Great video. My only issue is that the producers chose to edit out several of JFK's key lines. JFK used humor with great skill in many speeches, including this one. Unfortunately a great humorous line the editors pulled out here was, just as JFK was asking rhetorically, "why climb the highest mountain?" he goes on to ask "why does Rice play Texas?" drawing a burst of laughter from the crowd. It was the perfect thing to say at that moment as Rice's odds of beating Texas on the football field, of course, are quite small. And the economic effect was incredibly positive. Not because the moon turned out to be made of gold. But because every manufacturing technique, material and computer technology was improved to support this fixed objective in a fixed time. If you use plastic, you owe it in part to Apollo.
Also it boost the technology to beyond its limitation. Greatest example is the computer on the moon landing, from auditorium size, use paper as hard disk into the size of today’s PC and 100% electronics.
Similar to how war effort improves technologies greatly. People think its because our lives depends on it then. No, its because there is a fixed target and a collective effort. We can truly, achieve anything we want as long as we work together. And this was just one nation mind you. Now imagine the whole world working together. Ah, those will be the days.
One of the few spots in the internet where nobody sees this as negative. This man and his speech kicked off one of the greatest stories in humanity, when we finally left our planet and reached for the stars. So what? We just launched a bunch of rockets into space (spending hundreds of millions of dollars) and left them up there for a few weeks and then crashed them in the ocean all for a supposed hoax? Why are people so insistent on it being a hoax? Come on man.
This comment is not talking about the moon landing, just like this speech isn’t only applied to the moon landing. This speech is about how hungry mankind is for exploration and knowledge, and how we will never stop in this quest, no matter how many say that the end is not worth the means. His comment is saying that for those who question if it’s really worth all this money, time, and energy to explore the unknown when it would appear we can be perfectly content with what little we know and own, this speech will put an end to that question. The comment in no way references the moon landing hoax.
Whenever I grow depressed by how low this country has sunk, I listen to some of JFK's speeches, and my faith in the great potential of humankind is restored.
Totally agree. From half a world away I feel the same about his words. They instil some faith in the future in that another one of his calibre will come to the rescue. Winston Churchill's speeches are stirring in the same way; the Winston Churchill whose bust was slung out of the Oval Office by obama and also by his poodle that currently occupies it.
This is what humanity is meant to be. JFK captured what is exceptional about your species. You can achieve greatness over and over. Having the will and the courage and the wisdom and the unrelenting effort is all it takes. Find the best that is within you, and then encourage it for a lifetime.
I hope they find that wisdom again I've also been watching them for thousands of years and seeing them progress is a gift. but I hope they don't regress back into a tribal and divided people
One of my favorite presidents of all time. He's not perfect. He's had his failures, but I have never questioned his patriotism, his leadership, his sense of responsibility and loyalty to his country. And the economic effect was incredibly positive. Not because the moon turned out to be made of gold. But because every manufacturing technique, material and computer technology was improved to support this fixed objective in a fixed time. If you use plastic, you owe it in part to Apollo.
I appreciate how you pointed this out, everyone thinks the moon landing was a waste
Some studies showed that if we extracted materials from the moon then we can use those materials to fund operations to other terrestrial planets.
@@bronzejourney5784 Give it a few centuries. I would hope we have globalized by then :)
One of the few spots in the internet where nobody sees this as negative. This man and his speech kicked off one of the greatest stories in humanity, when we finally left our planet and reached for the stars. It’s a shame that we never continued with this pride and commitment, luckily new pioneers are out there following in the footsteps of past explorers. This is the true path of humanity and it is a shame that many don’t see it, or it’s rewards
I really hope my generation gets to see a JFK level president in our lifetime.
Parties need to set up some basic criteria. We can't afford two terrible options every time.
I think it'll happen. It'll just take a while
Same could be said for a lot of countries.
Why does every good man that tries to make a change gets killed?
Honor to John F Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy and Marther Luther King.

politicians today be like "way too expensive to go anywhere. We better give these billions to our rich friends so they can campaign on our behalf for the next election"
“Drop another bomb on Afghanistan”
Most of those so called politicians got their jobs by nepotism. They dont have the work ethic and drive to put our country to greatness.
@@joeyGalileoHotto what? you do know most politicians are elected by the population? And those that arnt, are elected by people who've been elected by the population?
@@fernyhj8278 I agree that we do have a democracy. However, keep in mind that many of the so-called politicians have got their positions due to family ties and their populist rhetoric of how they are going to help the people are overshadowed. Unfortunately, our society is an oligarchy where large corporations push legislation to use government to benefit them and hurt small businesses.
Nobody is giving anything to anybody you fucking loser. Letting people keep the money that they earn isn't giving it to them.

Just Because not because this are easy' but becase this are hard
2:15 - "we shall send to the moon, 240,000 miles away,... a giant rocket more than 300 feet tall,... on an untried mission, to an unknown celestial body, and then return it safely to earth."
Just imagine how ludicrous it must have sound back then. Trully inspirational man. Conquer the impossible.
LBJ is not even listening btw.
It was ludicrous, and then WE DID IT!
We should all aspire to be as great as he.
Minus the affair(s).
We should all aspire to have a BIG vision for our lives.
This is the answer for any nay-saying of space exploration.
Richard Gilks explain? This is your proof of the moon landing?
And by “this comment” or “his comment” I mean Richard Gilk’s comment.

Well spoken, Jeff all cock. Well spoken :')
You depression with the state of sinful humanity in a sin-ridden world is not displaced. Jesus Christ is the answer.
@@BenTrotterNZyou have to talk about your imaginary friend always?
This is what humanity is meant to be. JFK captured what is exceptional about your species. You can achieve greatness over and over. Having the will and the courage and the wisdom and the unrelenting effort is all it takes. Find the best that is within you, and then encourage it for a lifetime.
I hope they find that wisdom again I've also been watching them for thousands of years and seeing them progress is a gift.
but I hope they don't regress back into a tribal and divided people
The last great democrat. We need more of him... and I am a republican
Jon Loken last good policitian in general
Jon Loken he would be a republican today based on his policies.
ummm no I'm pretty sure he would support same sex marriage
Amen brother.
How many republicans today support a 70% top tax rate?
One of my favorite presidents of all time. He's not perfect. He's had his failures, but I have never questioned his patriotism, his leadership, his sense of responsibility and loyalty to his country. This speech makes me emotional every time I hear it. God Bless his soul. May his spirit watch over our nation.
JFK saved US and the free world from WW3. Had Vision and Hope for America. A Great Man and a Great Leader.
True dat.
yeah that's very true; He was a true statesman and he will be forever a true leader. JFK was a man who was so brave. I miss him so much.

@Julia Kennedy lol wtf
I like how he actually acknowledges that such a pace creates new ills as it dispells old, but then explains its inevitability and that change and adaptation is what actually defines us as humans
this speech really is symbolic to goals we set in life and why we should never give up to achieve them
