nice vid I installed the VWA12S 6G tnhx to you where do you adjust the default app? example the radio . The radio does not turn on when starting up, it is always on 87.50 when you change the station and it works but not the last one chosen. I placed the rear camera at the front, which does display a mirror image with the automatic parking camera.(when you come out of reverse) If you press f-cam you can adjust this boat logo can be customized 😉 by user, than costum, easy to do
Yes I would still use a screen protector as when the sunlight catches the screen it can be almost blinding. I have done a video showing the installation of screen protector amzn.to/47zc5TI
It’s a good unit for the price ! Does basically everything! Did you install the microphone it came with? I haven’t yet, but the inbuilt one seems to be horrible as no one can hear me (unless there’s a setting or trick)

Your shutdown time is set.....settings, car, extra settings and set to auto sleep. I have mine set to 1 hour so mine only goes to sleep after ignition has been off for 1 Full hour.

@andreastselikis5439 everything I have done on my mk6 can also be done on mk5....the camera will work off the canbus in exactly the same way, you will also get the fuel level reading, which door is open etc 😀
My biggest issue i have had is when it freezes and screen goes black and you have to press the power button for a minute till it resets. Normally it is when I am going from android Auto to the radio and it will lock up. Other then that I am happy with it. Things I miss about factory is the mic. This unit the mic is a let down both the plug in one and the one built in.

@@whatsdavedone104 yes I did it fixed my android auto issue thank you. When on the phone I am told there is a bad echo on the other end with either of the mic. I started getting the going in to sleep mode after the update. I will see if I can get it on video and will let you know.

Just a follow up dave just installed the head unit and im getting a error no usb device found when using the DAB Z app connected with the usb dongle and fakra cable, but when i connect the DAB ariel that comes with the DAB Dongle i get signal.

I've picked up a VWA12 and everything was working fine for a week until the music started to become extremely static. I've noticed it only happens when I receive a notification via messages/Google maps or when I put my car into reverse, the music via Android auto will resume with lower quality and static. Any idea what's going on?
I am having the same issue when running android auto....I think its an issue with android auto rather than the head unit itself. Android auto is doing lots of updates at the moment. I have contacted android auto regarding this issue. I will also be contacting Eonon to see if they have a solution 😉

Hi, I got this unit for my VW CC. After installation everything was working fine. Unfortunately after a couple days when I turned on my car, the steering wheel buttons, AC buttons, vehicle info stopped working on the unit. Do you know what is causing this problem and how can I fix this?
@@whatsdavedone104 it turns out that you were right. My plugs were not sitting properly. They kinda clip in which I didn't realize. I think they should include an instruction document with details so that we don't make small mistakes like this. Hi Dave, new subscriber. I have enjoyed your content. Please keep it up! I have after seeing your reviews installed am the 6g version into my 09 Fabia. Everything works as expected apart from the rear parking sensors. When selecting reverse I get the typical screen with the grid lines and the yellow triangle as I don’t use a camera. I was hoping and have seen on your videos that a parking distance screen would appear in the unit like it does with the door ajar warning to show the distances when reversing. The car did this with the standard factory head unit and would display in there. Do you think a canbus update could work or know how this can be achieved? I have for now disabled the reverse option so I don’t get the camera default screen. Thank you.

Yeah I have just done the can update using your linked file. Unfortunately I can’t get the reverse sensor display to display. I have selected the reverse option in the canbus settings but this then just puts the heading to trying to display a reverse camera image. I still get the reverse beeps from the car. I just would have liked the little overlay showing the distance like the door ajar one.
I will look into this....should be an icon on left of reverse screen you can hide the icon...not with car at moment but should be a little arrow I believe 🤞
Ok, so I have a question. This thing is great, except I'm confused on how to get my subs wired up. With my stock head unit, I just plugged the RCA into the back of an adapter I had to hook into the housing for the unit. Now, this head unit had a bunch of audio ins and outs, and had a specific subwoofer plug. Do I get a splitter to plug into that sub plug, or do I just use the old plugs I have wired into my harness from before?

VWA12S6G is compatible with both Apple and Android, fully wireless carplay, fully wireless Android auto. The main software it runs on is Android so you can install app from the playstore. No headunit runs Apple apps unless you use carplay
hi i have a question i put a screen on my car when i turn it off and take the key the screen goes off when i do it comes on and it has the home screen that means it's just in sleep and will it drain my battery? has to restart it Android?
Your sleep mode is probably set to 1 hour, meaning it will not turn off fully for 1 hour. I would rather the max was 24 hours like on the Q53pro....settings, Car, extra settings, shut down delay.
Well done video. I just picked uo one of these myself. Curious if you know how to turn off the the speed dependent volume or whatever it’s called as I couldnt find it anywhere. My older android HU had that option.

