While true that the Imperial Russian coins are the only official coinage to use pure platinum for circulation, there are others. Platinum was considered almost valueless in the late 17th and most of the 18th centuries, and on up until the mid 19th or so. It was however used by counterfeiters to produce fake silver coins, silver being then considered much more valuable than the "useless" platinum. It was also used by Spain to debase the gold content of gold coins minted later on, again at the time still being considered of lower value than either gold or silver. Now of course any kind of platinum counterfeit coin would be worth many times its value if it were to be made of plain silver. Platinum has only become valuable not for it' rarity, but for its wide variety of uses in industry.
A update on old ussr palladium would be nice as they were here before the Russian ban...again thanks for the information....it was nice too see both old double headed eagle and the moderen ussr obverse the reverse I believe is a ballerina on the palladium a history and value would be nice on the ussr palladium I'm pretty sure it's legal to buy and sell as ( again before the ban on Russian stuff?
I love platinum. It is way better to be used as money than gold because because gold can be faked Platinum has a very specific gravity that can’t be duplicated.
Very informative vid about a widely unknown chapter of numismatic history. Thanks for sharing, Christian ! Greets from GER, U.
