Yeah i got my first spyderco last week. I always thought they were great looking. But you dont realize the build quality and the ergos until you hold one. My advice? Buy one sooner than later. The hype is real!!!
I've owned both, but the M4 Manix2 is the only one I own now. It's the best. The P2 & 3 have that over accentuated spine behind the thumb hole. Looks weird to me. The Manix2 wins sexiest blade, best lock, best ergonomics hands down.
I agree about the plastic lock tabs on the Manix2. I find them less comfortable than they could be. They look less cheap on the grey G10. I just find it takes more effort than I’d like to grip them. Both great knives. I’d love a PM2 but can’t justify it when I have the Manix. They are ‘expensiver’ here in Australia. About $250 Ozzie roubles.
Hope you managed to justify a PM2 since you posted this comment, it's really a very different experience compared to the Manix, the distal taper on the blade just makes it a lightsaber towards the tip and the longer handle gives you all the leverage.
Both knives truly are phenomenal. As great as the PM2 is, I feel that it gets more praise than it should because of the “military” in its name. A connection to subliminal messaging to the consumer. That’s not to take away from the knife since it truly is a quality and high functioning user. In contrast, the Manix 2 gets overlooked because of the PM2 and its cult following. I find that the Manix feels more robust in hand where it gives the user infinite amounts of confidence, where it can handle any task you put it against. I find the blade shape to be more efficient and versatile compared to the PM2
I feel like the manix 2 could possibly fail easier than the pm2 just from there being a spring in its locking mechanism. I love my manix 2 and my pm2 but if they made a manix 2 with a compression lock you know I'd be on it like white on rice.
@Dion St. Michael yeah i love the pm3 as well, if your knife laws do change spyderco makes a slipjoint called the urban, it's made in italy and the fit and finish is amazing as well as the n690c steel they use. Check it out. I love mine for around town edc as it's very non threatening yet extremely functional
@Dion St. Michael I've been stuck on the manix 2 lightweights, they have a sprint run on cutlery shoppe in Orange with s90v steel and its amazing and only 119.00 us so i don't know what it would be in Canada. Good to talk to a fellow knife enthusiast
The pm2 is the only knife that comes perfect out of the box aside from a deep carry clip and matching bit size Anything besides s45vn and cruwear is a collector piece The s45vn is crazy corrosion resistant and keeps an edge till you lose it at work.😅 Im gonna cop a pm2, bodacious and pm2 emwave
I am disappointed... that I've never seen your reviews before. Very nice job! It doesn't hurt that you sound exactly like one of my close friends. Subscribed.
To me the Manix 2 is more ergonomic which is why I prefer it. Although I do love me a good Spyderco compression lock, but if I want that I definitely prefer the PM3 over the PM2 personally.
@@TheBigToe69 I was going to buy manix 2 until I found out about the left hand model, it's thinner in the pocket and lighter than the g10 manix2 and I don't like pinned construction of the lightweight and besides I like the Axis Lock better than the Ball lock. Take care 👍

