To be honest I agree with you. I will NEVER own an owl again they are NOT house pets and they belong in the wild. Louike is my best friend since I brought her a perch for in the house. BUT I watch her try and fly off all the time when she is tethered and I feel so sorry for her.
I fly her every day outside for one chick and then give her the other one on her own once training has finished. But its not enough some times and she just flies to my back door to go out again.
I truly believe that owls belong in the wild and after owning louike I have learnt that she deserves to be able to hunt properly and be free to fly when she chooses x

Life in the wild is very dicey for barn owls. Some of those even born in the wild are dead within a year or two from starvation or cold. This is not 'just nature' - barn owls are suffering because of unnatural HUMAN invasions destroying potential food sources and nesting spaces. Arguably, breeding them in captivity is fixing that - rehabilitating them via unnatural human intervention, because unnatural human invasion has shifted their niche from sustainable in the wild to better suited to a comfortable life. It's a better life in captivity than 'flying free', starving and freezing...Children often yearn to run away on adventures. Doesn't make it right to let them go off - you know they don't know what they're longing for, and that they wouldn't enjoy the reality of it.

I barely discovered your channel and your videos are just so adorable. But watching this video, there was just something so sad about it. I can also imagine how you feel, realizing this while also having years of bonding with this creature. It is sad. Lookie is a wonderful owl and i hope she grows to live really old. I also wonder why you haven't posted in a while, i hope all is good. You are an inspiring person and you inspired me to become a better person no matter the mistakes i've made in the past

You should raise your own mice to feed your owl because you know were the mice come from and you can kill them more humanely
Also it is hard to say if the wild is better or captivity because people have released wild animals that were captive bred into the wild and they usually come back to humans in some way like the orca that was used to film free Willy was set free in the wild. The orca kept coming back to people he would travel with the boats and really loved the attention but wild animal that have been brought into captivity usually hate it at first but then get used to it but it's hard to say if they really prefer captivity or the wild better. It is very hard to say if an animal is more happier in the wild or captivity really it depends on the way the animal is brought up. Also each animal has it's own personal some might wild animals enjoy captivity while some animals might prefer the wild. It really come to that animals that are born in capacity usual would not enjoy the wild because they are so used to getting food for free and having human attention it could actually get them killed in the wild but of course we aren't owls, orcas etc so we will never really know what the animals prefer so what I think is captivity animals should stay in captivity but wild animals should stay in the wild unless there life is in danger and what I mean is if a bird has a broken wing that can't be fix should be brought in captivity because it won't survive in the wild.
Also respect your opinion and in no way trying to put you down just telling you what I feel about this topic
    P.S lover your videos

If lookie was in the wild she would be dead. Owls rarely last longer than four years in the wild.

I must also point out that due to our terrible weather here it is only possible to fly louike outside maybe 3 times a week at the mo.
So when I do fly her outside she is very lazy and will fly when she is ready.
In the house she is excellent and doesnt mess about. However outside sometimes it can take her 40min to eat one chick. She is on a 50m creonce sometimes shorter if she is taking too long to fly to the glove outside.
She also has a portable perch she can sit on outside with her training perch to fly back and forth from perch to training perch but only if I'm out their.
Me personally dont want louike outside in an aviary I would worry too much. But days when it is raining or cold it really is NOT ideal to fly her outside and I can tell how much she misses being out their. It's such a sad sight to see to watch her trying to fly off and being tethered to her perch in the house.
But sadly she doesnt seem to get on with our standard poodle and nose dives at her claws out and attacking mode bless her. The days when it is raining I make her fly for food in the house and she does have 1-2 hrs free flying around. But it deffo doesnt replace her being outside which she misses so desperately xx

There are vegans that eat GMOs.
What do you think of them?

Vegetarianism and Veganism are your call, as is owning a pet.
Pets are sometimes happy sometimes sad, but if it is their purpose to be a pet (or source of food like cattle and poultry) they live longer better lives than they would in wild. well not poultry but you know.
I honestly am in support of people breeding creatures for meat and companionship (at least on small scale the large scale industrial growth is bit too harsh on animals often).
There are birds you can own as pet that do not consume meat BTW - there are many variants of parrot for example.

@@AlPootis Very fair point, i do agree that crushing amount of humans are terrible, i do not know if it is most or not but it certainly is most of leading industrialists, politicians, clergy (anything with power over others really - thats how movements for betterment of things tend to collapse under weight of horrid corrupt scum taking over).
You see the worst people tend to (at least in part) be rather aggressively pushing themselves and their terrible ideas on as large platform as they can. And people better than that, feeling not inclined to participate in such trash often keep quiet and away (again not all obviously).

It is like owning a parrot. There are more captive blue hyacinths than in the wild. People are actively helping to conserve the species.
Free flying parrots and raptors are happier and healthier (free flying fights off arthritis in birds).

It really pisses me off when people talk about animals "belonging in the wild." Humans are wild animals too, we evolved in the wild. But I don't see anyone stripping naked and running out into the woods because of it. Life amongst nature is "nasty, brutish, and short" no matter what species you are. Owls on average only live a year in the wild. That being said, it does seem cruel that you have to constantly fight an owl's natural instinct to fly free.

Wild animals lose their hunting instincts when bred in captivity or bonded with and taken on by humans. NO domesticated animal is better off in the wild - they starve, freeze, get caught by predators, get wild diseases they don't have immunity for etc. And 'domesticated' is about upbringing, not about species.
