I'm new to all the pride stuff.
Is the point of pride to just show off? or does it serve the ultimate purpose of lbgtq+ gaining social acceptance?
Is it about feeling included in society?
Why do these pride marches exclude families and children?
Parading and dancing in fetish and bondage gear is not inclusive for children and families. Unless you don't mind children being introduced to sexualities fetishes, then I don't see how this will help lbgtq+integrate with general society.
Talk about issues and make people aware of the problems but you can except people to accept fetishes being publicly displayed and also wish for general acceptance.
I say the LGBTQ+community need to address this. It might make family people more accepting
I've been going to the London Pride Parade for years and it's a really fun friendly event. Loads of families show up and the kids always seem like they're having a great time. Plenty of families watching and some marching in the parade. Everyone follows the rules of the parade which are that you should have swimsuit coverage at all times. Basically if you're happy taking your kids to the beach then you should be happy taking them to pride. A lot of the strappy bikins straight people wear on the beach are very similar to the 'fetish gear' you mention in your comment. None of the clothes people wear at Pride are that outrageous (plus the media coverage always features the most over the top outfits so you probably get a distorted picture of what the majority of people are actually wearing - jeans and a t shirt is very common pride attire!). Most fetish wear isn't inherently sexual unless you are turned on by that fetish. Plus lots of the clothes are things kids will have seen before on straight people e.g. a guy in a leather outfit isn't that different from what some straight bikers wear. It's a fun event, I'd definitely recommend ignoring the media portrayal of it and just attending to see for yourself.
