The concept of "nafs" in Islamic spirituality, particularly within Sufism, refers to the self or ego. There are four primary categories or stages of nafs that represent the journey of the self towards spiritual purification and closeness to God:
1. **Nafs al-Ammarah (Commanding Self)**: This is the base and unrefined state of the nafs, which inclines evil and desires without restraint.
2. **Nafs al-Lawwamah (Self-Accusing Self)**: At this stage, the nafs becomes aware of its shortcomings and begins to feel guilt and self-reproach for its misdeeds.
3. **Nafs al-Mulhimah (Inspired Self)**: This is the stage where the nafs starts receiving divine inspiration and guidance, leading towards better deeds and spiritual growth.
4. **Nafs al-Mutma'innah (Peaceful Self)**: The highest stage of the nafs, characterized by tranquility and contentment, achieved through complete submission to God's will.
These stages reflect the spiritual journey of an individual seeking to purify their soul and attain a closer relationship with the Divine.

نفس ایک بچے کی طرح ہے جس طرح بچا ضد کرتا ہے کہ مجھے یہ چیز چاہیے مجھے وہ چیز چاہیے جو چیزے بچے کے خلاف ہوتا ہے وہ ضد کرتا ہے کہ مجھے چاہیے کسی بھی حالت میں اسی طرح نفس بھی ضد کرتا ہے نفس وہ چیزے مانگتا ہے جو اس کے خلاف ہوتا ہے مثلا حسد بغض کینہ غصہ شہوت تکبر ریاکاری دل دکھانا غیبت چغل خوری بدنیتی .....اللہ تعالیٰ نے انسان کو فریشتے اور جانور کے درمیان پیدا کیا ہے مطلب اللہ نے جب فریشتوں کو پیدا کیا تو اُن میں عقل رکھی اور جانوروں میں شہوت اور انسان میں یہ دونوں چیزے رکھی عقل بھی اور شہوت بھی اب اگر انسان پر عقل غالب ہے تو فرشتے سے افضل اور اگر شہوت غالب ہے تو جانور سے بدتر دراصل اسی نفس کے جانور کو قربان کرنا ہے اللہ کے سامنے

Tasawuf ek posheeda raaz hai, jo seena ba seena chala aaraha hai, yeh woh hi janta hai jo iss jaal mai band huva, bas baki sab apni apni kahaniya aur daleel bol rahay hai.