@Gunzla33 Q53pro has the same wire harnesses yes, but if you are replacing a Q53pro with a VWA12S6g the installation is easy to remove it all as the tiny plugs can be a bit tricky to unplug with the unit dangling out the dash 😉
My steering wheel functions worked for a while after install but now only the sound up and down works on the steering wheel. When I use the arrow to the right or left to skip the song or start a song over it pauses my music... any ideas?
How is your radio wired so when you turn the key it turns on instantly without the logos? Mine is wired to the key so when I turn off the car it shuts off the radio but when I turn on the car the radio has a full boot sequence showing me the Android 12 and Eonon logos. Does your radio shut off with the car?
I have my sleep time set to 1 hour, the Q53pro could be set to 24 hours, but VWA12S max sleep is 1 hour. Settings, Car, extra settings. Shutdown delay when ACC OFF

@NoxiiousGaming the unit can not be turned on when car is off, you would have to run a permanent live for it to be on with engine off....this could lead to battery drain issues
@@whatsdavedone104 Yeah, that is what happened with my previous off brand Chinese Android unit. Every morning my battery was dead. So I wired it to my key so it turns on and off with the car. Hopefully your solution works, if not maybe there is another wiring solution I'm missing.
Has anyone suffered with poor microphone quality, every time I’m on a phone call everyone complains almost sounds as if I’m in a wind tunnel (using the built in microphone not the external as garage said the mic included aren’t any better then unit)
Sorry dave have another question for you regarding my new vwa12s the bottom of my screen isn't very sensitive when on the dab app you have to press it really hard and when your in android auto it doesn't work at all. Is this a fault or is there a setting a could mess about with. Had a look but couldn't find anything?
@whatsdavedone104 no those buttons work. I mean the bottom right of the screen. On android auto you got the dots to take you back to the app screen, you can't use that makes using android auto hard to use.

The VWA12S has 4g of ram and 64g of memory....you wouldn't delete chrome off you phone to make it run quicker. Even on my older Q53pro 3g+32g speed wasn't a problem

I've noticed it only happens when I receive a notification via messages/Google maps or when I put my car into reverse, the music via Android auto will resume with lower quality and static. Any idea what's going on?
I am having the same issue when running android auto....I think its an issue with android auto rather than the head unit itself.
Android auto is doing lots of updates at the moment.
I have contacted android auto regarding this issue. I will also be contacting Eonon to see if they have a solution 😉
@@whatsdavedone104 I thought I was going crazy! I'm considering downgrading AA to an earlier version to see if that helps. If you hear anything back please give me a shout. I've also contacted Eonon so I am just awaiting their reply.
@PeterPham3 I tried rolling back AA but as soon as I tried to connect it asked to update AA 😒
Hi, I got this unit for my VW CC. After installation everything was working fine. Unfortunately after a couple days when I turned on my car, the steering wheel buttons, AC buttons, vehicle info stopped working on the unit. Do you know what is causing this problem and how can I fix this?
Sounds like a plug has come loose, mfsw, AC and car info all work via the canbus box. Check all your plugs are sitting securely

@@whatsdavedone104 it turns out that you were right. My plugs were not sitting properly. They kinda clip in which I didn't realize. I think they should include an instruction document with details so that we don't make small mistakes like this. Hi Dave sorry I know this in not a video on the q53 pro but do u know how to turn off the heated seat notification on the display as it keeps coming up every few minutes, this is a bit weird as I don’t even have heated seats 😂. Keep up the good work btw 👍🏻

Hi Dave, new subscriber. I have enjoyed your content. Please keep it up! I have after seeing your reviews installed am the 6g version into my 09 Fabia. Everything works as expected apart from the rear parking sensors. When selecting reverse I get the typical screen with the grid lines and the yellow triangle as I don’t use a camera. I was hoping and have seen on your videos that a parking distance screen would appear in the unit like it does with the door ajar warning to show the distances when reversing. The car did this with the standard factory head unit and would display in there. Do you think a canbus update could work or know how this can be achieved? I have for now disabled the reverse option so I don’t get the camera default screen. Thank you.
There is an option within canbus settings to turn on rear parking sensors...if i remember correctly they are switched off from factory.