I have my second spyderco a para 2 and I have cut myself fidgeting with it and my delica. I thought well it’s sharp. I have to say me delica had a nicer more polished edge vs the para which looks more grinded. I can even see slight ridges in the grind where the delica was a very flat smooth very shiny mirror like finish. The Japan factory definitely sharpens better.
Slicey Dicey I got the satin m4 blade in the mail today, what a beauty. I just saw the dlc coating in the thumbnail and thought you had one already. Edit- looking at it again I can tell it's just a reflection on the blade
Brian - BTW why do you keep referring to the Manix 2 lightweight handles as being made of "FRCN"? What's with the "C"? It's just FRN: fiberglass reinforced nylon
Both are excellent but I like the Manix 2 xl even more. Mine is drop shut smooth. But my favorite spydie is the Shaman. Great knife and made even better with an mxg gear deep carry pocket clip. Can't go wrong with any of them though. Looking at the Raffir Noble Chaparral for my next spyderco. Thanks for showing it in other videos, I wouldn't have known about it otherwise.
No. The Manix 2 has the stronger lock. I dont recall exacts....but if Im not mistaken ..Para 2 has like a 900lb rating for the lock and the Manix 2 has a 1300lb rating. Something like that. I own the s30v black g10 Manix2...LOVE IT!
@@gwailotus9154 , if I'm not mistaken....it was on blade hq....comparing all types of locking mechanisms. The ball bearing lock beat the compression lock in each test. I'll see if I can find the videos.
Brian - I don't know man there are things I don't like about both versions of the Manix2. The Manix Lightweight just feels like your literally gripping a Lego knife in hand. And the Manix g10 has stupid freakin jimping everywhere. Jimping just honestly annoys the fuck outta me! I seriously don't understand people that get all excited about jimping. Don't people know friction + moisture = blisters?? BigBrownBear has even stated that on many occasions. Jimping is simply stupid when you actually USE your knife because it literally does shit for grip and doesn't do anything other than create blisters on the users hand. A great example of this is AdvancedKnifeBro's review of the Benchmade Griptilian folder. That's another knife that has a stupid amount of jimping. If you look at knives that are designed specifically for long term hard use such as wood carving knives, of even just classic slip joint pocket knives, you'll notice that NONE of them have any jimping at all. That is because they understood that jimping is worthless and does nothing but hinder the knife in use and cause blisters. It's just not needed. I think the PM2 would be the clear winner when compared to the Manix in the comfort department. However the PM2 has VERY sharp blocky handles. Although I have to admit that it does make the knife aesthetically look better, it would have been nice if Spyderco would have rounded off those handles more to give it a more smooth rounded feel in hand. JMHO Brian. I love your channel though! I just disagree with your assessments due to the fact that you completely glossed over the most important factors when it comes to ergos in a knife. I believe there is definitely such a thing as way too much jimping, and the Manix2 g10 is certainly a prime example of this.
From dishwasher/office worker hands to farmer/construction worker hands Spyderco makes a knife for everyone. I prefer all the jimping i can get, I carry a Manix XL with extra jimping cut in the g10 with a round file.

It's fun to decide which knife to buy. But for OCD knife nuts, IT CAN VERY WELL DRIVE ONE MAD!!!!!😫
word up (almost nuts trying to find perfect bushcraft n perfect EDC here)
Simple solution: buy both
Me being a little ocd as soon as I got my para 2 I was immediately annoyed that the g-10 isn’t even rounded on the edges at all it’s just squared off.
Just buy the manix if you didn't 3 years ago. It's better

@Dion St. Michael it could be the bento box shop exclusive in m390. I had the para3 in that configuration and it was a very nice blue color
Compression lock is the deciding factor for me. Pm2 is my edc.

The older manix 2 with black g10 and S30v has non skeletonized liners. Extra heavy
Really not even that heavy feeling even with the full liners. I imagine the others must be feather feeling
It’s certainly solid.
The g10 s30v sabre ground version is still my daily. Amazing knife and I don't notice the weight anymore.
I actually prefer the weight of the non-skeletonized liner. Just feels better in my hand.
I have both of these knives and I love them both so much.
Just bought the PM 2 and the Manix 2 Xl..Love both,im hooked...Ill def be buying more Spyderco knives..

Manix 2 lightweight and paramilitary 2! CAN'T STOP WON'T STOP
I just got my Caribbean. LOVE IT!!! My first spyderco knife. I want a PM2 in s110v now!
The Caribbean uses the reverse liner lock. Its dimensions are in line with the lightweight version of the mantix 2 LW.
You can have the compression lock with LW version, without scales, like with PM3.
Pm3 is nowhere close in size though. It has a substantially smaller blade than the Pm2 and Manix
Manix 2 all the way......
Because of the rounded end of the handle, I find the manix to be much better in my pocket. Both great knives.
I have and love both but lately manix 2 & xl
Bought the pm2 because of the left hand version 🐱
