Getting into the playoffs and winning it is two different things. Trae is like a 2.5 assists to 1 turnover guy. Haliburton is a 10 assists to 1 turnover guy. Trae not that good @@Jeremy-ot6pb

As a Spurs fan, I think the best option for us is to do both go get Trae Young, but also don’t trade everything. Right now you can say that this is really got four main pieces on the roster for that potential contender roster on the team. With Trey Jones, Devin, Wemby, and Jeremy. Possibly Keldon Johnson as well. Now spurs still need 5 more spots so adding Tre young won’t hurt to have right now and the future as it gives a shooter and playmaker to go with Tre jones. Adding topic or any of the other top 3 players in this draft would fit along.

    • @spursgaming1873
      @spursgaming1873 3 місяці тому +1

It just makes sense to add Trae Young if we also get the Raptors pick because Now we could trade that pic to get Trae Young, including additional assets and having a top 10 pick means, giving up less first round picks for Trae Young. Instead of giving like three first on pics now having a top 10 pic means only giving up two.

I disagree on multiple points and u will probably never see this so whatever but:
The mavs problem is not that they were too good too soon because of luka, it was that they constantly made horrible FO decisions, wether it is letting brunson go or keeping porzingis even after he purposefully didn't try in the clippers series. They made the WCF with brunson and suddenly let him walk, he becomes a all nba player and leads NY to the playoffs.
The Thunder are a very particular case is that they can afford losing because they had 27 picks in the next 10 years , and they are anyways not continuing the tank even tho they still have priceless nets picks and clippers pick, so they are indeed moving to competition (see Hayward trade) just at a slower pace
The spurs s best picks are gonna be the Atlanta and Toronto+ Charlotte one they have..not their own...they can comfortably start winning and still get a top pick from either of 3 later on or trade them and still tank with their new addition.

what you really have to do, is see how good wemby is next year, if it seems like youre going to win too many games to get a good pick, but not enough games to be a top 4 seed (like if it looks like your going to win from 37-45 games)
you sit down wemby after the "ASB" for "knee soreness" or whatever, and make sure taht you only win 20 games and get another good pick.
kenny, its called tanking, and the spurs brass and pop are very familiar

  • @charliegrey90

I do not like it when teams would deliberately tank and do what the 76ers did for a very long time.
Victor is on a time limit... He can be Yao Ming... If sas would tank for 2 more seasons, it might just be too late.

Just because wemby is a great defender doesnt mean you should attach a fkn anchor to his leg on that end before he even gets to prime out on defense. Id rather the spurs buy low on giddey, buy SUPER LOW on poole, or pay for caruso and then probably overpay and keep caruso