Yeah I have just done the can update using your linked file. Unfortunately I can’t get the reverse sensor display to display. I have selected the reverse option in the canbus settings but this then just puts the heading to trying to display a reverse camera image. I still get the reverse beeps from the car. I just would have liked the little overlay showing the distance like the door ajar one.
I will look into this....should be an icon on left of reverse screen you can hide the icon...not with car at moment but should be a little arrow I believe 🤞
Ok, so I have a question. This thing is great, except I'm confused on how to get my subs wired up. With my stock head unit, I just plugged the RCA into the back of an adapter I had to hook into the housing for the unit. Now, this head unit had a bunch of audio ins and outs, and had a specific subwoofer plug. Do I get a splitter to plug into that sub plug, or do I just use the old plugs I have wired into my harness from before?
I don't have sub/amp but I believe you just plug it straight in, no adapters needed 🤷♂️
@whatsdavedone104 thanks fella, I ended up figuring it all out. Had to run them parallel to one channel. I was over thinking it all lol it really was just plug and play. Figured out my back up camera situation too. Need a decoder for my model
Any issues with it draining the battery?
Zero issues with battery drain, these units work correctly with the cars canbus, unlike cheaper units
Auto sleep keeps in sleep mode so no boot up. Not brave enough to see how it will drain my battery yet so have it set to off after 30 seconds.
The max you can set it to is 1 hour, mine is set to 1 hour.
The Q53pro you could set it to 24 hours and never had an issues.
Is it more for android users rather than apple ???
VWA12S6G is compatible with both Apple and Android, fully wireless carplay, fully wireless Android auto.
The main software it runs on is Android so you can install app from the playstore. No headunit runs Apple apps unless you use carplay

hi i have a question i put a screen on my car when i turn it off and take the key the screen goes off when i do it comes on and it has the home screen that means it's just in sleep and will it drain my battery? has to restart it Android?
Your sleep mode is probably set to 1 hour, meaning it will not turn off fully for 1 hour. I would rather the max was 24 hours like on the Q53pro....settings, Car, extra settings, shut down delay.

Well done video. I just picked uo one of these myself. Curious if you know how to turn off the the speed dependent volume or whatever it’s called as I couldnt find it anywhere. My older android HU had that option.
Wasn't aware of the speed dependent feature....I know my Q53pro had the feature but I thought they had dropped it on the VWA12S 🤔

@Gunzla33 Q53pro has the same wire harnesses yes, but if you are replacing a Q53pro with a VWA12S6g the installation is easy to remove it all as the tiny plugs can be a bit tricky to unplug with the unit dangling out the dash 😉

My steering wheel functions worked for a while after install but now only the sound up and down works on the steering wheel. When I use the arrow to the right or left to skip the song or start a song over it pauses my music... any ideas?
I think that's probably more of a steering wheel issue....don't think it has anything to do with the unit. Sorry can't be of more help on that
How is your radio wired so when you turn the key it turns on instantly without the logos? Mine is wired to the key so when I turn off the car it shuts off the radio but when I turn on the car the radio has a full boot sequence showing me the Android 12 and Eonon logos. Does your radio shut off with the car?
I have my sleep time set to 1 hour, the Q53pro could be set to 24 hours, but VWA12S max sleep is 1 hour.

Can you turn on your radio when your car is off?
@NoxiiousGaming the unit can not be turned on when car is off, you would have to run a permanent live for it to be on with engine off....this could lead to battery drain issues
@@whatsdavedone104 Yeah, that is what happened with my previous off brand Chinese Android unit. Every morning my battery was dead. So I wired it to my key so it turns on and off with the car. Hopefully your solution works, if not maybe there is another wiring solution I'm missing.

Has anyone suffered with poor microphone quality, every time I’m on a phone call everyone complains almost sounds as if I’m in a wind tunnel (using the built in microphone not the external as garage said the mic included aren’t any better then unit)
Sorry dave have another question for you regarding my new vwa12s the bottom of my screen isn't very sensitive when on the dab app you have to press it really hard and when your in android auto it doesn't work at all. Is this a fault or is there a setting a could mess about with. Had a look but couldn't find anything?
Not an issue I have come across....you mean the volume controls etc? I have mfsw so don't use the screens volume buttons 🤷♂️
@whatsdavedone104 no those buttons work. I mean the bottom right of the screen. On android auto you got the dots to take you back to the app screen, you can't use that makes using android auto hard to use.

You need to go to the settings of dab-z app and select auto start when usb is detected

The VWA12S has 4g of ram and 64g of memory....you wouldn't delete chrome off you phone to make it run quicker. Even on my older Q53pro 3g+32g speed wasn't a problem

Scroll the notification bar down on the phone and see if the media output is to the radio or not
